It may have something to do with OA being on board now - maybe he has a different approach to what he wants people to know
It's also that the portal has gotten completely crazy with the money being thrown at these kids - one of the impacts of high profile jobs changing hand this year is the money those coaches have to spend to win now - I think everyone underestimated the impact that would have . I think the staff was much more optimistic on who they can get early on vs. how this is playing out. The bidding wars over the 110th best player in the portal, etc. is crazy

So, i don't blame the insiders for not wanting to share every time our staff has contact with a kid and get everyone's hopes up knowing someone else will likely come in with more money, so better keep it to who is actually visiting which right now, it appears that's only Ben
Might also have to do with Indy setting up a visit to Indiana after he entered the portal yesterday and DB taking a job in WV……. JK

Chaz Lanier either has, or is about to, enter the portal from North Florida. 19.7, 4.8, 1.8 with eFG% of 63.6. 6'4", .603 (2s,) .440 (3s,) and .880 on FTs. This guy would be a good get to slide into the backcourt with KBoswell. From Nashville, and Tennessee has shown interest.
His jump from junior to senior is crazy. Agreed he’d be a fantastic take.

Iron: "This Illinois team is a sure fire tournament team in my book"

ChiefGritty: "I cannot agree, unfortunately."

Always gotta keep the receipts, just in case.
I know ball

Where will Amoryi (spelling?) Go now that St. John’s appears unlikely?

Trilly Donovan and Kevin Sweeney implied on Twitter Tennessee is a heavy favorite but know things are fluid in recruiting

I’m assuming mystery wing is Jones (not yet in portal) and mystery big is Onyenso. Happy to be pleasantly surprised and find out it’s someone else
Given how good Jones and Onyenso are, I'd rather not find out it's someone else.

No one is a TSJ replacement. But Jones would be the closest thing to have entered the portal.

These rankings make me feel like I'm completely crazy but I agree with you guys.

I'm really, really skeptical of Claude.
When it comes down to it, I trust the guys whose livelihoods are dependent on evaluating both the talent and the fit. If Daddy Brad and the staff are high on a guy, I really don't care how he is "ranked" by outside sources. I do, however, like seeing that we are in the conversation with many more "highly sought after guys" recently. I also like hearing the "rumors" that the biggest splash is yet to come!

Not sure how much eligibility Mor Seck has, but nothing wrong with contacting him now to be better positioned for when the kid enters portal after next season. Start building relationship now.
I'm assuming you are saying this based on the premise he will redshirt this next year. If that is the case, I'd rather have him in the fold, getting the training, absorbing the culture and solidifying relationships with the Coaches, the Strength Staff, and learning the Illini Way. Why 'waste' that redshirt year in another program?

Agree - these portal rankings are completely randomn, beyond the top guys who everyone knows are good - for the rest, they enter the portal, someone at 247 looks up their stats and where they were ranked coming out of HS and put a ranking on them.

HS rankings are highly subjective but at least it's months of evaluation by the guys doing the rankings, seeing them against each other in AAU ball etc. This portal ranking is just throwing darts - so I could care less what someone is ranked, but rather what skills do they have and how they fit in with the team

As some have observed: anticipation is a substantial portion of the enjoyment.

You gotta try though.

Maybe it would be better if they subdivided it into "Next Year Value Rankings" and "Total Future Value Rankings".

That's not perfect either, but it would help draw out the distinction between, like Oumar Ballo and Brandon Garrison, for instance.

Bardo is very down on David Jones per his podcast, Bardo's Breakdown. I guess he doesn't like his game and thinks he is not a team first guy as well as a poor defender
Not the first time I've heard that about Jones. Interesting.
