He used to play at Ball State, would pair perfectly with Dix

Somehow I think we need to incorporate an Oregon State comment into this equation…

If Tomi leaves too might as well accept that Illinois won’t even be in the tournament next season unless they get big time players in the portal.

We lost Kofi to the draft but he didn't stick and K9fi likely left a couple million in NIL on the table since he left early plus a covid year than he made in Japan. It's only a good thing fir Tomi if he can be drafted to get in the first round otherwise NIL pays better. There's a reason Dickenson and Timme came back and its likely Tomi should too.

Wow, I see some bans coming about. Louisville, name the poster! Cut and paste the DM! Let them defend themselves. If there's one type of person I really dislike it is someone who will not stand and voice their opinion to the masses. If you truly believe what you say then you should be willing to defend your stance to anyone. I DO NOT CARE if TU or Hamer stay on staff, but there better be assistants brought on staff that they will answer to and work UNDER.... no, not Brad UNDERwood. I get the players looking for bid$, this is what it has become, it's happening across the entirety of the NCAA. I love Morez, but i do NOT expect him to go elsewhere (who said Duke, seriously???) and light it up, I expect at best a DD 'progression', if that even. Tre White? Okay, he said the right things after our last game, but reneged on that. Go find your dream school! Perhaps 4th time is the charm! DGL, was always a bench/energy guy, I never expected more than that. If he leaves, I hope he drops to a mid-major and thrives! Ben, I don't know what to think here outside of if he's back, he's a bench 3 point specialist, until he isn't, then he sits.... Davis, role player, stay and get better. Kylan and Tomi, stay and prosper. Tomi, convince your bro to come back you up, and then take your spot after you get drafted next year! KJ and WR, I wish you the best in the NBA, represent Illinois well! I hope Jakstys is able to contribute some minutes next yeard, dude sat, did what was asked, and should be given an opportunity (early on at least) to show out. Freshmen, listen, learn, mature physically, to be ready in year 2. That's all I got! I think I covered everything. Goodnight!

All I can say is I have never seen in-game or after halftime adjustments with Underwoods teams. And I mean both Underwoods. Josh Whitman needs to intervene right now to get rid of Tyler Underwood and Hamer

How many 5 star recruits does Matt Painter have on his roster. He's a believer in system recruits and development. Our fans here would want to DESTROY Brad if he didn't bring in a top 15 class with NBA prospects.

Izzo does the same thing. You don't see MSU chasing one and dones. He's a system guy that is only interested in guys who commit to the program and not the NBA after one year.

Our fans wouldn't accept that style of recruiting. This off-season is a great example. Here we are again with our main targets who want to be drafted in a year. What do you expect is going to happen?

How many players off of Purdue are going to be drafted? They'll be back for year four because they committed to the program, not the NBA.

Our fans would absolutely lose their minds with an off-season like that. They have coaches that don't believe in the portal and lean on development.

That's not us. We're chasing Dame Sarr and are trying to come up with 7 figures to bring other transfers in.
And with chasing one and done's, it's feast or famine as freshman from game to game. Anyone remember Emoni Bates? Of course we played volatile from game to game. Looked outstanding and looked horrible. Inconsistency come with youth. Experienced players have developed that over time.

This is such an apologist post for Brad. And no, the fanbase is not to blame for him not being able to retain his players. If he was able to retain and develop his recruits - Miller, Curbelo, RJ, Podz, Goode, Epps, Clark, Morez, etc like Painter did then he didn’t have to bring in guys like Plummer, Domask, Guerrier with limited eligibility.

Don’t even get started on MSU. They’re able to recruit higher ranked prospects AND able to retain them.
Izzo. Enough said! Has tons of respect for Brad.

Yes, the current NIL environment seems to have a runaway financial feature to it like the historical Tulip Mania Event (look it up on Google.) Eventually the prices should level or crash, but not for a good while.

We only want 1st round draft picks, or players who will portal after 1 year here...... so probably not a good fit anyways. ;)

So here's my thing. I don't like and have never been that comfortable with the nepotism thing vis a vis Tyler. However, the problem is that he was allowed to be given that job in the first place. JW did not veto it. He should have (particularly after what went on with Lovie). But he didn't.

I get that people don't like the nepotism, but Tyler is in charge of the offense and the offense has been good. So what's the basis for firing him? That he's the coaches son? OK, fine, but you knew that when you hired him. This would be like hiring someone without a college degree, they do everything asked of them, then two years later you fire them for not having a college degree and now you have decided that should have been a qualification of that job from the start.

So in that case, should we be blaming JW?
I think the biggest thing for me is how is Tyler perceived as a manager of the players? Sure he can be excellent at the Xs and Os, but if he is helping to run a team and the team is not on board with him due to personality conflicts, backstabbing (not saying this is the case), tearing people down, etc. then you create an environment that starts to become hostile.

People management is Management 101. If I had a boss that was technically skilled but a really crappy person/manager, I would look to move as well. Then you add in the nepotism thing and it becomes a final nail in the coffin. The portal era has leveled the playing field for players to move when put into a hostile environment. If I had a competing offer from a similar school and the assistant coach was crappy, I’d seriously consider jumping ship too.

Imagine if Bobby Knight had to deal with it. He would have probably have complete roster turnover every year.

Please note this is what I’m perceiving based on the information that appears to be out there.

I’m sure JW is well aware of all that’s going on, so I expect that things will be changing. Unfortunately, things like these can take time, even though in the portal era time is truly of the essence.
