I have not seen more recent data

Goode to Indiana is, to a much lesser degree, like Albert Pujols going to the Angels. Years later, all will be forgotten and only the fondness will remain. But, Puljols surrendered his “Stan Musial” status and will not occupy the same rarified air as The Man, Gibby, Lou, Red and Ozzie. Likewise, we’ll remember Luke fondly, but he won’t reach Ayo, Kofi, Trent, DaMonte or Coleman status.

Ozzie started with someone else.

Well, I don't really think Luke switching schools kept him out of that group....... think it was more of a talent thing...

Players shouldn't play for both sides of a college sports rivalry.

The norm should be players using their entire eligibility at one school, as is the (also dissipating) norm for students. That connection, that parallel, is unique to college sports and is what makes a laughably inferior minor league competition a beloved (and lucrative) cultural touchstone.

This sport will collapse if this is where its going. And that's bad for everybody.
This is akin to the advent of free agency in baseball. Gone were the days of baseball cards with eighteen years on the same team. I still love the sport of baseball and my team, but have learned not to form attachments to individual players.
You will still like college bball, gritty, but just not as much. Sad, but not catastrophic.

Pujols left for money and a championship. Goode left for an MBA and family. Not really comparable.

So now with 3 spots left, think we should be done with stretch 4s. We got enough at that spot now. The top targets should be a good 5 man, elite wing, and maybe another combo type guard (kinda like Maddox)? Or maybe we can target two 5 men; I mean, we got zero 5s on our roster at the moment.
Water is wet.

I wonder what would happen if any of the posters trashing Luke Goode were to meet him in person… you know, since he’s a real person. I have a feeling no one would waste their breath telling him he’s not really an Illini for life as they’d want to tell him how much of a fan they are. Us fans need to be better…

Morez is kind of a 5, til he proves otherwise, no? Booth can provide spot minutes, assuming he matches up
The most intriguing aspect of the coming season for me is how BU will handle and play Morez. I can only imagine now but expect him to get good minutes at the 4 and 5 during the season without having to carry the team to ludicrous expectations. With 3 spots left to fill the roster indeed looks to have promise..but we don't know yet how many RayJs the Illini are chasing.

Now, if only we can get Pru to take charge of the cheerleading squad.

I think I’d jokingly tell him that he made a huge mistake and that I’ll cheer for him in the NIT. This is still fun. He knew when he made this choice people would react. I’m sure he can joke about it too.

agree , but Luke was never nearly as good as those guys were

Loved Luke but if his dream was to play for Hoosiers (very common for Indy kids) then happy he is getting it.
Assuming Humrichous can maintain his 40% shooting from 3 point land, we are getting a bigger older 6'9" 220 lb version of Luke (who struggled defending in the paint).

I mean it kinda doesn't.

Anderson and Frankie didn't play as freshmen, Ayo was a frosh on the losingest team in program history, and Belo was a lot of fun in a very limited role.

Dee and Kofi are the only guys there who really drove success as freshmen, and as we've mentioned with super seniors still hanging around and the portal making good teams older and deeper, it's a uniquely challenging time for freshmen.

Morez has the opportunity to help us next year, but expecting him to be Batman is a bad idea. Luckily our staff is not expecting that and is out there seeking our big scoring star right now.
Giorgi also had a significant role his freshman year as a starter.

I'm not old enough to know but I'm guessing there were guys like you, saying the same thing when free agency came to professional sports.

Johnny Damon on the Yankees? That's unnatural!! The horror! <clutching pearls>

Apparently some posters would go and spit in their faces and tell the 18-22 year old kids that they’re disgusting and ruining college basketball because they want to make a living.
