I do not expect Hawkins to return ... Domask has applied for a waiver and hired legal counsel ... We will make room if he is granted a waiver and as I have stated many times, we have individuals who will handle his NIL so that Brad and staff can recruit without having to worry about holding back $$ for him ...

I think adding Maddox ... Getting Domask back ... And adding a 5 ...

Expectations would be and should be just as high as they were last year ...
Indy - don't expect hawkins to return....to college bball, or to illinois specifically?

Haven't seen any draft declarations on his part. We expecting a late name added to the transfer portal?

I thought I saw @Indy Illini Fan mention Ryan Kalkbrenner a couple months ago during the season about a possible target for a grad transfer. Could he be the 5 that we are waiting to enter the portal?

That was when Creighton and Greg were at a standstill and Greg was actively shopping for a new job ...

I think Kalkbrenner remains at Creighton ...

Given BU's portal results I think it's ok to ignore most of the top-N rankings and assume he can see how all the pieces will fit together.

Is there something I'm missing about Maddox. We're talking about him like he would be a marquee get.

I get that the rankings boards aren't the most reliable. Maddox is ranked 117 on the on3 website and like 96th on the 247 site.
Depends on what you care about...getting guys with proven results, or bragging about transfer rankings.

Because there is no correlation between the two, got it.

People that make the rankings throw darts at a dart board.

If proven results was the end all be all we could save a ton of NIL by focusing all our efforts on D3 studs.

Remember what they said about Domask last year ...
Two things I notice Domask and Maddox having in common

1. Coaches sons
2. Lightly recruited but were IMMEDIATE starters as true freshmen and have been all four years since.

Their games are quite different, but both are just rock solid functional winning basketball players. It's not a coincidence that Maddox has won three straight conference titles at two different schools.

Maddox would play as many minutes as he could handle on next year's team, because that's how Brad rolls.

(And so yeah, I do just think the rankings are wrong on Maddox. A number of guys above him I wouldn't rather have, notably Skyy Clark, Bronny James, Marcus Hill, Xavier Amos. Maddox should be at least 20 spots higher.)

We need Storr badly. But even with him, this transfer portal puts us in position to recognize honestly that we are rebuilding, not reloading.

I like our chances much better after the visit than I did before ... They were blown away by our facility ... Dad had nothing but fantastic things to say about the visit ... TA really connected with the family ... And Brad made it VERY known how much he was NEEDED here ... Not wanted ...

I also think the fact that Desmond Claude still has not entered the portal changes the Maddox recruitment for Sean and Xavier ... They definitely wanted Claude back but they were planning on him being gone by what they were told post season ...

So then they actively were pursuing 2 starting guards (Maddox and Conwell) because they were planning on having 2 starting spots ... Well, it sounds like Claude may stay now so that leaves 1 starting spot and a lot less NIL than they originally planned on being available because of the NIL Claude commands ...

All of that to say ... I think Xavier only takes 1 guard of Conwell and Maddox .... And I think Conwell winds up being the guy for Xavier ...

Which leaves us in a pretty dang good spot ...
Sorry if this has been addressed, but would we look at someone like Jeremy Roach as an alternative?

Ball handler, good shot, good D...all against high major competition.

Too bad. It would be nice if he decided he wanted to play his last year closer to home so his family could come watch him more.

You gotta ignore the rankings and look at the programs recruiting him. He's clearly going up a level and people are selling him on a big role.

Also a very good point.

Offer lists have always been a better indicator than rankings and in PortalWorld that's arguably truer than ever.

(If we had NIL$ transparency that would be best of all, but alas)

When I say proven results, that's after adjusting for level of competition.

Go look at Cam Spencer's stats prior to transferring, and his transfer rankings. He excelled against B1G opponents and was ranked pretty low. I'd much rather have someone like that than some highly ranked guy with lots of potential who hasn't proven anything yet.
