Alot of changes from last year so here's my uniformed attempt on how I see it so far:

Likely Upgrades:
OA for Frazier
Boswell for Harris
Morez for Dain
DGL for Moretti (assumption is he's leaving)
Yr 3 PF Ty replacing Yr 2 PG TY

Neutral moves:
Tre White for QG
Jake Davis for Goode
Unknown replacement for Domask (optimistic they'll get someone good)

Likely Downgrades for next year:
Booth for Hawkins
Unknown replacement for TSJ

Off-season is only at the halfway point. Biggest variables I see:

1) Seeing out the not likely but not impossible chance either both or 1 of Hawkins and Domask returns

2) Who can Illinois get as a go to wing scorer to step in to that TSJ role. TSJ was so great it's unlikely to be replaced with just 1 person, but with other roster upgrades that's ok.

3) If gone, who takes Domask role as an scorer who can step up when called on.

All that to say a lot has happened already and there's still a lot to go. Any judgement good or bad is wildly premature. Having said that because of all the changes the consternation isn't surprising, neither the faith.

Have fun this next month!!

Coleman going portalling would be an unimaginable dagger…
Yeah, that would be time to panic.

Coleman is nobody’s fool though, and handling it this way would definitely increase his leverage to get the most possible out of Illinois.

But Coleman Hawkins playing for a different college basketball team next year simply cannot happen.

Haha. That’s not the take here. Building a culture and an identity requires some glue guys and team players, of which Luke is both. As a player that bought into the necessary culture demands, to be recruited over, is not a good program move, especially when that dedicated player has a valued skill set. Anyone that’s ever been involved with JUCO athletics will understand this take.
Of course none of us on here really know what the conversation was between Luke and staff, but a couple insiders alluded to the fact that they asked him to stay and most likely for the reasons you stated above. Fresh off of garnishing his new business degree he probably realized it would be a wise business decision to try to continue honing his skills with a new employer for both growth in experience as well as financially. If this wasn’t a business before it sure as h*ll is now.

Asking price has gotten out of their range …

This portal world is crazy
Schools with at least one (1) billionaire alumnus/sports enthusiast should be able to raise unlimited funds for their NIL needs. It's why I've chuckled when I hear the use of NIL "budgets" for some of these programs. One would think several schools against whom we're competing (i.e. Arkansas) should have no parameters on what they can spend.

The NIL figures being thrown around are just small change for someone with even just $1 billion dollars. On average, the growth on a billionaire's assets should hover at $80,000,000 per year. The combined forces of the Tyson and Walton families will be a formidable foe in this new world!

At least our pro sports in the U.S. utilize salary caps......

I don't read too much into it - He spent 3 years at SF-Austin, 1 year at OK State, and while he's been with us for a while, his 3rd year was interrupted with COVID and then the Portal Wild West kicked into gear. For what it's worth, it doesn't count guys like Kofi, Ayo, and Giorgi who only played for us & him in their 3 years in college.
Let’s also not forget that while Trent and Damonte didnt commit to Brad, they each played their entire 5 year careers for Brad (as previously pointed out). Meaning they stayed committed after Brad was hired and stuck till the end. So it’s not like Brad has only used mercenaries or has always run guys off. And he has risen this program to levels unseen since 2005 in 7 seasons. So alot of the guys he was recruiting originally were guys that really shouldnt be near a Big Ten program, but it was really all we could get after the Groce years. So in order for Brad to raise the profile, he had to raise the talent. Then NIL and the portal changed things massively for his last 2 seasons. Does Miller leave if he has to sit a year? Does Epps? Also, people reminiscing about how it used to be rooting for guys for 4 years, I ask this:

How has that worked out for Michigan State fans the last 2 seasons?
