great news on Booth.

as to a 5, its well known that Raynaud wants a Stanford degree (who could blame him? guy's a math major, academics are important). could he cram in enough credits over the summer to get it done? if we add Cohen, that'd be a big draw. don't like waiting til mid August til he gets here, but this cat, er frog, is good

Where does Morez fit in with Booth and getting another 5? Would he/could he play both the 4 and 5? Dude is a McDAA level player (he got robbed IMO) and really want to see him get minutes so he can adjust to the speed of the game and develop chemistry with our guys, and also so he doesn't get frustrated and decide to portal at the end of Year 1. Really think he could be an all-time great for us if he sticks around.

Hard to tell at this point as they're both young players. Booth likely does have the higher ceiling as a shooter, but he'll have to make his shots to prove it. Amani had a pretty good shot coming out of high school, and he doesn't rely on the three as much as Booth does so it's uncertain as of now. That said, if Booth puts it all together he'll be fantastic. Booth is definitely more athletic of the 2, and looks to be a better rim protector, but underlying stats for both seem solid for both. It'll take a year or two to determine who won this trade, but I could see it going either way- just going to depend on whether Booth can get his 3pt shooting percentage up to that 35% level from the 30% he's currently at.

Uh, I kinda of hesitate to ask this (and maybe it has already been answered already but I missed it), when will Illinois (and we) know about Domask coming back? I know that it is unlikely but does this not affect who and how many players Illinois can recruit?

no clue. but several have stated that if Domask gets a waiver, he could possibly be a non-scholarship player (with a very fat NIL contract)

They arr recruiting as if he is gone, but they should hear back in the next few weeks. With that being said, it is the NCAA, so god only knows when. If they are full on scholies and then hear back, they will make room

I never want to speak bad about one of our players but the whole Sencire Harris transfer portal really irks me. It feels like he used Illinois to better his own game and become a stronger player. He used our athletic training staff to improve himself physically. Then, he turns around and bolts because of a difference in philosophy between Frazier and Underwood? If this was really about play time, then he should've transferred out after last season. It just feels like he used the program for his own gains when his motivations were to possibly bolt. He was a great contributor in practice and I don't want to diminish what he did to help this year's team out behind the scenes but it just feels like he used the program and then ran out of town. Is this really about an assistant coach leaving? Last time I looked, doesn't the head coach matter in this whole thing too? Do you come to a school to play for an assistant coach or do you come for more than that? Sencire has been in this program for two years now so I would hope this goes beyond Chester Frazier. It's frustrating to see the time that someone like Fletch put into this kid to find him leaving town over nonsense

My guess is that Morez gets decent playing time off the bench at the 5 but doesn't start. My guess is that the staff will try to work with him to develop his outside shot over time, but as a freshman something closer to a Dain-like role seems more likely to me.

Along those lines, though - is there any chance Tre White beats out Booth for the starting 4 job next year?

I know of one that is an NBA coach, is in charge of the defense, works with some of the bigs and is a former Illini and probably could be convinced to come if the offer is right!!!!
P.S. Grew up 90 miles away!!!

It was also reported that he was willing to come off his redshirt when TSJ was suspended, and he likely guarded his rear end off on the scout team and made last years team better. He put in his two years, let him walk if he wants. We'll always have the UCLA memories.

That is why there will have to be collective bargaining agreement with players as paid employees. Not sure if it is in players interest to sign one. Right now there is no salary cap, no restrictions on free agency. Unless they are going to put in pension plan or minimum NIL for all players not sure what players have to gain.

It’s not the total number of years of eligibility that causes the chaos, it is the ability of anyone to enter the portal any time as many times as they want

I know he was willing to burn the redshirt but to me, this strikes me as less about play time and more about leaving because your #1 guy in Chester Frazier left. Last I heard, the coach is Brad Underwood. The leader of the men's basketball program is Brad Underwood. When you come to Illinois these days, you're coming to play for Brad Underwood, not Geoff Alexander...not Tim Anderson...not Chester Frazier. If he had a problem with Underwood, that would be a totally different story. If he had a concern about playing time next year, I can understand that. But, it feels like he left when news broke about Chester leaving. That's just plain craziness in my mind. You'd think Underwood and the athletic trainers would've built enough equity with the kid to overcome Frazier's departure. The timing of the move is what has me so annoyed. He puts out that 5.5 minute video of himself like a recruiting mixtape and then leaves a couple days after word of Frazier's departure comes out. He could've left a day or two after the tournament exit like Dainja did and I wouldn't be as questioning of his motives

Indiana may be better but they still cannot shoot. Woodson is old school - does not embrace the 3 pointer and fast break.
Wisconsin is losing Storr. Hepburn is fun but can he do it by themselves. Have not heard any portal noise.

A man as big and strong as Edey can cover up a dozen weaknesses as we saw this season. They come along about once a generation. The 24-25 season will show us how well and how quickly PU can recover.
