Was going international always part of the plan or a contingency in case of recruits going elsewhere?

Or was it more of an opportunity with OA coming back? Though I thought Geoff was the one with strong international ties.
Brads always liked Ivisic. OA helps with that recruitment even though he wasn’t the main recruiter for his brother.

Hypothetically speaking, if Coleman Hawkins leaves the draft and wants to return to Illinois and the coaching staff arrange for an NIL
amount that Coleman agree to, would it be possible for any of the players that transferred in at his position to decide to
decommit and not have to sit out a year since they signed here under the thinking that Coleman Hawkins was not returning? My thinking is
that since the portal deadline has passed, they can only transfer during the portal without having to sit out a year. Or does that rule no longer apply to the portal?

Tomislav Ivisic is nearly done. Then I think they have a decent (not great) shot at one of the top wing targets.

Expect a backup guard type from the portal as well. Someone cheap.

Egor Demin seems out of price range. Still trying.
Sorry, but for all of the talk of NIL money, this isn't ok. You either have to be able your own talent or you have to be able to afford to build a roster of transfer talent. Ideally, it's a combination of both, but we've been awful at seeing our freshmen become even Juniors, much less seniors.

If he's out of our price range, then there's no way that a bonafide wing scorer would be in it either. I've taken the wait and see approach, but IF this is true....the picture painted for our NIL funds is flat out wrong.

I'll continue to wait and see and hopefully this isn't the case.

The $2M number sounds completely fabricated by an agent...Storr couldn't even get Kansas to budge from the $750k offer and he's way more valuable offensively than Cliff
I agree. Very little is verifiable in this portal environment.

It's possible that, relative to other schools, we didn't have as much $ as we thought. Thus we thought we could get this or that guy for a certain amount that other schools surpassed. Of courses, little seems verifiable with portal $. Someone saying "I heard Cliff got this much" doesn't mean it actually happened.

That said, we still really need a potent SG.
Pretty sure that we have a bingo here. We severely overestimated our NIL money comparatively to other's. We have a TON of big time opportunities open for starters minutes, in a Big Time conference on a team just coming off of a BTT Championship and an Elite 8. We are coming to the poker table with players that we can't ante up with. Disappointing.

There have been several guesses at starting lineups that do not include Ty Rodgers. I find it hard to imagine that being the case, and I even wonder if Coach has given him a guarantee that he'll start.

I'm sure the topic came up at his '23-24 season exit interview, and I'm sure Coach leveled with him. And if no guarantee was given, I think TR probably would have entered, as he doesn't strike me as someone who would accept coming off the bench after starting 100% of games on an E8 team with two NBA prospects.

Plus, I think Coach views him through a similar lens as he viewed Damonte, which going into '24-25 would be that, yes, we're giving up some offense, but the experience, the toughness, the rebounding like a fiend, the leadership, etc. outweighs that -- we'll find ways to score, but we need my guy on the court.

#Led the Illini and ranked ninth in the Big Ten with 87 offensive rebounds.

Our roster isn’t even finished yet. I wouldn’t put much stock in starting lineup predictions until October

Thanks for the more realistic update. Demin seemed too farfetched from the start

Right now, we don't have enough offense to have a guy on the floor that can't score from farther than 6 ft from the hoop. Plus, if Ivisic is in the paint more, it will make it more difficult for Rodgers to drive. To me, Rodgers is going to be battling with Carey Booth to see minutes.

Boswell is clearly the PG, Ivisic will clearly be the 5. We know we need a wing that will presumably be our stud. Put him at the 2. I think Tre White is the 3, and Humrichous likely the 4. We're going to need someone that can handle the ball and give Boswell a breather, or play when he's in foul trouble.

Underwood only plays 7 or 8 guys. So if we know Boswell, Ivisic, White, Humrichous, Morez, stud wing, and backup ball handler are going to get minutes, that's already 7 guys. Maybe that backup guy only gets 10 mpg, but theres still Booth and Rodgers. They're not likely to both get 20 mpg.

There was quite a bit of preliminary work done on the overseas guys that they liked. I think it took a turn towards being a top option when it became apparent that some transfer bigs from the college ranks were asking for a ridiculous amount of money, especially for guys who aren't particularly good on the offensive end. Antigua's ties to Ivisic have helped a lot.
