I knew the Domask stuff would come, but dragging Dalton Knecht into it is really next level “all white basketball players are the same” stuff.

Humrichous is significantly longer than either of them. High and quick release too, that jumper plays at any level. But, I’ve watched all the clips I can find on Youtube and I don’t think I’ve seen him post up a single time. Neither does Knecht.

Domask *always* had that. He sought out back-to-basket situations which is not typical for players of his size, not really typical for anybody these days. It was a unique aspect of his game personally.

Brad Underwood is not a great coach because he reworks pieces into an assembly line of the same roles. It’s precisely the opposite, Underwood is one of the great compilers of weird pieces, he finds ways to let guys do what they do best in a team context.

We’re not going to play booty ball next year unless we have a guard for whom that is an existing strength. Humrichous is neither a guard nor is that an existing strength. He will do what he’s good at which is shoot over people and drive against undisciplined closeouts when teams lose track of him.

Call me old fashioned but Luke Goode was invaluable not just because of his play but because of his role in the culture on the team. I do not like pushing out guys like him even if it’s for a better player. Guys like Goode or Harmon who just play for the team are irreplaceable. I don’t like this at all.
Got a chance to talk to Justin (wearing Ty’s #20 jersey) at the ICON event on the field at the Spring FB game. What a great kid. I said how glad Illini Nation was that he chose to come play at Illinois and what a fun season we had. He teared up as he responded with that he was SO glad he came here and that he felt very, very blessed… 🧡 💙

Employees are free to leave a job at any time and non-compete clauses are legally invalid in many states.

(There was an effort to do that in Illinois that I don’t recall the outcome of tbh)

That the sport cannot go on like this is clear. *HOW* to get to where it needs to go is devilishly tricky.
Two-year or four-year escrow accounts?

I hate the new landscape in college basketball, and maybe it's not just basketball. I grew up watching players grow into roles on a team. I got to watch as new players blended in to the rotation of players that we already knew. Now, they just go get whatever type player you need, and when the season is over you find someone to take their place. No loyalty in either direction. The mid majors are serving as a feeder program to the power five conferences. Why root for or get excited for high school signing classes? They are just gong to get recruited over and pushed out in a year or two.
I share many of your emotions but there is nothing to be done to change things. This is how it is going to be. We can choose to adapt or find a different passion.

Brad got smart this season and put Ty/Dain behind basket so they would not clog up lane when Marcus was doing booty ball or TSJ was driving the lane. We stopped trying to post Dain in the low post.

So, IF Jones decides to come back after draft feedback (big if IMO), what are our chances? He seems like the only real possible TSJ replacement out there we might have a chance at actually landing.
