I think that its definitely on the table that he comes back to college and it isn't Illinois ...

We do not have a 5 ... Until we do ... We aren't the best situation for him ... Just is what is ...

There are already teams circling on this one ... Blue bloods ...
So last year he wasn't going to come back to UI unless we snagged a PG, this year he won't unless we get a center (or nba).

Interesting stuff.

Interesting stuff.

Getting TJ back and allowing him to get his degree was a big factor in last years decision after missing on Ray J ...

Coleman did his 4 years ... No one besides Ty is coming back that Coleman is close with ...

It's a completely different situation ...

Lol have you paid attention to the last like 10 pages of this.

There are like 4-5 big time scorers that just entered the portal.

Hunter Sallis, Bryce Hopkins, and some smoke on Dillon Jones(Weber State kid and an absolute monster on both ends). Plus guys like Sion James and Okpara.
Not to pour too much cold water on this, but of those guys you mentioned only James and Okpara are confirmed to be in the portal. Sallis, Hopkins, Jones (along with PJ Hall, Clayton, Murrell) were names thrown out to watch but have not been verified (as far as I can tell) to be in the portal just yet.

I’m in agreement on Coleman’s NBA potential and so long as his knee is okay, I can see him being a key role player on a team that makes a deep playoff run.

As far as it being a “weakness” that he struggled to guard bulkier 5s on the block, he’s not being drafted to play 5 and NBA teams generally aren’t throwing the ball to bangers down low.

He can guard 1-4, sneaky good hands and gets his hands on a lot of balls, has pretty good passing/playmaking for someone his size and now has shown he can hit open 3s. All skills highly valued in today’s NBA.

If his knee doesn’t allow him to go into the draft this year, I wouldn’t blame him for shopping around either if we don’t get a 5. Nothing for him to gain by banging down low with Goldin, Crowl, and others.

I'm sure it was. I was just pointing out the running theory then - and now. Similar. Interesting.

@Indy Illini Fan does PJ Hall and Hopkins/Wake Forest kid peak Coleman’s interest enough if he doesn’t like his feedback from the draft process?

Honestly - going to disagree here ... I think that the way we played didn't allow Coleman to show off his defensive versatility ... It showed his weakness more than it did his strengths ...

That frustrated him this season ... It wasn't a secret ...
Couldn't agree more. Hawkins hands are great but having him guard in the low post was painful to watch other bigs score at will.

Wasn’t it just a week ago that we were all told we were dumb for thinking Coleman could/would go anywhere else if he stayed in college?

I understand things are fluid but the narrative flipping 180 degrees in a week or two is crazy.
I think the big key is the NCAA transfer rules changing for grad transfers, which is what Coleman specifically references in his tweet.
All the angst on here about Coleman portaling (and people saying no chance) was before the NCAA approved the changes to their transfer rules that included that grad-transfers must be in the portal by 5/1 instead of being able to enter/transfer after the closing date.

To me, that's the key change in the last two weeks.

Coleman is just keeping his options open, which is smart and I respect.

I feel that even if he goes to the NBA or another team, I won’t be sad. He has more than proved his loyalty to us and owes us nothing more. To go out after an elite 8 run would make sense, cause honestly you’re only coming back to Dra and Ty and a bunch of new guys.
