I think since both Trent and DMW were both originally Groce recruits they don't count. Brad did have to re-recruit Trent through so the tweet is still somewhat unfair.
Right, but I think the point is they both played for him for 5 years. So the tweet is factual, however, there should at least be an acknowledgement of DMFW and TF.

I disagree. Seeing how frequently players open up recruitments/transfer due to coaching changes, Frazier and Williams both certainly had to recommit, or solidify at the very least, to Coach Underwood’s program. I’m with @Indy Illini Fan here.

I’d say things that shouldn’t count here are discrediting players like Ayo and his commitment to Coach Underwood. He finished his career as an Illini. 3 or 4? Who cares there. Selfishly, I would have loved a 4th. Im dumb, but not that dumb to expect that.

Go Illini

I'd rather be at Allerton
Here's the thing. I like loyal guys. I like gritty guys. I like the guys who ride the bench and may get into a game or two and make an impact. The sixth or seventh or eighth man. I will root for this team no matter what because I'm a loyal alumnus and I sure as hell don't feel like getting another degree from another school at this point to add another fanbase to my belt (it's hard enough with the ND Law degree LOL).

But you know what else I like? WINNING. Winning is the effing BEST. And yeah the team has never made it to the top of the mountain but we're getting closer and the journey is so much fun when we do.

The old system was not tenable, so it had to change. This new system is not tenable, so I suspect we will see it change as well. But at least these kids are getting PAID for their efforts, which makes me happier than it did to see people profiting off their likenesses hand over fist when I was in college.

Losing Sencire, Amani, and Luke hurts. It'll hurt the next time a dude I like hits the portal. And I root for most of them after they leave, because they'll always be Illini to me. But my heart is with the orange and blue, and with those dudes who will BUY IN to what Brad (and the University) are selling.

Oskee Wow Wow.

That seems like a good fit for both parties.

Honest culture question....will the team continue to raise their hands in the locker room pep talks and say "1,2,3 FamILLy"?

I'm all about the winning and adding winning players...but dayum. This is rough.
This is the same thing I posted a couple days ago. What is said in the locker room by the coaches? "Gotta be a team. Chemistry men! Play together. Form relationships off the court so it translates on the court."??? That's all hollow to me.

It's more like: "We are paying you to do your job. Be worth your paycheck. If you aren't good enough, you'll barely play and you'll be gone next year."

Doesn't this promote hero ball... A "I better get mine" approach to the game?

I'm comparing him to their pre-lllinois stats.

I agree that it can be tricky to give PGs credit for all that they do, and they often are the one left holding the bag at the end of the shot clock, so their shooting %s can look worse than they really are (Deron's were never good). But his assist rate is low for a PG, and that's usually where pass-first PGs excel (like Deron).

I've never said he won't be great, just that I think he has further to go than TSJ and Domask did.

I know this is the new era and the quickest way to compete but damn it… it all feels wrong. Some of my favorite fan memories are watching guys grow and develop in the program and stay loyal to the school that I love. I know that era is long gone and never coming back. With that being said, championships will alleviate most of my negative emotions regarding the current state of college sports.

ILL.

The Evansville kid Ben Humrichous(visiting soon), tre white, and Jake Davis all fill that shooter with size spot. Not to mention if we get another wing.
Right--but I guess my point is--is IL really getting better with the trade of Davis/White for Goode? Why bring in an unknown and force a known EDG out?

I suppose to me, it seems like a natural progression. Luke won’t be a starter and has his degree. He enjoyed the elite 8 run and that’s his peak. Sure, the team might find more success next year but he’s thinking about his personal future. If he doesn’t see the role for himself that he envisions, I see this as a great move for him. Plus, an IU MBA would be pretty amazing for him (to go along with his stout Illinois degree). If he was my son, I’d probably advise him to take the same route. He loves Illinois and is O&B through-and-through. As fans, we loved him back. He’ll always be an Illini.

Plus, we’ll be fine. We are gonna get some guys. It’s probably a win-win for both parties. Breaking up is hard to do, as the song goes.
