That is fun. Also name checks out.The lead singer of R.E.M. (Michael Stipe) graduated from Collinville high school in Illinois and worked at the local waffle house. #funfact
I’m old enough to remember when Doug Altenberger played for the beloved. If Ben is a 6-9 Altenberger, we have something special.Andy was a gunner. Don’t see that with Ben. Closer to an Altenberger play style just more height. Honestly, I can’t compare him to anyone that we’ve had here closely.
Looking forward to good things from Benedict Humberbatch.
As of now, we have two guards on the roster - Boswell and DGL. I doubt very much we will go into next year in that situation. We really, really need a SG. And a legit big would be nice also.Add an legitimate 5, and I think we will be in great shape. I know we will get another 2/3.
Yup. And I would add, I'd pay up for quality at those two spots if it means sacrificing the 12th and 13th rides. All I am hearing Indy say today is that Hawkins is basically gone no matter what. We have brought on nothing but 4’s this off season ( out side of Boswell) We need a 5 and a 2. If Hawkins comes back we will have a lot of 4’s not playing and transferring out next year.
We have a lot more work to do for this roster. 4 spots min to fill
The more I learn about humrichous the more I really like him. He the potential a better hybrid of both Domask and Goode.Domask replacement.
yesHumdinger has only 1 year left, right?
To be fair this was approved and known since last October. Borzello is misleading in his characterization.I trust this rule change is a factor in Coleman’s decision, just not sure it has an impact on the timing of him entering the portal now versus earlier in the window.I think the big key is the NCAA transfer rules changing for grad transfers, which is what Coleman specifically references in his tweet.
All the angst on here about Coleman portaling (and people saying no chance) was before the NCAA approved the changes to their transfer rules that included that grad-transfers must be in the portal by 5/1 instead of being able to enter/transfer after the closing date.
To me, that's the key change in the last two weeks.
I look forward to seeing him as one of the five orange pips.Looking forward to good things from Benedict Humberbatch.
Altenberger was a superior defender. hope we're getting the same from BHI’m old enough to remember when Doug Altenberger played for the beloved. If Ben is a 6-9 Altenberger, we have something special.
This. Humrich is a really great get. Really great.Domask replacement.
Or...you could choose to suspend your pessimism in the meantime.Nice!!! Just get me a bonafide stud wing or center and I’ll shut up with my pessimism.
No, he needs more than that. We NEED a scoring wing that's a bonafide bucket getter. We'll never replace TJ, but it's a critical position. We also need a rim protector....a legit 5. We're not good with two backups. We have a lot of complimentary pieces to what needs to be a star. Some nice Ben H stats--- #1 scorer on Evansville #2 rebounder #3 assists. He is used to being the man just like Marcus Domask at SIU. 6'9" 220 - nice size. Probably can defend in post if necessary along with Johnson and Booth.
By contrast Boswell 5th leading scorer AZ 10 ppg, White 4th leading scorer 12 ppg (Louisville had 5 guys between 10 and 13 ppg), Booth 5th leading scorer ND 6 ppg Davis 3rd leading scorer Mercer 9 ppg
Add in Ty, DGL and two freshman and we are up to 9 players. We only had 11 scholarship players last year. Moretti was 11th in minutes played 6 mpg. If Brad can bring in a backup center and a backup PG I think we are good. A star wing would be awesome but even without a big dog I think we have the core of a pretty good team. Certainly comparable 2022 with Coleman, RJ Luke returning and adds Mayer, TSJ, Dain, Skyy Sencire Ty. That team made NCAA and finished 5th in B10.

I dunno, our track record with names is not greatMisspelling his last name will be funny for like 2 more hours.
Still too soonEverything's fine. Good night.
I agree with you, but this is one of things I hate about basketball which is the height nonsense on these team rosters. Hawkins measured at 6’8”. Does that mean Houston’s 6’8” players are really 6’6”?While I understand the hand wringing over needing a 7 footer, look at what Houston did this season. There wasn't a player over 6'-8" that got meaningful playing time for them this season. I'm hopeful we land a seasoned, athletic big like Hawkins (6'-10"+) to compliment Morez and Booth, but I trust BU and company to build a roster and style of play around that roster.
For what it's worth, I think it's just a very vocal minority of posters that think the sky is falling.
We got punished in the paint in a LOT of games with Coleman getting the brunt of that punishment. Neither size, nor physicality are nonsense. They're a requirement, especially with some of the teams we'll see this year.I agree with you, but this is one of things I hate about basketball which is the height nonsense on these team rosters. Hawkins measured at 6’8”. Does that mean Houston’s 6’8” players are really 6’6”?
Yeah it is pretty annoying how much it varies but they tend to add an inch or two to a lot of guys. All the NBA combine stuff is in shoes. Here is some stuff from last year.I agree with you, but this is one of things I hate about basketball which is the height nonsense on these team rosters. Hawkins measured at 6’8”. Does that mean Houston’s 6’8” players are really 6’6”?
Edit: For example, they only added 0.5” to TSJs height on fightingillini.com, but 1.5” to Hawkins.
