Aaron Bradshaw (big man transferring from Kentucky) has a crystal ball from Travis Branh to Ohio State. Between he and Ballo at IU, plus potentially Goldin at Michigan, the bigs in the Big Ten are looking pretty good

Why even scout and recruit high school kids if you’re going to recruit over them? I don’t blame these guys for transferring out personally I think it’s BS to say we wanted you in the beginning and now you’re not good enough so you’re gonna sit on the bench why even get any commits if this is what’s gonna happen?
Coaches working to improve their rosters has been happening forever. Was Giorgi "recruited over" when BU brought in Kofi? The coach's job is to bring in the best talent he can. The player's job is to force the coach to play him. There are more opportunities for the coach to improve his squad than there used to be, and there are more opportunites for athletes to find a situation in which they are more likely to see the court.
College basketball recruiting is a far different game than it was 3 years ago. Scouting and recruiting are a much different game now. We didn't get Kylan two years ago, but thanks to our prep scouting and recruiting, we had a relationship that gave us a chance to get him as an upper classman.
Personally, I am glad we have a coach who can see which way the wind is blowing and change his tack. You can either adapt or lose momentum.

Yes, but we were actually rooting for specific players, too. Its all interchangeable now. I get it. it's the most equitable. But does anyone REALLY want this?
I definitely still root for specific players...on the team. It always boiled down to that last part.

Andrej Stojaković recruitment still open? Or is it still narrowed down to a couple schools out west?

Not really. I’d argue even most folks defending the new system on some notion of fairness to the players (totally valid) are not enjoying it too much as fans. It is what it is, I guess.

However, it is what it is and we should at least be thankful that Illinois Basketball, specifically, is incredibly well-positioned compared to the field in this new universe of Power Two conferences and NIL.

We're cheering for uniform colors now. I understand its the new way it works, but I can't imagine anyone who loves or particaptes in college basketball REALLY loves this arrangement.
Have to agree.. Maybe those that love fantasy ball love this time of year, but as a fan of a school it makes it a much less fan connected sport. I know I started watching a lot less (not zero) NFL once free agency got in full gear. May happen here as well, though my ties to the O&B are stronger than they were to the Bears, Bucs etc.

At the end of the day, having it be universal free agency all the time with no durable connection between players and schools is not to the long term benefit of the players both from an economics perspective (limit supply while keeping demand steady and prices rise), and also because the whole machine depends on the passion of fans whose love for college athletics arises because the player mirror our own relationships with our schools.

What is bad for fan interest is definitionally bad for player compensation. It's all the same money.

Sad day in my opinion. Seemed like Sencire really wanted to stay and I think he would have killed it for us next year. People can talk about his offensive limitations as a freshman, but I thought there's no question he would have had a large role on the team this year as a lock down defensive specialist at worst. And anything on top of that like his practice highlights showing much better body control and ability to finish would cement significant minutes. Just seemed like there really would be a place for him on our roster this year, especially with the transitional roster. And while there are more offensively talented options in the portal, I just don't see Sencire's skillset as being replaceable. I think this'll be a bigger loss than we realize next year.

In any case, I wish Sencire the best of luck and I know he's going to tear it up for whatever team he plays on next year. Hope he helps his team go on a long run next year so I can see him play again on the national stage. Just sad I won't ever get to see him doing it in orange and blue again. Sigh...
Admittedly, I don't know the internal discussion process but it feels like a mistake to let Sencire go out the door so (apparently) easily. If nothing else, his high energy play and shut-down defense would have kept him in most any rotation. I guess we will have to see how the guard position is backfilled but I was really hoping Sencire would be a part of the roster. Heck, he would have helped this past season.

Outside of the name on the jersey, college has little to do with high level college sports anymore. I mean, technically they still have to show up to class and pass tests (some with a lot of “help”) but most of these kids don’t value a scholarship and university degree like they used to. To me, that was fair pay as a student-athlete (*sigh*). It’s specially sad considering so few of them will actually go pro.
I mean c'mon guys.......I refuse to believe some of y'all are this naive. Outside of the super rare cases like Jack Ingram for example....this is literally how it's ALWAYS been for the entire history of college basketball. These guys have always been funneled into lower workload majors like RST or Communications and they have tutors that pretty much do 70% of their work FOR them even then.

Kendall, Nick Anderson, Frankie, BCook, Dee, Deron, Luther, BP3, Rayvonte,Malcolm, Meyers....these dudes most definitely spent more time at KAMS then they ever did in class. I know for a fact during my time there that UI athletics would literally have someone whose entire job was stopping in classrooms and checking if the athletes were in attendance. Half the time the guys would wait until they got marked as present and then bounce anyways.

The illusion of the "amateur-college-athlete" has ALWAYS been just that........an illusion (for the vast ,vast majority of the players).

Side note, I've always been of the opinion that if you can major in Theatre, Music, or Dance....you should be able to major in Basketball/Football or the D1 sport you're playing. You probably would have better job prospects right out of college with the latter as a high level D1 athlete 😅

I think it’s as simple as Chester was Sencires guy here and he’s following him out the door. That kind of stuff happens frequently.

Not too bent out of shape about this.
