I was thinking the same thing about the brothers.
It's not as simple as this. Just to name the biggest example, we would have loved to have CoHawk back this year. But not at the price he wanted in NIL money. Don't get me wrong. I would love to get back as many key players from this team as possible, but if other teams are willing to way overpay to get certain members of our supporting cast after this season, our budget may not allow us to keep them and keep a competitive team on the floor.Yeah, I've harped on this before so, apologies if I sound like a broken record. But it's not about assuming everyone comes back. It's about doing the things within your power as a coaching staff to bring as many back as you can (so long as you actually want them back) because continuity is like compound interest on an investment.
Coaches have a ton of influence over whether a player transfers or not. So, there's no reason to think they won't use that influence to try to get guys to run back what is shaping up to be a special year.
For sure. Some things are out of their control. There will be attrition. But it's not unreasonable to expect us to return a solid group of players from this year's team - say 60% of our minutes. We tend to have a skewed idea of what continuity is. But college basketball is littered with rosters who have stayed together for multiple years. We had one such roster just last year. It's not as simple as this. Just to name the biggest example, we would have loved to have CoHawk back this year. But not at the price he wanted in NIL money. Our NIL budget is good, but it isn't infinite. There will be some really good players who will want to come on board next season, and so Brad will have to weigh the value of returning players and their NIL demands against what he can get in the portal. Our staff has generally done really well at this, so for me, the prospect of roster turnover isn't foreboding. It's exciting to see how our staff will wheel and deal to makes sure that we get to enjoy the best basketball team the Illini can be, just like Brad and Co. did last year and the year before.
Yeah, the self-appointed topic police
are one of the more ridiculous recurrent themes on this site. IMO it always comes across as either:
Wow, what an entitled, self-important grump (1) or wow, what a hypocrite. (2)
Type 1: You realize there is a finite amount of ‘ cruitin’ news involving Illini Sports right? Is it really that hard to filter out things you don’t like? It’s a free site. It takes a lot of nerve and a fair amount of entitlement to complain about a free site…does it not? We’ve literally had people complain about having to scroll 10-15 seconds or some such thing…!!
Also, if the lag in pertinent information drives you bonkers…do you have anything to offer to the discussion?
Type 2: Seriously everybody is guilty of going off topic…like everyone. It’s impossible to even make a post complaining about going off topic…without going off topic yourself.
Then what happens is: three or four other grumps like it/high five about it/and make additional tangential posts about it…and hijack the thread with little to no, awareness or sense of irony of what they have just done.
Seems more like a Calipari move to try and throw money at Tomi to get him to transfer to Arkansas. Although, Big Z has to see how much more fun and success his brother is having at Illinois. I have no doubt Brad would find a way to utilize Big Z more efficiently.Just my opinion and belief.
I heard Tomi during an interview speaking about always playing with his twin and being on the same team since their youth and adjusting period for both these last two years was difficult.
Toni said that they call and even try to face time daily. Big Z loves coach O, Tomi said Z told him to come to Illinois because O is a great big man coach and person.
It is just my belief that Z transfers to play with Tomi and O.
What are we going to do w/ 2 7 footers and MorezSeems more like a Calipari move to try and throw money at Tomi to get him to transfer to Arkansas. Any insight on how Morez camp is feeling right now? IIRC, they were kinda one foot out of the door with TA leaving and PT issues? Thanks for any info! What are we going to do w/ 2 7 footers and Morez
What's the word on Morez coming back? It seems like there was a mini freak-out on this board about him transferring a couple weeks ago due to not getting PT and something about the damage already having been done. Things better now? What are we going to do w/ 2 7 footers and Morez

I always thought it was Two Quarts Low, but then I saw it as Two Cuties Low and I can never unsee that.I love it!
I've always felt that Two Quarts Low was a perfect name for a country rock band but it is clear to me now that it is an even nicer quantity of lager or ale!

All I said is Brad could get more out of Big Z then Calipari...which is 8 pts and 5 rebounds a game in his second year. What are we going to do w/ 2 7 footers and Morez
In 2000, one of the liquor stores in Urbana had returnable bottles of Old Style that was super cheap. Economical, sustainable, and hipster as f*$%. What more could you ask for?View attachment 38590
$3.29 a case of returnable long necks, back (way back!) in the day...
I think he said damage was created but not a word about gone. Am I right?I think Indy had implied Morez was already gone
Did Calipari not recruit Tomi or did we just beat him out?Just my opinion and belief.

You are right. There is still a distance between that and gone but see what happened to illini players who didn't shoot 3pt the last few seasons... Personally, I am more old school. I can take good defense center no problem (even NBA still does that these days.)I thought it was implied, ie "Brad knows damage is already done" etcetera.
Tennessee post-game thread, I believe.
