Was it weirder when Trent Frazier played 5 years for us? OR would it have seemed weirder to see Trent playing for Iowa against us his 5th year?

How about Dee or Deron or Nick or Kenny in Michigan or Indiana Jerseys their 5th year?

What is your honest reaction as a fan?

Like Luke Goode draining 3 pt shots for Indiana next season…I understand that’s just the way it’s gonna be with the way things are in todays CBB world…but I’m not gonna lie ….its gonna feel weird

What you see right now is baseball free agency all on 1 year contracts and with more teams. So by definition without a cap, you have to overpay the field to get your guy unless there’s other circumstances.

And despite their histories, the Yankees have to overspend too, they just have more money to do it.

I don't think Goode is truly comparable in the fact that he already graduated. Attending IU is also getting him scholarship to their prestigious business school for MBA.

I view him much more like a grad transfer, and I can't fault him in the slightest. From the long-term financial perspective, Goode is making the correct decision in every way by leaving Champaign. It will obviously feel weird seeing him play for the enemy, but I am happy that he gets to fulfill his childhood dream and get a great MBA as well.

A good rule of thumb is that if you're creating the preseason #1 team in the country, you are being unrealistic in terms of the likely possible outcomes in the portal.

Sallis, Jones and Hall would all be top 15 guys, maybe top 10. Any one of those three, or Bryce Hopkins, would be a transformational coup on their own.

"Unless your coach leaves" is still emerging from the framework the NCAA itself opened up, that not playing automatically upon transferring is a right of the athlete that is being withheld.

The thing, the ONLY thing, that college athletes have an inalienable moral right to is the fair share of the money their talents bring into the University on the basis of their labor. That's the north star here.

Over the course of the 20th Century the NCAA got a comical amount of leeway to make the "student-athlete" concept stand up as something distinct from an employment relationship in the course of business. Courts and legislatures deferred and deferred and deferred in hopes that the NCAA could create a defensible framework for them to affirm.

All they had to do was cut the kids in on the money. It wouldn't have been easy, it wouldn't have been simple, it wouldn't have solved every problem, but had the organization accepted that the status quo was untenable it could have LED on building a new system that worked.

Instead they panicked, started throwing everything overboard that wasn't "amateurism" and torched their credibility to the ground. They have painted themselves into the corner of being SELF-ACKNOWLEDGED monopolists in the business of college athletics. And part of that process was bedding in the notion that free transfers are an integral component of player rights, in a totally unintentional and path-dependent way.

The system could survive, indeed thrive, with the players getting paid. It would collapse in a decade without any restrictions on player movement. Everyone can see that now, but some of us were saying this in the mid-2000's (and others even before that I'm sure).

It's a spectacular failure of institutional stewardship, and I will continue to beat the drum that it COULD have been different.

Now though, proceeding from where we are? Putting Humpty Dumpty back together again is one heck of a riddle.

EXACTLY! I have been saying for years. Make them employees. Give them a cut.

But no, the administrations and the NCAA wanted to preserve FAKE AMATUERISM that HARMED KIDS. So if you are pining for the old system, just remember, it actively HARMED KIDS. They were taken advantage of. Good riddance to the old system.

In fairytale world, that's awesome! It ain't happening, though. Jones doesn't seem to be entering the portal. PJ Hall will get a huge bag from someone IF he even enters the portal. And Sallis is another major question mark on if he'll return to college. If he does, all the blue bloods will want him.

Also, it's Rodgers, Humrichous, and Jakstys. Just FYI.

Have there been any updates on Humdinger? Curious if there have been any additional visits, rumors, or X posts to give pause. I will remain confident in him wearing Orange until otherwise noted. He will be a big piece for us!
