Sorry, but this is what I think the portal looks like. As another poster put it, I believe they are killing the Golden Goose. And as much as I love the O&B football and basketball programs, I see a day in the future where I stop following them, because they will be nothing more than minor league professional sports, with athletes that have zero affiliation to the university.

I hate losing guys we’ve grown attached to as recruits but it’s the nature of the beast now. We want to win and as long as Brad has continued to be transparent with all these kids each step of the way it’s positive for everyone involved. There’s a reason we aren’t seeing a lot of ill will from a lot of players that have transferred out.

1. AZ struggling in tourney
2. Bad locker room chemistry - 6 AZ kids in transfer portal
3. Caleb Love - bottomless pit. Never passes the ball back. Shoots every time -think Russell Westbrook as teamate.
4. Jaden Bradley stole a lot of Kylan's minutes last 2 games of NCAA tourney
I think Kylan's commitment statement says a lot without saying it. "Humbled by this experience..." "It is important that I focus on being the person I was raised to be and become the basketball player I am supposed to be."

He was clearly not having a good time in Arizona.

It absolutely sucks.

College basketball is the only sport in the US that has been reduced to the entire roster being on 1 year contracts.

MLB, NBA, NHL dont operate like this
College football, baseball technically could but you don’t see the movement like in college basketball

Dare I say the NCAA is killing the Golden Goose. If only Charles OBannom could have gotten paid for being in a video game, and that was it…

NCAA could fix a lot of this if they only allowed non-sit out transfers for players whose coaches leave
Do you mean Ed O'Bannon? If so, fun fact, my cousin was the federal judge who ruled against the NCAA in the O'Bannon vs NCAA case.

Would bringing OA back open the door for Ivisic from Kentucky?
I would think it would help immensly. OA was the European recruiter at Illinois, so this might be his recruit and obviously being the big man coach likely has close ties beyond being a Kentucky ex-coach.

Insiders, or others that have heard anything: 3 guys intriguing to my untrained mind are Cade Tyson, Trey Townsend, and Great Isobar. Any clues on where they are headed, and whether we have any interest?
Tyson is still up in the air, visited Tennessee but new UK staff trying to get in.

Townsend is Michigan vs Michigan State.

Osobour will follow his HC Sprinkle to Washington.

Thiero- fit?
Wagner- Duplicate to Kylan
Ivisic- fit?
Fland- Yes please
Bradshaw- tOSU
Ivisic would be a great fit- 7’2” stretch 5
Thiero is a little more talented Tre White type of player so that would be duplicative right now

If we get OA- him pulling Ivisic and Fland (who would be our starting SG right away- although I don’t know if OA was his lead recruiter) would be amazing)

Lamenting over the the “decline” of academics for student athletes or being concerned for the quality of education, or lack thereof, that transfer portal is inflicting on these players, is completely misplaced and just plain unnecessary, and this is coming from someone who went on to get a PhD from an Ivy League school after graduating from U of I and seriously considered becoming a professor.

These kids are/were getting as valuable an education on the court/in their practice/in the film room/in the locker room as you did in the classrooms, if not more practical. Unless you are training to become an academic, a scientist, a doctor or a professional in only a few select fields, like engineering or accounting, a *strictly* defined college education that some of you want to impose is completely overrated and outdated. Most of us learn on the job and it’s the *ability* to learn that’s the most important thing a higher-education can help train. Being an athlete actually provides more than enough of that opportunity. In fact, I would argue, the kids having to navigate NIL and transfer portal, make them even more resilient learners.

Yes, but we were actually rooting for specific players, too. Its all interchangeable now. I get it. it's the most equitable. But does anyone REALLY want this?

Another thing is, is school pride still a thing. Look at guys like Cook, Sergio, Frankie, Leonard, Tisdale. It's like they had pride to play for Illinois. Does that exist anymore? Or is it all about money. "I can go to this school I have always wanted to go and get paid 450,000 or this school across the country and get 900,000...I'll take the 900,000"
