Seeing Ugonna is from Nigeria, does that mean he can’t profit from NIL?
I think that rule normally applies to kids on a student visa that are only here to go to school, so they can’t work in general, including collect NIL

Ugonna went to high school in CT - so I doubt that applies to him

I know, I couldn't resist.

To just put a very generalized point on it though, Humrichous is not a creator, he's not a distributor, he's not a guy you want the ball in the hands of all the time.

He's a dangerous weapon standing in the corner, and that threat opens up the floor for others to create.

Ty does like to post up, but if the shot isn't initially there for him it all goes awry.

Guys, booty ball was not a Brad Underwood thing, it's not a system Illinois is building towards, it's not a secret to unlock offensive performance, it was a solution to make the best of Marcus Domask's particular skills on a 5-out team with no real point guard.

Posting up a guard can always be a stealth weapon, especially against certain matchups, but running your whole offense through that action is a terrible idea unless you stumble into a weird set of player characteristics as we did last year.

To synthesize both of the above responses, we know very little about next year's team, but the one thing we can be sure of is the offense will be initiated by and run through Kylan Boswell, the 5-star starter for Pac12 champion Arizona. Our experiments with non-PG basketball are over for the time being.
Damascus was a booty ball outlier, he could scoop, hit the fade away, use the backboard cue ball shot, hit the three, and the behind the backboard jumper. Don’t think you will find another booty baller with those multiple skills.

Getting Onyenso locked down will help with other pieces- hope OA makes this a quick process and we get him

Adding Fland I think would be huge as well- just for the splash of it and to get two ball handlers and excellent three point shooters like Fland and Boswell together would be a dynamic back court

Then we can add one more scoring piece but we won’t absolutely have to have any certain position

Good question. It’s a matter of his visa status.

He moved to the US in January 2021 to play high school basketball, it’s possible he’s gotten a green card in that time?

But if he’s on a student visa he’s stuck in the same boat as Zach Edey who also played a year of HS ball in the US.
Incidentally, David Jones is a Dominican citizen and it’s the same situation for him.

Cheating these rules would have cops main UI campus is much more afraid of than the NCAA sniffing around, but we shall see.

Really can’t see the difference between Goode and us wanting and being fine with Storr. At least Goode got a degree from Illinois and was part of an E8 team that will have a banner in the rafters. Would like for him to go somewhere else, so we don’t have to play. But degree plus part of an E8 team makes him an Illini for life.
