I suppose I too can get used to rooting for laundry as opposed to rooting for a mediocre or bad team with personalities that we've known for 3 or 4 years.I still don't like the overall direction that college hoops has headed........

I was sad to see Amani go because he seemed to have size and skill set to be a good (albeit slightly undersized) 5. Nice outside shot but his athleticism was only average. Not great jumper or shot blocker. Slow foot speed. Very worrisome he had back problems as a freshman. That does not bode well. Hopefully he can overcome them and have a good career at WV.
Brad is going for shooter/athlete types across the board. He wants to run and gun like NBA. Amani did not want to stay and compete for minutes. That was his choice. I doubt Brad creaned him.

I must confess that I don't understand posters like this. Do you wish to moderate this board so only people with irrationally positive views post?
I mean--it's a fact that RayJ was a huge miss last year. Luckily, plan C (or D) of using Domask worked out better than anyone, including the Illinois coaching staff, expected. And all credit to the staff for figuring that out midseason and making the needed changes on the fly. That appears to be one of their best skills--the ability to adapt and change tactics as needed.

I’m not a fan of this rhetoric because it seems pretty obvious that he came to Illinois ready and willing to bide his time and earn his minutes. The stage was set for him to have a much larger role in this coming year and then his lead recruiter left for a different job and and he followed him to that school. To me, it’s pretty obvious why he transferred and it has absolutely nothing to do with not wanting to compete for minutes.
I'm not disputing the fact RayJ was a big miss at the time. Storr, Maddux & Denim were also misses. But it doesn't matter. Recruiting isn't about who you miss, it's about who you end up with. Certain posters seemed absolutely hellbent on highlighting AJ Storr, Donte Maddux & Denim and labeled this recruiting cycle as a failure because we whiffed on them. Those 3 names couldn't be more irrelevant to us now. We ended up with Kasparas Jakucionis & Will Riley.

There were a couple of games where I saw Armani's future potential. He was a gamer regardless of the circumstances. Possibly the coaches weren't as optimistic or had concerns, but I thought he was on the path of more playing time. Especially with his developoing 3 point shot and tough inside game.

This is not meant to crap on Amani. BEFORE there was smoke that he may leave I was VERY concerned about his back issue. He missed months last year with that injury and those don’t magically go away. Trust me.
I was not big on counting on a guy with an injury that tends to be chronic. As always, jmho.
He found a nice spot for himself, and we have a really good roster with a very high ceiling. Everybody wins.

Soooooooo…… let me get this straight…. You don’t understand posters that that want to moderate the board? I am not sure that was the intent of the poster. I personally hope that the only posts about how great of a poster FrankNitty is happen. That doesn’t mean I will moderate that to happen. One can hope something without actively trying to moderate the board.
Buuuutttttt……. You tried to moderate your “facts” even though quite a few people, me being one of them, that did not feel like Ray-J was a huge miss.

And I don't know what to say if you don't think RayJ was a huge miss... Which is to be expected--nobody is going to bat 1.000. There will always be misses.

At the time, big miss. In hindsight, meh miss.
We had the #1 rated offensive efficiency for much of the season without him, we made it further in the tournament than he did, and finish higher up in KenPom than him.
I’d argue SH’s redshirt hurt us more than missing out on Ray-J. Could’ve used his defense in a few games last year.
