Kylan Boswell isn't out there going door to door looking for an offer one penny higher.

Players are dealing with the same fog of war our staff is. What is their value? What school will make good on their promises and maximize their take? Really hard to tell. "Recruiting" in the classical sense is not dead, far from it.

If Storr really wanted to be here he would have taken yes for an answer from our staff. No shots at the kid, he did well for himself, but the fact remains.
Hunter did the same thing last year. Thinking playing for KU was going to elevate his game and get him into the league. Didn't happen, not sure it will even happen for him this next year. I believe Hunter has plateaued. I'm of the opinion that Storr will follow the same path, thinking one thing will happen, but it doesn't. We can revisit this a year from now and see if 0, 1, or both of them are drafted. If I were a betting man, I know where I'd place my $$$.

Since tomorrow there will be a new Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread, and I'm going to bed, I thought I would give this a shot: I'M LAST!
Well, if it's any consolation, you certainly know the saying, "If you're not 1st , you're last!!!" So you can feel comfort commiserating with the other 500 posters who have finished the same as you, (and I, lol).

I think there's some reason for optimism, despite the disappointments we're seeing in the portal. 1. I'm still waiting for Ben to come aboard. 2. I believe Booth has a very high ceiling and would be a nightmare to try and guard. He needs to add plenty of Fletcher ASAP. 3. Davis, like Booth has plenty of upside but is also a current freshman. When thinking about this new roster we'll have to keep in mind what Al McGuire always said--the best thing about freshmen is they become sophomores. 4. We'll have an elite point guard in Boswell. 5. DGL is exactly that guy McGuire had in mind. 6. We'll have an elite freshman in Morez Johnson. 7. On the wings, we'll have Davis, a lights-out shooter and an exceptional player in Tre White. 8. We'll still have Ty Rodgers. He can't shoot but he can do everything else and has enough swagger to bring leadership to a blending team. 9. Only one guy--Ben (if we get him) will graduate. All the rest have at least 2 yrs. of eligibility. 10. Fears is on the way and so is Jakstys after a whole year working with Fletch. I'm a believer in BU and his assistants. But I do have to remind myself we are in a rebuilding year, but there are plenty of guys left in the portal and BU is probably not finished.

Pfior to the portal and million dollar per year player contracts the head coach and staff accounted for the a massive amount of the variance in influencing what university a recruit opted to attend and play for.

The head coach and staff today simply do not account for as much variance as in olden times. $$$$ accounts for variance Fund-raising accounts for variance. Strenght/wealth of booster organization. Wealth furnished to university by television network. Visibility of ones television network.. Other backstage variables I am not even familiar with.

One could have a head coach and staff who are excellent recruiters, but the strength of other variables may outweigh the coaches knowledge and skill in some years.

Not sure I understand what you're saying ?

I'm saying AJ doesn't love the game ... He doesn't care about winning ... He cares about himself and getting paid ...

If you think Brad doesn't care about winning ??? I don't know what to tell ya ...
I don't know how you can say he doesn't love the game. I think you have to really know someone to understand desire. Maybe he cares so much about winning he keeps trying to find the place that will give him the best shot at winning.

Hopefully a year from now we will get some of these guys with eligibility to stick around and have some continuity
I hope so, i went to Boston with my daughter from this “high” to now this is just not much fun. Oh well, others are correct I will root for them no matter what.
