James Brown, who finished ranked as the #113 recruit in the ‘24 class, eleven spots ahead of our own Jason Jakstys.
Still signed w/ UNC
Am afraid that young man peaked to early and then stagnated.

Let's be real: OA was not a reason that led to Riley coming here. He came here just because he'll get PT and our "backcourt sux"...not because of OA...

That's how you can tell Illinois is not a blue blood. If we were, the fan bases that lose recruiting battels to us would do so with quiet acceptance, instead of weird justifications. I saw a UK fan on a message board say, "He will be at Illinois this year. He will be at Kentucky next year."

When people start to say things like "Illinois is Illinois, they get who they want.", we can talk.

This may already be happening in the B1G. You'll never hear a current BB say it, but I am sure there are plenty of schools hate seeing our staff on the road these days.

Imagine the salt when Lexington native Jasper Johnson commits to the Illini(his dad played football at Kentucky).

Not to mention, more than several years in a row of very high level recruiting. If we can pull in 5 stars every single off-season roughly for the next 5 years, then at least we can be considered "Blue Blood lite".

But it's gonna take some time. Fortunately we are trending upward, no doubt.
Let's combine that with a sponsor for our new Canadian recruit. The marketing opportunities are endless...

Edit for the record, we are not yet a blue blood. Long way to go.

After watching numerous Riley highlight videos how could you not be impressed. This kids arsenal of moves left his defenders shaking their heads. He can score in every way at 6'9,will be a matchup nightmare and maybe teams scoring leader.By the big 10 season the national media will be singing fighting Illini praises. Not meant as response to above.

Hoping he can be as good as the last really good, highly ranked player to come out of Canada, Jamal Murray. He's even ranked right about the same as Murray was coming out of high school (~10-11). He turned out to be pretty good for Kentucky, and obviously he's had a stellar NBA career so far.

We have as much raw talent as we've ever had on this team. While we have a great deal of raw talent, we do not have a lot of experienced players. I think we may go through some early season growing pains due to our youth, limited time most of our team has spent working together as a group, and the monster schedule we've got early on. My prediction is that we finish the season as the 4 or 5 seed that no one wants to see in their quadrant of the bracket. If that's how things go this year, I'll be more than happy. Any margin that we can finish over these sorts of expectations would be gravy from my perspective. Regardless, I haven't been this excited to see an Illini basketball team take the court in quite some time.
