I always thought that Ace Moore (who taught History of Sport) was the most popular professor. That was easily my favorite class of all time.
Omg, no there's a name I haven't heard forever - Ace Moore. One of the few morning classes that I made a point of crawling out of bed for. I remember him bringing Ray Eliot into the class to talk about the old days of Illini football.
History of Sport - man I loved being an LAS major. 😎

Good luck to Luke! Will pull for him every time he is on the court, but hope he misses when he plays us unless we are comfortably ahead. I said previously that Illini fans are diffierent, because we are passionate but also support our former players. Luke has an Illinois degree, BIG tourney winner, and elite 8 member. He will always be an Illini, not an opinion but fact.
But the candy stripes? Ewww

So is it just like this now?:
1. Money
2. Money
3. Money
4. Money
5. Money
6. Fit with school
7. Fit with coaches
8. Fit with players
9. Close to home
10. Coolness factor

I think donors are gonna find out the hard way over the next couple of years that the "biggest" deal will not always be the "best" deal for many of these players.
If we’ve learned anything from NFL and MLB free agency it’s that the feeding frenzy early on with the deep pocket teams are always going to overpay for talent

There will be “bargains” once the Arkansas, Louisville, Kentucky’s of the sport spend their cash we will be in better position- the problem is they have new coaches needing to prove they can bring in talent, huge budgets to spend and almost whole rosters to fill

I do hope we load up on 2 real difference makers and even find more money to make it happen- this is the year to take a shot

Slow Deep Breaths... It will be fine. Spending millions of dollars takes time... not as much as it should but I guess inflation has hit college basketball hard over the past couple of years. A good center or power forward us up 200% compared to this time two years ago.

I can't help but think of how we would look if an Illinois high school star went to Indiana our of high school and then transferred back home to Illinois. We would be welcoming him home and assuring him that Illini nation would take care of him. LG is going back home (probably), getting a very high quality MBA, maximizing a lifetime of family and social connections and assuring himself that those people over there will take care of him. Seems to me like a pretty smart move and one I hope works well for him. I appreciate his time here and cannot think ill of him for pursuing his best future.
I just can't come to terms that Indiana is anyone's best future

wasn’t Scanlon the Prof of that class ?
or am I all wrong ?
Scanlan taught Classic Civ 115 — Greek and Roman Mythology. Did he also teach Econ?

Edit: Too slow. Again.

I would prefer we spend money on two more difference makers versus four more guys that just fill spots. How much do your 12th and 13th guys play anyway. Add a solid Big and a talented SG and IMO we look good. Those two spots are must's.

I know injuries happen, but I'd take the risk with a roster of 11 guys. Quality over quantity at this point.

I agree with your thought, but I think we need 2 perimeter players and a big.

That's who taught my econ course. He was awful. He literally told us not to ask him any questions because he would not answer them. We were only allowed to ask the TAs. I stopped going to class.
Many of America’s top university professors are more interested in their research than teaching. Not sure if Gottheil was one of them.

Imagine what proven college legends like Magic Johson, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan would be worth in NIL back in 1979 and early 1980's. Seeing what figures are being thrown out to players that haven't yet proven themselves at this level
How do you pay Pete Maravich who averages 44 points a game in each of the 3 seasons he played (freshmen couldn't play back then).

I think I went three times the whole semester I had that class and still managed to pass. Good times.
Yeah. I briefly tried to attend and then gave up when we spent an entire class going over the slope of a line. Stopped after that.

Sounds like the Statistics prof. (2001?) I wasn't learning anything, from him or the tiny 95 lb. female asian TA that was the angriest 95 lb human I've ever encountered. I went to him after bombing the mid term to ask him questions...he laughed at me and told me to go get a tutor.

I did because I had to have it to graduate, and that absolute sweetheart gem of a grad student taught me more in two weeks than I had learned all semester.

Aced the final and passed the class.

As a university professor, I do realize that is sometimes true. But also as a university professor, I feel even more annoyed with that attitude.
My daughter would agree, sacraig. She LOVES teaching and interacting with her Theatre students.

My stats prof at UI was something else. First thing he said is he didn't understand why this wasn't a 5 credit hour course (something no student EVER wants to hear). Then he kept talking about what "he" was going to do and what "he" would show us (and he wasn't talking about himself). I figured he was talking about one of the TAs. It took me about an hour to realize he was talking about the program (SAS). This guy had been so involved with this program he had given it a gender. He never turned down a question, though, I'll give him that. I mean, how could someone turn down this charming face, anyway? You can't see it, but it is pretty charming...
