Honestly, I trust the program and the staff (insiders). But as a 50+ year fan and somewhat of a smart guy, I just worry more about the 5. We have the players to be an upper tier B10 team, and the coaching staff to maximize potential. If Dain would have stayed, I could have enjoyed the off season. The next TSJ or Domask is already on the team, or will be there soon. We'll just have to see who wants to take that next step. Heck, I had no idea what a player Domask was. It's good to be an Illini !!!

So here I am again waiting for another nugget to make me think we can repeat as B10 or BTT champs.

Not a blue chip player that's going to carry a team but a good player and if it brings DaRon Holmes then sign me up.

Would still want to add an alpha type scorer at combo guard/wing(like David Jones) with that pair but I would be very excited with that team.

Would have two all American type players in Jones and Holmes a bunch of proven role players:

Boswell, DGL, Nico(?)
David Jones, Jake Davis
Ty, Santos, White
Humrichous, Booth
Holmes, Morez, Jaksty(RS)

Maybe that's too many forwards and not enough guards but that size would cause some serious matchup problems and have a bunch of shooters and guys that can get their shot.

not gonna play the lineup game (today, anyway). but I do have a hunch that Tre White is gonna surprise a good chunk of Illini fans. love Rodgers, but he's in a battle for tick

After this year the Covid rules will behind us. Granting the extra year for Covid was the right thing to do but the freshmen that year got a free redshirt year playing basketball

I'll bite: why? Is it because we were trying to fly under the radar from some kids, and knowledge of our interest made others interested, driving up the price? Or is it the very public discourse of our NIL stash making some kids think they can get a lot more out of us than they can?

I know it sucks, but we all just have to be patient here. The insiders across all the Illini platforms have essentially gone “radio silent” since the Humrichous visit. From prior years that means - A. he committed and they are respecting saying anything until the kid breaks it, and/or B. the staff has asked for some silence on this one. Either way, it has historically been a good sign when this happens.

As far as the other spots go I trust this staff. Brad has been a maestro at the portal game compare to many of his counterparts, just have to play the waiting game.

I like White but I think a large portion of this base severely underrate Ty simply based on his lack of a jump shot.

Ty is just the type of kid that is going to win a lot since he is so good at so many things that don't show up in a box score.

Sure he needs to improve especially finishing at the rim but he's already a good college player without a jump shot and there are a ton of ways to scheme for him to be super valuable without a shot and punish teams that don't try to guard him by using him as an off ball screener.

Draymond Green was dropped A LOT when talking about Ty.

Green's shot was just as bad, but he was a force on D & averaged 3 APG his Soph yr. The little things are great, but I'd say progress this year is Ty taking his time on O (like being willing to shoot outside of the paint) & showing up more in the defensive stat column..

At Louisville, what is interesting about the fan forum posts is that Tre was the only player to never quit and prayed hard, all season long. That was the consensus from the Louisville fans.

It appears that Tre is WAY better than we all realize.

It’s also worth mentioning that his numbers this past year as a sophomore are not too far off of TSJs numbers as a sophomore

Insiders thought he’d commit on Friday and here we sit 48 hours later. I was guessing which player Fl_8905’s message about our staff being frustrated with how recruiting gurus have handled portal season which would seem to imply some recruitment hasn’t gone how they expected. Unless it’s a message in reference to something we don’t know about or old news, Humdinger and Jones would be two most logical candidates

You could just as easily surmise that there is a delay in the Humrichous recruitment because someone else said wait coach, I want that spot.

I am as nervous as the next guy, because in my personal opinion, this roster we have right now is quite mediocre, with or without Humrichous. That said, it's not complete. So as much as I'd love to make bold declarations of optimism or pessimism, I don't have enough information yet to really make any conclusions. So I find it best to write amazing posts, and the erase them as to not look a fool in a couple days when new events transpire.

The portal closes in a couple of days. I'm assuming we'll have a heck of a lot more information by this time next week. At the moment, I think the people proclaiming future glory and those proclaiming future doom look equally foolish.
