Gotta remember. He did his senior day walk. He was already graduating and transferring. It was just a matter of when the announcement would come. Thanks Luke for all your hard work to the program. Good luck and see you back in 10 then 20 years for the elite 8 and big ten tournament championship reunion
This is false.

The intended purpose is Twitter sensationalism to draw a reaction.

The underlying thing important to consider though is that in the "Portal Era" we've had one player that's played out their college career with Illinois. That's just a fact and speaks to retention. Impossible to know what Frazier, Williams, Ayo, Kofi would have done if they had the option to leave after their Freshman year and not sit, since that wasn't the case for them. Kofi did almost leave after his Sophomore year, which would have made no sense given how well he performed and his clear usage on Underwood's team.

2020:
Miller - No
Curbelo - No
Hawkins - Yes
Lieb - No

2021:
Podziemski - No
Melendez - No
Goode - No

2022:
Clark - No
Epps - No
Rodgers - TBD
Harris - No

2023:
Hansberry - No
Gibbs-Lawhorn - No
Perrin - well technically he didn't play college anywhere else... but No
Moretti - TBD

12/15 No
1/15 Yes
2/15 TBD

I don't know how this rate compares with other places that did not have a coaching turnover.

Right--but I guess my point is--is IL really getting better with the trade of Davis/White for Goode? Why bring in an unknown and force a known EDG out?
Davis has 3 years left and shot better than/similar to goode last year. Davis has 2 years left and brings a more athletic versitile piece than goode. Also like i said we are adding more to that. So yes i think we got better.

Many think Luke will go to IU, but what about Northwestern? He could play a bigger role there and they have a better MBA program, if that’s his goal.
Aim high for MBA and get major role on basketball team - I sure he would be starter for either.

I know I am in the minority, but I hate the way the new system is tearing apart rosters. How do I even start to care about a team that is 90% new every season?

I am not a fan to just root for the laundry. I want consistency in players. And if that means we are a step below the best, I can handle that.
The transfer tornado STINKS. Enjoyed watching players develop who were proud Illini. My hired hands beat your hired hands. Not what college sports should be.

You are just saying things. Goode was not forced out. And let's be honest here for a minute. During the season, people on this board in every game thread constantly talked sh!t about Luke and his poor defense and how he was a liability (I was not one). Now, since many are having a hard time adjusting to the transfer portal era, people are up in arms about his departure. I am a big Luke Goode fan, but he is not a starter minutes guy. BU cannot not bring talented players in so these players will be more likely to stay. That isn't how you win.
I am saying things. And yes, I'm sure IL said something along the lines of--we want you to stay.. But actions speak louder than words and by bringing in guys at the same position, Brad's intentions were clear.

And everyone keeps implying that we're bringing in more talented players than the ones who are leaving. My questions stands--are we? For all the talk of Brad cooking, I don't see a huge improvement in talent level from Davis and White. Or from Booth vs. Hansberry.

Coach will be judged based on the results of 24-25 team. Results more like 22-23? or more like 23-24?
Orlando joining staff will be the biggest off season acquisition.
A good chance 25-26 will be special or elite, but it assumes that these multi year players (both portal and HS recruited) remain with the program.

I am excited for the future.
Bold assumption. Anyone that doesn't like their Playing Time is likely right back in the Portal. Any teeth to the "one time" so-called rule would help out a lot here.

Sad to see Goode go, but I see it just like Grandison....worked his tail off, hung some banners and always was a team guy. Now, he got his degree and I won't begrudge him leaving for anywhere he can get more tick for his final grad year. Illini for life.

Only thing giving me pause is that we were told that U of I has the most NIL in the B1G now, but it's pretty clear that Michigan and OSU have reeled in more high profile transfer targets *so far*. I'm super hyped on Kylan but other than that, it seems like we've brought in high upside/under the radar guys while missing out on our two top targets in Maddox and Storr.

If we keep saying that we're gonna bring in new guys that'll make our current guys think they won't get any minutes, let's hope we actually bring in the kind of studs in that will justify that approach.

I know I'm being naive, but it just doesn't feel right that a college student athlete (with a scholarship) should have more flexibility to come and go at their whim then a professional that supposedly has a players union fighting for their rights.

they didn't push him out, just an fyi. He saw the writing on the wall when the staff told him they are adding 3-4 more guys
Eh, feels like splitting hairs in a lot of ways. I see the business-employee relationship as a two way street. If you don't give your employees raises or a real opportunity at promotions or upward mobility, instead opting to bring in experienced people for all those positions year after year at much higher salaries than your own, you might not be "technically" forced out by definition, but it's more a semantic argument than anything. Especially if when the company hired you, they presented the opportunity as one where you will get raises and promotions if you put in the work.

And just to be clear that's not commenting on the good or bad in this approach, just that this does appear to be the business model Brad has chosen. I don't think it's unfair to say that if Brad really wanted Sencire, Luke, and Amani to be back next year, he would have pretty easily figured out a way to do so. But doing so would've limited his alternate options, and he seems to want them to be on the team far more at this point.

I don't think the "sport cannot go on like this" thing is that clear. I really couldn't care less about players having the right to move when they want and make $. I'm probably in the minority but I don't think it's a huge minority and I would bet that there's a majority of the majority that will eventually accept this new reality and deal with it.

It's not a whole lot different than building a roster of 5* talent that go to the draft after 1-2 yrs. Either way you're still not going to have guys around for 4 yrs. I don't care which way UI does things I just want the most talent and I want a natty.
That worked well for Kentucky ten years ago, and not so much since.

Davis shot worse (3pt%) at a much lower level and his stats will almost certainly go down in the B1G. We'll see on his versatility. I'm a bit skeptical.
