DGL the rare player who didn't get the minutes he undoubtedly wanted going in to the year and took it as an opportunity to grind and earn them with the same team the following year (hopefully). We should be desperately rooting for him to succeed, or completely embrace the new era of 90%+ roster turnover every year.

Will probably know by the end of the weekend or early next week what direction things will go with Demin.

If that falls through, then the week after the NBA Draft Combine (May 12-19) becomes big.
I said 60% chance he came to Illinois last week...I am at about at 85% now. Just a couple of things to finish

As Fl says here, there are contingency plans in place just in case

Definitely root for DGL to succeed and Ty Rodgers as well. They both work so hard, have stuck it out and not bolted. They both need to raise their level of play going into the 24-25 season to increase their playing time beyond role players minutes. Will be hard to do with the high level of incoming talent on the team.

Possibly part of the deal is finding a visa sponsorship. Maybe that’s been said already too. This is quite the “professional” transaction, if so.

Glad we are figuring it out.

I sincerely hope Egor Demin becomes an Illini within the next couple of weeks. Really, really, looking forward to a 2024-2025 Illini basketball team with Egor Demin at it's core. Demin is rated 3rd among PG's in 2025 NBA draft, 22nd overall (https://nbadraftroom.com/egor-demin/) and would be quite a get for Illini. Paired with Tomislav Ivisic (rated 2nd round pick of 28 in 2025 draft https://nbadraftroom.com/tomislav-ivisic/#more-21986), Carey Booth (rated 61 in 2025), Kylan Boswell (rated 74 in 2025 draft), Tre White (rated 134 in 2025 draft), Morez Johnson (rated 41 in 2026 draft with chance to move up to mid first to second round pick in the 2026 NBA Draft or 2027 NBA Draft). Nice role pieces in Rodgers, Humrichous, Gibbs-Lawhorn and Davis. Jakstys probably a redshirt barring injuries. Another G/W pickup or return PG (Moretti?) and the squad is likely complete. Such a team would stack up well to past Illini teams making the Final Four, including 2005 and 1989 teams, and also includes a lot of possible draft picks among the ranks. Would be a very exciting team to watch. Hope Coach Underwood is able to pull off a Demin commitment and signing. If this roster finalizes, I see starters as Demin, Ivisic, Boswell, White and Booth, with Rodgers, Johnson, DGL, Humrichous and Davis off the bench. Too early to estimate minutes and depends on matchups, but I expect approx. Demin 85/Davis?15, Ivisic 60/Johnson 40, White 60/Rodgers 40, Boswell 75/DGL 25, Booth 70/Humrichous 30. Of course Booth, Humrichous, Johnson could all interchange and even Rodgers and White at 4 in small lineups. This lineup has a lot of moveable, flexible pieces, with ability to guard multiple positions. The starting 5 are all multi-level scorers - offensive weapons and can all of them can play capable defense too, unlike recent Illini teams. Most balanced Illini juggernaut in a long while . . IMHO
IMO it's highly likely that Humrichous starts.

So did someone just randomly ask what the chances are that Fears reclasses in December and then it turned into a thing where people keep talking about it as a possibility now???

Unless I missed something, this is exactly what it seems like happened.
Well I also think some wannabe insiders on X are also posting about it. Two that I’ve seen have horrible track records.

So....

Boswell
Demin
White OR Ty
Hamdelicious
Ivisic

with DGL and maybe Moretti as guards off the bench, either White or Ty as wings off the bench, and Booth/Morez as bigs off the bench? Then Jakstys as our one redshirt?
I'm not sure why people think Rodgers will start? Tre White is not a great shooter, but Rodgers is a non existent shooter. He doesn't even take the shot. A guy that will at least make you guard him on the perimeter that can still get to the hoop and rebound is clearly the superior player. Also White is a much better FT shooter.

Anyone else concerned by that 3 spot?

We're talking about basketball, but also the transition from guys coming here and our guys going there. The basketball part is the mindless part.

Assuming that an 18 year old is going to be able to come here and his #1 concern, initially, is basketball is just just flat out shortsighted. The basketball transition and the new world transition go hand in hand. One doesn't work without the other.

Okay, yeah. I mean I've just not seen this... I don't know. I'm assuming he is going to come over and be just fine from the get-go, yes. But, also I think assuming a projected lotto pick is going to fail based on maybe some homesickness or what have you is just hyperbolic devil's advocate stuff.

If anyone else has a better plan than bringing in a top 10 pick lmk 🤷‍♂️

One is struck with the unpleasant sense that we know it's college but we don't know it's us.
