Is Boogie worth $600k more than Claude ???

I don’t think so … 🤷🏻‍♂️
I think definitely so.

Claude's a super fungible resource, there are a ton of guys like that in the portal.

If guys like DGL and Ty and Tre White take the steps we're hoping for Claude would be a bench player.

I watched him hit 53 in a row last summer with my own eyes … Kid can shoot just fine …
I once saw Rajon Rondo do the same thing. Games are different.

Maddox and Conwell NIL = Claude NIL …

Roughly … Talking maybe 30-50k difference …
Maddox plus Conwell is WAY WAY more valuable than Claude.

I don't want to be too down on Claude, he's a real high major player, but he is not in the tier of some of the other guys being discussed.

With Boswell signed we are not bringing in another high level PG thru portal or from HS. Brad is looking for sweet shooting 2G ideally with some size to replace the 3 point shooting of Quincy, TSJ and Coleman. Luke will help some but does not create his own shot. Boswell is good. Davis is unproven. Booth needs to improve his 3 pt % if he is going to be high volume.

3 pt % 2023-24
Quincy 37.4%
TSJ 36%
Coleman 37%

I sure like the way Cardet attacks the rim. Seems
to be an excellent finisher there. Of course, it's a highlite reel.

Claude is a much better shooter than his numbers show … Played through a major shooting elbow injury this past season … Had a procedure done on it after the season …
Sometimes these issues are tricky and lingering. Hopefully it was a clean, "cut and dry" procedure.

Can't help but wonder if this is why Xavier is stepping away.

I'd take Jones in a heartbeat, but what are our chances? Is he a junior? He reminds me of TSJ in so many ways.

why not both we need a 2 and 3. claude seems like a guy who purely would replace domask. wouldnt make sense to have claude with domask.
Even moreso than TSJ you don't like-for-like replace Domask, who is a super oddball and unique player.

We're going to have a real point guard next year, and probably a traditional big (a MORE traditional big at the very least). The way we play is going to look quite different, even under the same basic principles.

I mean the kid looks good but were loosing two first team all big ten players, those are some pretty big shoes to fill. I don't know that we are in conversation with anyone that can fill those shoes unfortunately.

Absolutely. I suppose if there is a counter to this it would be that neither TSJ or Marcus looked to be those kind of players coming into the program either. Maybe TSJ, but even though a good defensive player, he was merely a 10 ppg guy before Illinois. I keep hoping the player development and talent identification we've seen over the last 4-5 years is not a string of luck (I don't think it is, sample size continues to grow)

Jones would be awesome replacement for TSJ. Great 3 pt %. Great rebounder. 2 steals per game. Better than Storr. Brad is great at identifying talent. Losing Jones to DePaul at last second was a heartbreaker. How did Memphis only go 22-10 and not make NCAA NIT?

Claude shot a reasonable 30% as a frosh. His stats other than 3-point shooting are very impressive -- if he could be a 35% 3-pt shooter he could be all B1G Ten:

I have to remind myself that Domask and Hawkins are still possibilities. It's easy to forget that with all the portal battlegrounds so active. But if we were fortunate enough to land Jones to go with White, two electric and scoring wings, Marcus' role might be different.

TSJ was a top 15 transfer in the portal. He was a blue chip transfer. Marcus, was definitely a diamond in the rough but that very hard to bank on getting one of those every year.

So, yes, this could happen and Brad definitely seems to get the best out of his players. It would just feel better to me to get that blue chipper that is an instant starter, 18 PPG type kid.

I still have trauma from the slogan that "Bruce will coach 'em up" haha

TSJ's per possession metrics were very good before he came here (on respectable usage and minutes). He got even better in his last year here, but he didn't have nearly as far to go to be 1st team B1G as the players being discussed lately. Domask was about the same statistically here as he was the year prior, though that likely reflects some improvement due to the bump in level of competition.

So yes, there was some development there, but they were already very well proven. I hope we can bring in guys as proven as they were, or else we're counting on even more magic (either in player development or finding more talent than there appeared to be)
