PG: Kylan Boswell (6’2”) / Niccolo Moretti (6’1”)
SG: Egor Demin (6’8”) / Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn (6’1”)
SF: Ty Rodgers (6’6”) / Tre White (6’7”)
PF: Ben Humrichous (6’9”) / Carey Booth (6’10”)
C: Tomislav Ivisic (7’1”) / Morez Johnson (6’9”)

Other/Redshirt: Jake Davis (6’6”), Jason Jakstys (6’10”)

I put in Rodgers over Tre White for guard-defense since I think we'd need 2 guys quick enough to guard opposing guards (Boswell and Rodgers).

Hearing rumblings Nico Moretti might return to Champaign
We need a back up PG and I thought he would be a good fit, wondering why he left. I like what he brought in limited minutes last year as a spark plug. The only thing that he doesn't provide is a strong defensive presence.

You're going to see it more often as players realize it's just better business to enter the portal and get out a bit more from your current team.
Risk is highest with his level of player though. You enter the portal and next thing you know your spot on the roster has been filled and you're scrambling to find another spot somewhere else since you're not highly sought after.

We are actually a pretty good landing spot for Nico too. Right now we only have two true guards (Bos and DGL), 2 true wing (Tre + Davis), and 1 unicorn (Ty) on the roster to fill up the 1-3 minutes. Will likely be adding another, but there are a lot of minutes available at those spots. Not saying Nico will get many of them, but in case of injury he definitely might see the court here. That might not be true on many other big conference rosters.

I think people here are undervaluing Jake Davis. Dude can flat out shoot and will find his minutes in the rotation.

For the sake of completeness...

If Nico says he wants to return, we don't have to take him right? My understanding is that entering the portal terminates the school's scholarship obligation to that player. He can say he wants to return, but they don't have to give him a scholly.

That said, I hope he returns.

I wish Brad would just focus on getting more top tier vs a bunch of mids. Historically Brad doesn’t go much more than 8 deep so why then have/pay a roster of a bunch of mids that will never see the floor? Maybe he’s planning to open it up a bit more? Specially I’m referring to Tre and Carey. I feel we would have been much better just bundling the NIL for both of those players to get one stud. Very little point in have a really deep roster if you are not using it, barring any injuries.

Especially if we happen to land Richmond instead of Demin. Richmond’s defense would help cover for Jake, and Jake’s shooting would help cover for Richmond. And I suppose Tre White in the mix might split the difference.

Of course, Demin and Jake together is its own thing - even more shooting, probably even less defense.

That said, as far as I can tell, the consensus on X still seems to be that Richmond signs with St John’s, perhaps as soon as today. We’ll see 🤷‍♂️

Google says once a student-athlete enters the transfer portal, their current institution has the ability to cancel or reduce their scholarship for the upcoming academic year.

That said, unless someone says otherwise, I could see Nico being ideal..

Not to mention mesmerizing defenses into a trance with his magnificent flowing lettuce.

I agree with you, but I'll add, I think people are just recognizing Jake's youth (FR) and thinking that translates to patience in terms of wanting minutes. At least that's my mind set...less about his ability...more about older very capable guys wanting there's now and, hopefully, Jake being ok with that. Definitely, we'll need his shooting ability some games to spark an offense that's struggling.

According to St. John’s fan website, we came in with a late bid for Richmond….

Leading to a potential position breakdown of:

PG: Boswell / Demin / Moretti / Rodgers
SG: Demin / DGL / Boswell
SF: Rodgers / White / Davis
PF: Humrichous / Booth / White
C: Tomislav / Johnson / Humrichous

Jake brings something that we haven't had in years, and that is come off the screen, catch and shoot. We have had spot up shooters in the past, but it has been a long long time since we have had a guy that can come off a screen and knock down a 3. This offense will be different, with less ball dominate players. The screen and roll/flare with Big T and Jake being able to come off screens and knock down jumpers, don't sleep on the minutes Jake will be getting. Shooting is still the great equalizer, and from all the film of Jake I've been watching, I think he will get his minutes if he keeps shooting it well. As for defense, I'd sacrifice some of that with a guy who can shoot it at a 40%+ clip. It seems pretty evident that offense is our priority, we just need to hold teams under 80, because we are going to score 85+ with BU at the helm.
