Does school (academics) even mean anything to these kids anymore? Or, when you are playing at this level, are the academics so watered down or “assisted” that school doesn’t matter? I know how hard it was, 30 years ago, to transfer and get credits accepted at a new school, things must have changed dramatically.
I believe its the job of the coaches to get the best players every year. You don't recruit lesser players because you recruited player A the year before. If you followed that mentality you would never improve and only recruit players that are not as good your next year.
Why even recruit high school kids if they will just transfer right out? It's getting to be a bit pointless. You could just have a team full of transfers each year

It will be interesting to see when we have a few years of data what effect transfers (especially multiple) has on graduation rates.
But school means exactly as much to the median revenue sport athlete as it did 10, 20, 30 years ago. Which is to say it's strictly a means to an end of their pursuit of a pro basketball or football career.
Again, when we have a few years of data to draw conclusions from, it might be that recruiting high school kids is a waste of resources. Or maybe it's more subtle than that. Hard to tell amidst all the chaos.

The system, as it is, is a mess. It's great that kids are getting paid for their performance, but that is the only thing that is great about it. Outside of that, is the NIL/portal process REALLY in the best interest of the players? It doesn't encourage developing talent, and most players just transfer at the first sign of adversity. Unless you're getting a true blue chip freshman, there is no reason whatsoever for a top tier program to even fish in those waters. Leave all the green freshmen for the mid-majors, then steal them in a year or two when they are ready to contribute. I don't know what the long term solution is, but I sure hope this isn't it.
At the time he redshirted Buck was not a good perimeter shooter, not a good mid range shooter and not a good finisher at the rim. Also not a high level ball handler/passer nor a good FT shooter. Great on ball defender who could go in for 3 or 4 def possessions and really shake things up. But you still need better players for the other 35 minutes of the game. If he had improved his offense by leaps and bounds this year he wouldn't be recruited over. Best of luck to him he still has 3 yrs to go and I hope it's a fun ride for him.

Recruiting high school kids means creating relationships. Even if they don't choose you the first time, it makes the transfer portal game a bit easier.
I think I was counting Hansberry gone already. Good lord it’s hard to keep up anymore.

Hope we can land Booth, I like the idea of us going after transfers with more than 1 year eligibility. Worked out perfectly with TJ.
Yep and it was special when we had the 04-05 team or even the 01 team because you spent 3-4 years watching the same players every year and when they succeeded it felt really special. This year was nice, I'm happy we got to the elite 8 but it just felt lacking in a way. Didn't have that same personal connection
Exactly...I can see mid-majors benefiting from this a good deal.....you got a 4 or 5* that knows he'll not play much at one of the power 5 schools because of the portal....so why not go to like an Indiana State or Southern Illinois university playing significant minutes and be the alpha for a year or two....increase your value so to speak and then cash in with 6 or 7 figure $$$ your last couple years at one of the blue bloods...In fact I can see 2 or 3 universities collaborating together on this type of a plan...not sure I like this type of scenario but sure seems plausible in todays landscape of CBB
One more transfer out or would the 4th be Jakstys red shirting?
The MVC would basically just become the B1G’s development league.
