I know it’s wild to guesstimate our starting lineup for next season, and I’ve seen plenty of dream lineups, but idc who shows up, I just can’t see Ty not being in it. He started every game on an Elite 8 team. I know his shooting limitations, but he’s one of the best rebounders at 6’6” out there and is so high energy. Just a huge Ty fan in more ways than one.
I love Ty, but he killed us in multiple games. If you want to be a title contender you can’t start a guy with his limitations IMO. I don’t believe he will be starting this go around.

Hoping like crazy he works on his shot every day for the next 6 months. At least get a reliable 12-15 ft jumper, if not necessarily a 3-pt shot.

I know that Underwood loves him, so I'd have to guess he'll somehow be in the starting lineup.
He may start but i do not think he is closing out games given his shooting issue from the FT line nor do I see him one of the top 5 in minutes per game if teams employ the strategy of not guarding him.like UCONN, Purdue and others he will not play nearly as much. Luke started playing more as the season progressed whem teams didn't guard Ty. Tys time went down a good bit later this season when teams used this strategy and he will need to figure it out. I hope he can but its not like he hasn't been working his tail off at trying to get a jumper and he is yet to even attempt one that I've seen in 2 years.

I love his athleticism and the fact he doesn’t try to play above himself. He plays very hard, but I do hate it for him that he can’t play from the perimeter. If he ever developed a jump shot he’d be unreal.

If you want to have a culture of toughness, you need guys like Ty. I hope he stays, improves and shows the newcomers what it’s all about.

yeah, he does. I think he's better than Minix though
There is just something about a 6’9” kid who gets under 5 rebounds a game that gives me pause.
There are very few things in this world more frustrating than opponents getting offensive rebounds.
The kid, however, can really shoot it and isn’t afraid to attack the lane. He would unquestionably fit on offense.

while that's true, his O is off the chart. he's a 1 on 1 nightmare, great shooter, great range, great at booty ball, regularly finds the open man. not gonna lie, I love his game. better outside shooter than Domask. kind of a Knecht/Domask hybrid. major, major weapon. I can easily live with low board numbers.

At the end of the day you can't be his size and be so limited shooting-wise.

Loyalty Hyperbole. There's nothing quite like it.
Hyperbole? Did you watch them play this year? Either you didn’t or you need to get your eyes checked. We played 4 vs 5 on offense many times because he can’t shoot the ball. I love the dudes hustle and athleticism, like someone else noted. The guy is a complete liability in many matchups though.

I mean, we were just in the elite 8; and we were, imo, the team with the 3rd best chance to win it all out of those 8. His limitations matter, but not as much as many make it out to be.

Your opinion that we had the third best chance to win it doesn’t hold any weight unfortunately. Thats fine to believe that though.

IMO we made it to the elite 8 because of the big 3, and more importantly having a top 10 college player going on a heater. Ty is a great guy to have on your team, however IMO I don’t believe he should be starting. As you get deeper into the tournament the limitations are even more glaring.

I’m not sure why that bothers people.

How exactly did he kill us in multiple games? The matchups he struggled in he was pretty much taken off the court and sat on the bench through the entirety, with our bench players similarly struggling in that position for the most part. If you want to focus on the Edey and Clingan matchup on offense, I mean yeah, he wasn't good in 2 of those 3 matchups, but that could also be said of pretty much everybody in college basketball. That's why they were in the title game. I can understand the argument of "We want to play 5 out at all times" as a reason Ty wouldn't fit in our future plans, but saying he killed us in multiple games, I really don't follow the logic in that whatsoever. We finished with the #3 offense in the country and Ty was our 2nd best defender most games. He also finished with a 1.14ppp efficiency last year. Even if you were to replace him with say a CoHawk level offensive talent who can play a 5 out sort of style, you're only projected to score an extra about 4pts per game. Plus Ty's replacement would have to play as good or better defense...

Point is, Ty was actually quite good for us last year and the numbers and metrics show that. And he's only a sophomore. He figures out better body control and to finish under contact this year and picks up a consistent 6-8' jumper, hook, or floater, his potential is really high.

Evansville had a 76.9 DRB% (really good) when Humrichous was on the floor versus a 71.3 DRB% when he was off the court. His individual DRB% wasn't great but he could have been more focused on boxing out other guys than grabbing the rebound. Not too concerning IMO.

Johnnell Davis has good size as a combo guard and stat line better than Storr. FAU struggled later 1/3 season but were known to be an unselfish group. Transfer portal guys need to have a level of unselfish and remember they are part of a team. That is why I would like this addition, I'm not sure he is better than others like David Jones but I do like the unselfish style he came from. He reminds me a little of Derek Harper, 1983 PG from Illinois.

Sophomore Ty: 6 ppg, 5 rpg, 2 apg. Was highly efficient shooting 52% from the field. He started and played 22mpg.

Sophomore Coleman Hawkins: 19 mpg. 6 ppg, 4 rpg, 1.5 apg on 44% shooting.

I can’t get the image out of my head of Davis having a chance to win the game for FAU against Northwestern in the first round of the tournament. With 7 seconds left he basically walked the ball up the court, tried to shoot a 28ft three, and was blocked. Then got blown out in OT. Tough look to end your year. Just bad basketball IQ all around. It’s only one play, but arguably the most important play of the year.
