I would agree with you for the most part, however, I would consider the Matt Meyer time a bad year also. Illinois just making the field of 64 is not success, it is expected.

It was understandable that we would lose the continuity that we had coming out of last season, with 4 grad students and a senior being most of our minutes. But with everyone being eligible to come back (understanding quite a few won't), retention is the key to winning next season. You cannot return Kylan and Tomi alone out of this roster. Get old and stay old doesn't work if you have 100% turnover for 2 straight years

We need a big like Trey Kaufman Renn or another banger besides Rez. I love Rez and Tomi but just 2 bigs isn't enough. When one us out or in foul trouble we are screwed.
I've said it before. Chase Walker of ISU would be a great addition next season. We'd probably have a lot of competition for his signature though.

We have got to bring back Kylan, Tomi, and Morez. That is your core for next year.

When people keep talking about whether Underwood should stay or go, I look at the fact that 2 of the last 3 seasons that saw major roster turnover were disappointments. If we have major roster overhaul again next season, why should I think next year will not also be a disappointment? The good season in between saw Shannon return and step into a different stratosphere.

I don't think any of Boswell, Ivisic, or Morez will step up to the AA level, but we can't just bring in a whole new roster and expect to perform. Maybe if we had a major upgrade in the coaching staff we'll perform better, but if we bring back this same staff and expect history is not going to repeat itself, well, I have concerns with that.
I agree. I do believe that we are one of the top 5 youngest teams in the country, if not THE youngest teams. People will relax. Let's beat Iowa.

We start a 5th year senior, two veteran juniors, and a 21 year old sophomore. We start only 1 freshman, which is TWO fewer than Duke starts. We bring 3 sophomores off the bench, including one who was an ACC starter last year.

We aren't close to young. Strangers to one another? Yes, that. Lacking in other ways? Yep. But young? Nope. Dead wrong.

That is always true. Fight, or lose.

Somehow, our coach lost sight of the most basic element of all in competitive sports. Skill never overcomes heart.

There are multiple levels of recruiting these days: portal, international, high school.

The portal is deathly quiet now (good). There was a cryptic hint about a big international recruitment a week or so ago (which I believe, understandably, won't be revealed for weeks yet).

Fall high school recruiting seemed not to be of much interest to our staff: we have two guys who may come in, in the sub-100 range. Those are the kind of guys that sometimes stick around and sometimes blossom into terrific college players, after 2-3 years.

Within 5 weeks or considerably less, recruiting (and retention) will be the thing that matters here. Tick, tick, tick ...

I think it's kind of a no-brainer that DGL leaves. IL will undoubtedly recruit over him, or at least try to, which I don't blame IL for doing. I just think that DGL's game is better suited to a mid-level program where he can be a starter and showcase his skills. Don't see him as an NBA or even G League player, but if he wants to earn a living playing pro ball (overseas obviously) he needs to showcase his talents night in/out with a lesser team.

As an aside, didn't see the presser/remarks about wanting to bring 'Dogs' in next year..... uhhhh duh.... We have/had them, they are either gone or red-shirted this year. If that comment is indeed true, I find it to be very concerning.

the idea of Rez not coming back next year peels back some layers of concern and begs the question " WTF is going on here "..

you got a HS soph who pledges to the Illini and professes his love for the Illini and after one year as an Illini he's going
to bolt on us ????.... that makes zero sense and please don't use TA as the main reason for it.........my thought could be the misuse of possibly the player with the biggest motor and drive on a team full of passive-aggressive bi-polar hesitation personalities......

I suggest starting Morez from day 1 would have better results as far as seasonal and conference records right now......

BU wasted a valuable weapon in Rezilla languishing on the bench at a lot of late game situations with a defeat possibly turned into a victory.....

Granted that MOREZ brought some of this upon himself with foul problems , but by starting him day 1 he would have matured quicker and as now the foul problems would have not been as big an issue........I would have started Morez over Ben or Tre and not looked back on that decision........

If BU has been starting players based on NIL $$$ then my confidence in him is less than whatever little I have even now........

I expect MAJOR changes for next season........hopefully Morez as an ILLINI stays the same for his entire college career......Rezilla , to me is our most important player on our roster to retain........we play our best with him on the court for 30 + minutes.....

heal up Rezilla.....we need you big time........we really really do..........
