We got Dain as a midyear transfer due to an open scholarship, Nico, too. No telling who might be available at mid year this season. Why do we leave a scholarship open? That's just wasteful.

Can you clear this up, aren't there rules against foreign players getting NIL?Brad is playing this pretty smart by going Europe for his center. You can disagree if you want, but I am confident in the kid we are going to land being better than the majority of centers that have been crazy expensive in the portal and for way cheaper. The big time money is going to be saved for their other European target along with a wing
All along I've thought that if we got a guy like Onyenso, we'd be in a good spot at center. Not great (like Kalk) but good. Hope we can say the same about this Euro guy...Brad is playing this pretty smart by going Europe for his center. True, no telling what player that will transfer out eventually we will get.We got Dain as a midyear transfer due to an open scholarship, Nico, too. No telling who might be available at mid year this season.

No NIL if they're on an F-1 VisaCan you clear this up, aren't there rules against foreign players getting NIL?
It was said on an earlier page(s) he went there for two players.Did you just slip in "other European target"? Now you have more of my attention.
Mid year transfers and you aren’t going to keep 13 kids happy, especially if they’re transferring inWhy do we leave a scholarship open? That's just wasteful.
Interesting. Thanks for the update. Is this “other European target” the one that has been noted as “iffy” by some others?Brad is playing this pretty smart by going Europe for his center. It seems there are some loopholes and ways to get them paid, e.g. pay them for signing jerseys while they’re back home over break. Can you clear this up, aren't there rules against foreign players getting NIL?
Other than Boswell who was rumored every off season none of us knew any of the other players who are transferring in were even considering Illinois
- Davis - nobody here follows Mercer basketball
- White - nobody here follows USC basketball or Louisville basketball (dumpster fire)
- Booth - only heard of him because he committed to PSU right after Amani commited to Illinois. Nobody here follows ND basketball.
- Humrichous - nobody here follows Evansville basketball
It stands to reason that our next recruits will be somebody we have never heard off.
Illinois HS basketball recruiting can last several years so we get familiar with Illinois kids
This just is not true. The best wings have all gone elsewhere or never entered the portal at all, the search for a combo guard seems to have… ended?, and now the staff is apparently looking to Europe to fill holes. That worked out very poorly for UCLA last season.
The roster is essentially a bunch of third and fourth options. If, say, both Boswell and a guy like Tre White popped, there a higher-end B1G team there. But that’s a pretty big if, and one would hope Illinois would be in a healthier spot than crossing its fingers and hoping.
Would love to feel the optimism the majority of this board is feeling, but I just don’t see it. There’s zero indication Illinois is in on the best talent remaining in the portal, and the needle-movers are getting few and far between. Turning to Europe smacks far more of desperation than savvy.
Sounds like the rest of college basketball caught up to Illinois in NIL, if nothing else.
There are ways to work around it.No NIL if they're on an F-1 Visa

Just curious, which parts are you saying aren't true? This just is not true.
I'm guessing that it's closer to true than not true. We'll see in the next couple of weeks. This just is not true.
No true 5. We’d get bodied by Michigan and Indiana.Stockton
Jordan
Bird
Magic
Malone
Or who we might lose mid year? But your point stands and I agree. We got Dain as a midyear transfer due to an open scholarship, Nico, too. No telling who might be available at mid year this season.
Kalk wasn't an EDG
I hope you are correct…. So far the European experiments in the past 5 or 6 years have not been particularly successful from what I can recall.Brad is playing this pretty smart by going Europe for his center. Well that is why you put them on an NIL-1 visa. Brad is playing 4th level chess. No NIL if they're on an F-1 Visa
I think Brad should pass on Bird though and go after a more elite wing. He's not athletic enough for the B1G 18.Stockton
Jordan
Bird
Magic
Malone
Oh is he still overseas now? I guess from the Humrichous pics I thought he was back, but maybe those were taken before he left?Good thing Brad is. This dude is really half way around the world right now putting his team together.
