hard pass on Mongo mike - fun to root for, but a third year guy who imo needs another year with fletch to contribute meaningfully/consistently

We’re a tournament team with the guys we have right now.
It's a wide range of potential outcomes as it stands.

A number of load-bearing pieces (particularly DGL, Ty, Booth, White, and Morez) where a 90th percentile outcome is a stud, and a 40th percentile outcome is not someone who is making a contribution toward winning high-major basketball.

Whereas Domask, Guerrier, TSJ, Coleman to an extent, those were guys with really high floors who we knew we could count on winning contributions from. Ty is a little like that, Humdinger is a little like that, but that's not the character of this next roster generally.

It's just going to be a high-talent, low-experience team by design that's going to be reliant on the right traits emerging from players who haven't shown them yet. But a high floor 15ppg scorer type who can be trusted to soak up offensive usage would go a long long way to making the probabilities look friendlier. (As opposed to Demin who only enhanced the boom or bust factor)

If we could play Ty at the 1, we can play Coleman at the 2. I wonder how that would work? haha

What we can say clearly at this stage is that we have been completely bamboozled by the market price of talent in this market. We've done a creative but still incomplete job of finding value in sneakier ways, but we've been unable or unwilling to pay the revealed market value of a host of players where we thought we'd elbowed out other suitors.
Not sure completely bamboozled is that clear. I think you have been right in your general opinion that no amount of money guarantees anything in this highest bid market. I go back to something else you have been saying that I agree with, that for every player that goes, that is money off the table for the next guy. I'm sure we were surprised, maybe even amazed at what some players have been able to get..but I like our strategy of grabbing some multi year guys early to raise the floor. Grabbing Boswell was a big win. Grabbing our Croatian center is a big win. Passing on a couple of big targets that we thought were overpriced may yet prove to be a win

“We’re gonna have so much money since we went on an Elite 8 run”

“If we want Maddox, he’ll come”

“Money isn’t an issue”

“So where do we stand with Storr?”

“Coleman isn’t transferring”

“He isn’t worth that money”

Feels like people just get on here and post stuff for likes sometimes.. dudes on here act like we’re gonna win the Natty regardless so let’s just find a cheaper way to do it. lol

If TSJ was in the portal right now he’d want big money and we’d say no “he’s not worth that”

Not sure how serious we are about Monsanto from Wake Forest, but my oldest daughter is a recent grad from there. I have been to a bunch of games as it is super easy to get tickets and I live in NC. He was injured for a large portion of last year, but when he played over the last 2 years, he regularly shot the lights out. He is definitely more of a catch and shoot guy, and he is streaky, but I watched him drop 6-7 treys per game on multiple occasions. Not an "Alpha" type guy but was often their leading scorer. Can't really comment on his defense because at Wake Forest, defense was usually optional. Steve Forbes (appears, at least) to be of the mind of just outscoring the other team. When their shots were falling, they could beat anyone, when they didn't fall......

Kid appeared to be an EDG as best I could tell. He was pretty chill and well liked on campus per my daughter. Take that for whatever it's worth.

Feel like this adventure of trying to find scoring wing has been like Charlie Brown kicking the football.. Hear about a top of the line target.. miss.. better target to replace him.. another miss.. wash rinse repeat

Won't give up hope yet but confidence is falling

Thankful that at the very least we have what looks to be a 7-10 seed range team, which is hopefully our absolute floor in the BU era unlike the previous two eras

Any school trying to get Demin has to buy out his Real Madrid contract in addition to paying him NIL which is where this $2 Mil number is coming from perhaps

I don't agree with a 7-10. I think we are at minimum a 5-6. Hope is a good thing. At least we still have it.

I feel like we have gone from "we're never going to be able to recruit the real top guys because they will go to higher profile programs" to "we're never going to get the real top guys because we aren't willing to spend what other schools are".

Does anyone know for sure how much he will be getting? If he's asking 2 mil and we offered 1 it could be 1.2. Just sayin.

yet to be determined on bubble team, talent wise I personally think we are better than a bubble team.. but saying this is a massive failure is a massive overstatement:
1) We were set up to lose a lot because of all the seniors - can't blame that on this offseason
2) Personally I like the way we added pieces early to raise the floor - really needed to with only 2 returning...but I think overall we have raised the floor from where we would have been if we hadn't lost anyone we expected to lose (TJ/Coleman/Guerrier/Harmon/Domask)
3) Boswell & Tomislav are grade A pickups, making this class without hindsight look better than last seasons portal class; with hindsight we have yet to see if we hit the surprise HR we hit with Domask
4)Davis/Booth/Hummer/White are all intriguing & outside of Hummer they all have multiple years of eligibility to maybe carry over
5)Replacing TJ was always going to be tough to impossible task, but honestly at this point last year we didn't think we had him either & I'm sure we will add someone in his place...the question is how close will he be to TJ's production & t
6)Not sure if you count it in this offseason, but we are also bring in MR. basketball

Without hindsight, I'm not sure at this point last year we would have felt much better about the roster - yet we made it to an elite 8...patience Jedi
Last year, when TSJ went out, it seemed to me that we began to execute team ball better with each game. Sometimes even kinda reminded me of the 17-pass game in 2005. When TSJ came back, it seemed to me we lost a lot of that - less motion, less guys getting open, less passes to open guys, etc. Not gone, but definitely less. So if the new guys are all not TSJ's but still very good, and if they can play team ball like BU got them to play last year (big if), then it seems there is a lot to look forward to next year, with the roster as it is. JMVHO.

We have been hearing about an alpha for many weeks now. Is the alpha already on the team or is there a better player coming? Who on the current roster is the one who will be called upon to get a bucket to win a game? That can create their own shot against elite level competition?

This is not meant to be an argumentative post. Real questions that I have because I don't know the answers.

Kinda like the current housing market you have to over bid, by a lot. So, you either find a cheaper house or really over bid everybody else. Egor, IMO, is not worth overbidding that much. Storr might have been but he has his own risk, too. I think the thing with NIL is although it's somebody else's money, you don't want to piss that somebody else off by over paying too much.

Replacing TSJ and Marcus was impossible task. Just like replacing Ayo and Kofi was impossible. We may not win BT or make elite 8 next year but with current 6 portal transfers I am confident we will finish to upper 1/3 of B10, make NCAA and hopefully make 2nd weekend.
