Looking for an insider opinion or from someone who knows. Does anyone shoot a jump shot anymore or has every young kid evolved back to shooting push shots off the floor, relying on quick release rather than elevation, in the style of JJ Reddick?

Back in the day, I learned to shoot a jumper releasing from max elevation beginning in about 4th grade. By the time I was a senior, no one under 6' 5" could guard that shot without fouling. My Dad told me after my first team game in 5th grade that if I could not hit half my shots, I was hurting my team. My coach, prior to my senior year told me he never wanted me to shoot....unless I thought I was going to make the shot. So I practiced shots from everywhere on the local playgrounds for years until I as confident and had the green light...hitting 54% my sr. year.

But today, it seems everyone is copying Curry...and admittedly that is not bad. Is there a reason or common opinion among coaches as to which they prefer. Seems Will Riley shoots a jumper but the Wagler kid even shoots a push shot in the lane. Thoughts?

We don’t lead for Evans … I was told it’s essentially a done deal he’s going to Tennessee … But crazier things have happened … We’ve got O and O is super connected with his people … That’s the reason for the visit and they’re going to give us a shot … Xavier took a guy over him otherwise that’s where he was going to wind up …

As for Lee … I’ve been told by a certain staff member (I think we all know who) from the second he got back that Lee was a done deal … Seton Hall just offered … Shaheen actually coached his brother at St. Peter’s so there’s a connection there but nothing like the connection O has … If we want him (which we do) … Lee is ours …

No visit after all …

Will Riley vs Ben Humrichous as 6-9 wing/forward scorer/playmakers may just be the anecdotal comparison we all need. I'm eager to see if the 5 star youngin' will outplay the unranked 5th year senior xfer this season. They're both likely only here one season, so which one will bring more value to the team?

EDIT: Or, maybe more appropriately, we can one day compare the college careers (value to their college program) of Will Riley and, say, Ty Rodgers when they're both done.
I am cautious not predicting any 1 and dones!! I am sure Illinois will have a 1 and done, maybe soon but it is hard to be believe we will have two 1 and dones the same year after having zero in Illinois history.

Indy Illini Fan: 1. With Wagler committing, and Lee predicted to be committing, would the Illini take a commitment from another guard, Furphy, in the Class of 2025? 2. Where do you think Illinois stands with Furphy? What teams are ahead of Illinois (at the moment) in his recruitment? Do you think Illinois has a decent chance in the Furphy recruitment?
