They wouldn't be billionaires if they thought so small. Analytics should estimate a player's value to a team and that value should be assigned a dollar value. On the player's end, it's not just the money but also the playing time to show off for the NBA, so you can't just buy the ten best players because five of them won't start.

I am VERY confident in Illinois landing two very big pieces in the next couple of weeks.

If Humrichous is the second best transfer we bring in…I think we’re in trouble. It’d likely go:

1. Jones
LARGE GAP
2. Boswell
3. Humrichous
SMALLER GAP
4. Booth
5. White

And we’d still need a 2 and a big unless we run a big guard/small big lineup like Boswell, Jones, White, Humrichous, Booth/Morez.

I can’t gauge the 2 or big we’ll get because it’s gonna be extremely fluid, but I just don’t see that being more than around 20-10 and an 8-10 seed unless the 2 or big is a must-get stud like Jones. And this is assuming we get both Jones and Humrichous which is not even close to a given. That also leaves us with one shooter on the bench who should only be playing about 5-10 mins in the B1G this year (Davis)

Let’s also not forget that while Trent and Damonte didnt commit to Brad, they each played their entire 5 year careers for Brad (as previously pointed out). Meaning they stayed committed after Brad was hired and stuck till the end. So it’s not like Brad has only used mercenaries or has always run guys off. And he has risen this program to levels unseen since 2005 in 7 seasons. So alot of the guys he was recruiting originally were guys that really shouldnt be near a Big Ten program, but it was really all we could get after the Groce years. So in order for Brad to raise the profile, he had to raise the talent. Then NIL and the portal changed things massively for his last 2 seasons. Does Miller leave if he has to sit a year? Does Epps? Also, people reminiscing about how it used to be rooting for guys for 4 years, I ask this:

How has that worked out for Michigan State fans the last 2 seasons?
Not all change is better. I’m fine with the portal as a one time thing. This five schools in five years isn’t good. At all. You’re not going to convince most people it is.

They had a bunch of spots open already, let's not act like it's impossible to live in a world where they added a few transfers while also retaining players with eligibility remaining. It's not like the ones leaving, Dainja, Hansberry, Harris and Goode couldn't be high-level college basketball players or couldn't have fit in and blended with some new transfers that would be here regardless due to eligibility age-outs. That would likely be a more successful squad than recruiting an entirely new team and hoping it works out.

Just an observation......

UConn only had 3 transfers in it's top 9
Purdue had 1

I believe this is the most effective way to thrive in the Portal Potty Era. Recruit, Develop, and KEEP the RIGHT players to add stability to your system, and fill in the blanks with the right transfers. I like to win BIG all season long, not just after the new year as we wait for a brand new roster to rebuild chemistry 100%.

So what we are doing is not the "new norm" for all CBK, however it is for us at this time. Hopefully we ease into the above method as it is more sustainable and provides more consistent results.
You may be right, but I am not convinced that the "Purdue method" is sustainable without Edey... we'll find out next year. Most programs are not going to be able to do what Painter is doing and have elite success (e.g., see Tom Izzo).

And even UConn is not some model for stability in the transfer portal era... actually, what was incredible about UConn is that every single player in their top 9 except Samson Johnson was either in their first year or second year at UConn. It's not like Hurley had a bunch of guys that stuck around for four years... he hit the jackpot with the right combination of pieces/coaching.

Newton - Transfer; on his second year at UConn
Spencer - Transfer for one year only
Karaban - Sophomore
Clingan - Sophomore
Castle - Freshman
Diarra - Transfer; on his second year at UConn
Johnson - Junior
Ball - Freshman
Stewart - Freshman

Nice synopsis but a lot needs to play out. I for one feel that Tre White is going to be better than most people think. I also expect a wild card coming. We will see.

Actually, you are proving my point. Thought he actions of the coaching staff and Luke’s adult decision making based on what is going on he is choosing to leave. Thus, indirectly pushed out.

Yeah, that would be time to panic.

Coleman is nobody’s fool though, and handling it this way would definitely increase his leverage to get the most possible out of Illinois.

But Coleman Hawkins playing for a different college basketball team next year simply cannot happen.
I think he'll stay with a pro declaration. This is the softest draft year in a long time. If he's gonna get drafted or sign a 2-way contract, this is the most ideal year to be coming out of college.

The most striking thing at this point is just the lack of players.

We have 9 players right now, and two of them are Jason Jakstys and Nico Moretti.

Tre White’s empty inefficient chucking on Louisville last season is the only double digit average scoring effort in college basketball currently on our roster.

Seems like only a few hours ago people were saying how Brea would be so much better than Goode. Congrats guys...you got neither. Which was the point many people have been making. Directly or indirectly pushing players aside for 'possible' new and improved players makes little sense when you don't actually have those players committed. You wind up going down your list pretty quickly trying to fill a hole you didn't have to create. And now I suddenly I see some posts saying Davis is taking Goode's role. You sure about that? A lot of faith in a guy that most have seen a 2 minute highlight video of playing against much worse competition.

And for those who say, "Goode wasn't pushed out" and "Brad asked him to stay" I think those words likely rang pretty hollow to the guy when he sees the reports too(and I'm sure way more). Why would a guy stay when you are actively trying to eliminate his minutes? Not saying we should play guys who don't warrant it...but this game of tossing everyone aside for the next guy is an awful approach. And I keep hearing that "Brad is cooking..." but other than a guy who literally grew up in town has he served up much? And now we have Antigua and he's going to bring in a ton of guys I hear...but why is this just happening? And what if he didn't come? I'm questioning what kind of plan we have really had. Maybe it will all come clear soon.

I am in the Trilly discord and have been one of the people badgering him. Last week, Trilly said that last he heard, coleman was going pro, period. He followed up today and said Coleman to the portal has legs. Someone followed back up and asked if it was happening for sure, or just an option, and trilly reiterated simply that he was considering it.

I don't think that is technically anything we didn't know. Coleman was likely always considering the portal. I think the only way we know anything for sure is by sitting and sweating it out until 5/1.

Whereever coleman goes (hopefully outside the B10 lol) I will root for him. Through tears, of course, but i will root for him.

I got told a couple days ago to "Relax" "Step away from the ledge" etc...yeah alright. But how good is this good news supposed to be? We getting more project-type high ceiling guys with glaring weaknesses? Or are we getting at least a David Jones caliber guy for sure? So far things haven't been going well. Saw on the Trilly board some UNC insider is hinting at something chaotic going on with the Illini program. Is this smoke legit? It's early but it's been a rough portal offseason so far.

Unless I am mistaken, Coleman has graduated and could theoretically transfer any time he wanted. He doesn't have to enter the portal by May 1st.

I have no insider info about the extent of his injuries or whether he might consider playing college ball next year, but if I am Coleman, I am trying to avoid having to play the '5' position again, whether that is in college ball or pro ball.

I know we should trust the staff but we're still missing multiple starters and its getting stressful...

For the record, I think people are sleeping on Davis like they slept on Domask. I'm not saying Davis is going to be Domask next year, but I like his game.
