Really, we supposedly had Storr locked down then Kansas came calling. Demin was in the bag and then BYU threw a bag of cash at him. Luckily Brad and the staff pivoted and found good alternatives. I'm not saying we can't land good players. Just saying it's hard for us to compete for the best of the best. To not acknowledge that is asinine.

I believe Michigan was his first choice. Not sure. If I am not mistaken, there were some admission problems. I hope Tomi comes back. Hate to lose him to Arkansas. That would be tough.

Tomi to Arkansas? Where'd that come from, did I miss something?

because Michigan wouldn't let him into school?

We got extremely luck there, and I think Terrence did too. I'm not sure if he'd be in the NBA if Juwan was his coach.

This is why I'm surprised people talk about our financial strength when we clearly keep losing to Michigan on transfers, who supposedly spends less than we do.

I mean Juwan couldn't coach but his guys got drafted. Other than Hunter.... ha

Not holding my breath on any major pickups. Probably a couple of nice pickups not game changers. I believe BU will make the team competitive again with an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Just not seeing it with some of these schools willing to payout up to $15 million on a roster.

We will likely have a top 10ish budget in the country going into next year, not the case at all.

Nobody at TSJ Kofi Ayo or Deron as college all americans coming out of HS or transfer portal.

I am excited about how Kylan, Tomas, Morez and Tre develop in off season. They all improved significantly during the season.

I would love to add a high ceiling X factor like Sarr or an upper classman guard like Marcus (dream) Alphonso or Justin. We need a backup in case Kylan goes down. We do have 2 freshman guards coming in so maybe that is enough. I would take Ben Jake DGL and Ty back if they wanted to return and had reasonable $NIL. Ben's defense and rebounding improved significantly last 10 games.

The "Get Old Stay Old" worked well on elite 8 run. Lets really execute it. 3 freshman - Sarr, Lee and Wagler. Lets get some SRS/ GRAD transfers.

Sure wish we had some news from INDY

Lol this thread...

"Tomi is gonna transfer to Arkansas"

Same guy, very next post re: Z coming to Illinois:

"that's just baseless speculation "
If you are referring to my post, read it again. If not, no problem. I did not say that Tomi was going to Arkansas. I stated that I hope he does not. I also said that it would be good if Z came here. My hope is that Tomi stays. I don't trust the rumor mill until we know that the dotted line has been signed.

Michigan rejected him.

I do agree though. We have the money to get big fish. Both TSJ and Mayer were big fish that first year.

No doubt, but we also landed Mayer that offseason. We all know how that turned out, but it was a BIG portal win at the time.
Honestly Mayer would have been a stud here if we didn't completely strike out by going entirely with freshman guards who flopped forcing Mayer to be the primary ballhandler. He didn't adapt as well as Domask did but watching Domask grow from game to game acting as a point guard is one of the most impressive things I've seen at the college level.

That team would be viewed a lot differently if they had a good veteran point guard. Mayer, TSJ, and Coleman was a solid enough core but they got basically no help.

If he were to come back and take a role, very similar to what he had at the end of the year(at a reduced salary), he'd be a perfect fit. You need those guys to win. Not many teams can have your 7th or 8th guy he 6'9" and versatile. Now, he can't be used as the backup 4 or 5. That was on Brad though for not having any backup bigs. Ben had no chance defensively.

Not sure he would accept that role, but it would be a perfect match.

We really need to capitalize on KJ’s success this year with other International recruits (e.g.Sarr)

KJ is projected as a lottery pick after one year at Illinois which dramatically improved his draft stock- he’s now projected to go ahead of several players he was well behind in the eyes of the NBA

KJ has now passed:

Demin- who spent a year at BYU
Hugo Gonzales- stayed in Europe
Nolan Traore- stayed in Europe

If that is not the best commercial for going to Illinois I don’t know what is- players have gone to Arizona and UCLA in years past and killed their draft stock, we should be a go to destination for International players after this year
Are you saying that he development under our coaching staff? That would squash a lot of narratives..

I was being literal with Damonte.

I dont see how a guy who has taken one 3PA across 3 years is going to drastically feel better on the perimeter, particularly after a year not playing in a game.

If you're telling me he's taking DGLs minutes, sure.
POTD. That's exactly right. You don't just go from a guy that never looked at the rim from more than 7 feet out to being a confident and effective perimeter player, who is even a marginal threat to consider defensively. His form might be better, his mechanics might be better, but after a year of non competitive basketball......if you're Brad and staff, you can't gamble outside of committing to him that he will have a role, but the role would be centered around toughness, leadership, effort, rebounding and defense. Anything after that that he gives his gravy.

I don't think that Ty is going to accept that type of role with only two years of eligibility left. He would be a HUGE addition if he took that role on and embraced it because he'd be a critical piece to team success, but if he did.....he'd basically be admitting that he really has no plans to pursue an NBA career, but his focus would be Turkey, China or an assistant coaching job.

That works be hugely mature and self aware, but you don't see many 20/21 year olds in that head space when other coaches will be promising him more.

I believe Morez can and will expand his game. One reason I feel this way is I felt he improved at the line as the season progressed. He looked much more comfortable, took a deep breath, closed is eyes and the shot seemed to go in later in the year a little more often and looked better. Now do I expect Rez pulling up from three? No I do not nor do I want him to. All of the guys need to play to thier strengths. Brad knows what those are and I'm sure wants them to play to them. They can work on other aspects in practice to improve different phases which I believe Rez can do. I feel that he can improve a little jump hook or a bit of a midrange game like Reece at Maryland has over the past few years. I do think Rez will improve each season he is in CU on both ends of the court but there needs to be reasonable expectations.
I feel one area we need to improve is finding a big bodied post defender that is hard to move and can protect the rim. Some fairly skilled 275lb or so big guy to come off the bench. Could help vs teams like Purdue, Maryland and others with bangers in the post.
Even if Rez hits 30 % from three, on any given play do you want him taking that shot, or another 30% shooter taking it while Rez sets up under the basket for a put back.?
