This is what I don't like about the way Underwood is recruiting, and I'm guessing Chester wasn't a fan either. He isn't filling holes. He's just bringing in players.

So it sounds like we will get Antigua. We know Antigua is very strong with Caribbean players and New York players (strange how so many guys from the Caribbean end up playing basketball in NYC), so let's say we land Koby Brea. What's the difference between Goode and Brea? They're redundant players, and bringing in Brea is what is likely to push Goode out.

Assuming that is what happens, I'm not sure I want that. We know what Goode can do. Through his Jr year, Brea shot 39.4% from 3 compared to Goode's 38.8%, only Goode was doing it in the Big Ten and Brea was doing it in a mid-major conference. Brea obviously exploded this past year, but will he be able to do that in the Big Ten? Let's just pretend that Goode goes to Indiana, we get Brea and they both shoot 42% from 3 next year. Is this a trade anyone wants to make?

This is where I say you better win. If you are going to run off every player I've grown to like, because you think someone else is better, you better win and win big.

There are not many data points in this transfer portal world to know for sure the best approach. Last year we brought in a bunch of guys and it didn't work, team chemistry was poor. This past year, we brought in a lot of guys and it did work. My fear though is that having a guy scoring 23 ppg covered a lot of flaws. I don't think we're going to get that again next year. So, year 3, again we're going to bring in a lot of players, and insane amount if you ask me. What will our results be? Guess we'll find out.
I'm not sure we are getting Brea but to say you want Goode over him is an insane take. He shot 50% from three on 6 attempts per game

I don't understand why Illini fans still fear the current-era transfer portal when overall I'd say we're net winners.
Eh, I fully understand both sides. Most Illini fans think the portal has been exceptional for us and has made us into a powerhouse again. But I also think many just hate the direction that the portal has caused college basketball to go in. I think both of those are very understandable and reasonable takes.

One of the most shocking parts of the new portal era for me is that hilariously Tom Crean might now be considered "ahead of his time" and a "basketball innovator" instead of a villain. He was simply portalling before a portal existed. Who saw that coming? Now excuse me while I projectile vomit in Bloomington's direction
I think because we have yet to land our marquee player. Most of the blue chips transfers have already committed to their new schools.
Humrichous will be cool assuming we get him, but he’s the last project-type player we could take I feel like. I think anyone else we get after that would have to be a DUDE
We're running out of DUDEs in the portal though. Most of the them have already committed.

listening to Rush this morning all medded up and life is fantastic........NL # 3 has been smiling all morning long and we wanted to share our feelings on recruiting and the unjust persecution of our oracles........we find it unseemly to allow any troll to bring unwarranted charges or suspicion of charges against these fine young men of the Illini Nation............

Close ranks and protect our sanctuary at all costs..........it's us against the rabble rousers of the evil empires that see us as a threat to their closely guarded and media protected facade's.........

Is it? Is he going to shoot 50% when he steps up in competition? Both Domask and Harmon saw their 3pt% drop when they had to play top talent night in and night out. The kid can definitely shoot, but so can Goode. The 3 years prior to last year, Brea was, as I pointed out, a 39.4% shooter. Do we know if last year was an outlier? Damonte Williams had this wild 55% 3pt shooting season and went right back to normal the next year.

The whole point of my post was, Underwood is not saying, ok we lost this from the roster, we have this coming back so here is our recruiting approach. He's saying ok, let's see who I want. If taking that guy runs off one of my returning players, so be it. Thus, we will have close to 0 continuity. Fans will routinely see players they like leave and replaced by newcomers. If you're going to do that, those players you bring in better win or the natives will get restless.

Remember last year when we “didn’t land a pg” and everyone was losing their mind about Brad not getting it done…..and then we went to the elite eight?

How about everyone takes a collective chill pill and remembers that Brad has this program in a great spot. He will get the guys he needs to compete next season.

If we are going off of single performances, did you watch his game at Wisconsin?
Dude, I saw KSU, NW and I also saw Derek Harper go 0 of 17 too over 2 games as an Illini. Give me a break, kids gonna get paid for a reason. I heard Robbie Hummel giving him props big time. With all do respect to Luke n Ty if you think they could take over a game like he did then your wearing orange shades. Dude is good and would start.

I think it’s fair to say where it stands today, this is not a great team with the additions. I understand the concerns. The portal results last season worked out unbelievably well and staff deserves a ton of credit for that. The year before…looked great but was kind of a mixed bag. I do think BU has earned the trust but I also understand the concerns. Don’t think that’s unreasonable.

I'll bite. So 50% in the A-10 equals what in the Big 10? Also unless the culture talk is a bunch of bs (which is the direction it is trending) having a foundational player in the program certainly has value that doesn't show up in individual game statistics. Ultimately, the value of Brea over Goode may lead to you Brea, but to say it is an 'insane take' is, well...insane?

Thus far I have had two days that were extreme one way or the other during this offseason. Let's start with the bad day. When Michigan got another coach. I need not say anything else about that. No one enjoyed seeing SCUM dwell in the cellar as much as I did. Now for the good day! That's when I heard that we are bringing Antigua back.
