If Illinois cannot add either Richmond or Lanier, the next highest rated guard/wing is probably 6'5" Wooga Poplar of Miami. He averaged 13.1/4.8/2.1 this past season, shooting 42.6/38.5/86.4. He played against good competition in the ACC, he's experienced, and he has solid numbers. Illinois could do a lot worse than getting a transfer in from Poplar.

Actually, 6'6' Minnesota guard Cam Christie is probably rated higher than Wooga Poplar. I think that Christie would actually blossom as a 2-guard for the Illini, greatly improving his ranking for the 2025 NBA Draft. Boswell as PG, the fast-paced Illinois offense, and body by Fletch would seem perfect for Cam Christie. But it seems like Christie and family are not fans of Illinois men's basketball? Maybe that can change....
I like Wooga and Cam but those aren't "star wings." We need a star wing. I'm talking 1st team All BIG, possibly AA type of guy. Sure those guys oculd develop but i don't think you could immediately, right now at the moment count on them to be those guys.

Think those (in bold) are the only 2 star wings remaining and would LOVE to have either.

There are other guards out there in the portal that I think are still uncommitted. They would also be decent pickups for Illinois as scoring/shooting guards/wings. They include 6'5" Ken Evans Jr. (Jackson State) 18.8/5.4/2.9 on 40.8/39.2/78.2; 6'3" Jordan Ivy-Curry (University of Texas San Antonio) 17.1/5.2/3.0 on 40.1/38.7/79.6; and 6'6" Anthony Dell'Orso (Campbell) 19.5/6.5/1.9 on 50.2/34.9/80.0.

Do any of you (including insiders) know anything about the above three players? Any interest by Illinois? Any opinions on their talent/ability/potential fit?

Get Richmond and another wing and the offseason is a complete success even after losing a ton of guys, considering Boswell and Humrichous and Ivisic are such great gets already

- Purdue and IU are going to get the preseason hype (Still not convinced by IU, but they did add a ton of talent)

- A bit shocked that MSU didn't add anyone at the 5. Can't see them as contenders because of that

- USC is a wild card

- Not really worried about UM, OSU, and Maryland despite their offseason overhauls
I join your skepticism of IU. Talent will only take you so far: just ask Guy Lewis, Pat Kennedy and Ray Meyer, but it can sure do a lot to make up for poor coaching.

We have our center! Tomislav Ivisic is an excellent addition. Great recruiting job by Brad and the staff. That gives Illinois FIVE big men on the roster: 7'1" Ivisic, 6'11" Jakstys, 6'10" Booth, 6'9" Johnson, and 6'9" Humrichous. I don't see any other scholarships going to another big man. Illinois also has THREE "wings" on the roster: 6'7" Tre White, 6'6" Jake Davis, and 6'6" Ty Rodgers. I would think that Illinois will not be adding another wing-like transfer to the roster. Illinois also has TWO ballhandlers/guards on the roster: 6'2" Kylan Boswell and 6'1" Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn. That's 10 (of a possible 13) scholarships. The question on everyone's mind is who else, at what positions, will the Illini next be adding to the roster.
I can emphatically say they will be adding a wing like transfer

If we can't get either or both of Richmond and Lanier...Illinois will still need players to fill the huge void at wing/guard, players who can shoot, score, and hopefully play some defense. In my humble opinion, it just can't be an all (Richmond, Lanier) or NOTHING proposition for the Illini. I'm just suggesting that Illinois needs to be recruiting other players now. For example, I know that Kansas is very interested in Jordan Ivy-Curry.

We should be ranked in the top five next year. If you compare our number six team last year vs next year’s team - piece by piece - this next years team is better. TSJ is the wildcard, but if we bring in a high scoring 2, that could help negate the loss. But matching the pieces, this 2024-25 team is better.

Could Coleman be our wing like player, if he decides to come back?

And if he is not that player - looking like there's not much space for him here anymore. With Big Ben, Booth, Rez - don't think there's enough minutes on the plate to feed everyone. Someone's going hungry.
