Not sure that is true. You really can't drive to Bloomington from anywhere easily....at least not when I roamed there some 50 years ago. Can't imagine it has occurred to anyone to build some new roads over the past 50 years. /s

Look, if you are finding it difficult to root for Illinois, then don't. Maybe stop watching college basketball until something changes. It is funny, though, because we, as fans, expect these players to be loyal to our university, but fans here seem to want to be more loyal to players--this comes from comments such as "I find it hard to root for a team where I don't know any of the players."

Brad wanted him to stay … Asked him to stay …
It is clear as day that Goode would have been a great role player going forward for Illinois. However, Goode obviously wanted an opportunity to play a more expanded role. He got his degree from Illinois, and I completely respect his decision to move on to try and get that role he wants. Even moving in another direction, Goode is still an EDG, IMO. Nothing but the best to him (even if it is with (spit up a bit) his hometown IU).

I am personally happy that Brad is going out and bringing in more talent year in and out.

Not untrue but he only coached at SFA for 3 years so Illinois is the only place where he could have guys commit to him and play for him for 4 years. I doubt anyone who starts their head coaching career will be much different unless there's a drastic change in rules. Obviously Trent and Damonte committed to Groce and some will argue that Damote was always coming here but regardless those two came here knowing he was the head coach and played 5 years for him.
I brought this up a year ago (the non-4 year recruit thing). As was pointed out to me then (and I got banned for a few weeks for brining all this up), it's a new age. At the time, I was pretty disappointed given the early exit and the lack of chemistry. But Coach held on to the talent he needed and filled the roster with talent and guys that bought into the culture.

If he can continue to reload and get us to the tourney consistently with that strategy, I do NOT care about 4 year players. And until someone leaves and leads a team to an Elite 8 or better (for now), I'd say we're doing ok.

Being pushed out is we need a spot open, you need to leave (i.e. Creaning). Leaving on own accord is seeing playing time greatly reduced due to influx of new talent coming in. I think that is what the Insiders are alluding to.
Right, and your matter of fact “You kidding me” response is wrong. He was pushed out. Whether directly or indirectly, he was pushed out. Whether someone pushes you out a window or you jump yourself because of the circumstances going on around you makes no difference.

how does a fan of the program who i used to watching high school kids grow up and develop
connect to a team that is 12 new guys every year? i get the just win baby, Underwood is playing
the game, but the game is pretty f...'d up. i guess i might feel different when/if we are a final four
team but it doesn't feel very good right now.

This is the new world. I am glad players have the freedom to move without penalty. Close to 100% roster turnover happening everywhere. I am less excited about people moving for NIL$ but that is life.

Alabama loses 5

Last year final 4 - NC state had 4 starters from portal, Alabama had 4 starters from portal

Right--but I guess my point is--is IL really getting better with the trade of Davis/White for Goode? Why bring in an unknown and force a known EDG out?
You are just saying things. Goode was not forced out. And let's be honest here for a minute. During the season, people on this board in every game thread constantly talked sh!t about Luke and his poor defense and how he was a liability (I was not one). Now, since many are having a hard time adjusting to the transfer portal era, people are up in arms about his departure. I am a big Luke Goode fan, but he is not a starter minutes guy. BU cannot not bring talented players in so these players will be more likely to stay. That isn't how you win.

You do like the rest of us and enjoy the success. This change made it possible for us to consistently get high end talent that fits coach's system. It doesn't have that same nostalgia feel, but we will get to that point in time.

Love the kid but, Goode isn't going to start at IU unless they're committed to 16-18 wins, an NIT appearance and a coaching search next April.
They've invested way too much $ in their NIL.

but one year of bad chemistry or injuries and a .500 record and we'll be screaming our head off. the pressure is on.
no time for a youth rebuild.

This is the same thing I posted a couple days ago. What is said in the locker room by the coaches? "Gotta be a team. Chemistry men! Play together. Form relationships off the court so it translates on the court."??? That's all hollow to me.

It's more like: "We are paying you to do your job. Be worth your paycheck. If you aren't good enough, you'll barely play and you'll be gone next year."

Doesn't this promote hero ball... A "I better get mine" approach to the game?
Which message is more relevant/ better prepares you for the next level (NBA)?

Well, the same can be said for if we don't get the guys we need to win ball games, so six of one, half dozen of the other. Effed if he does, effed if he doesn't...
