If Brad Underwood plays Morez as much as he should have played, none of this happens. Period. That is on the coaching and staff. Anyone else arguing otherwise needs to wake up.

Why should players show loyalty when coaches and programs don't, especially a program who has shown they will never hesitate to replace incumbents if they think they can "upgrade". Future promises be damned-those are just words. What would inhibit Brad from treating Morez's playing time the exact same way in '25/'26 as he did this szn?

Morez was insulted by Ben playing over him. That (plus the bag he is about to get) is ultimately what drove him away. And I don't fault him 0%, as much as it sucks and as awesome as I know he is going to be at his next stop.

Who's got the Tylenol?
I do not believe outside of the cash that a quality coach is going to promise Morez a specific role regardless and play then if they feel another player shows more in practice and ot gives them a better chance to win. Now Brad maybe should have played Will or Rez (who was often in foul trouble and struggled to shoot) . He probably should have played Will a lot more and Rez too. However, there are no guarantees other coaches won't try to recruit over or won't play someone they may ir may not have on the roster where ever he goes. Likely the main thing that may help him do that is teams only have so much $$ to spend on power forwards that may or may not be able to shoot. That is what Rez wants to try to become to get to the next level.i also don't know how many coaches are going to give him the green light to shoot even if they say they will now. I highly doubt that happens. Other guys are better shooters on any good team with defined roles.

I will point out Dainja's stats, minutes played, we're better than Tomi's and Morez. Plus. He played against Mizzou, UNLV, Auburn, MICHIGAN st. , Uconn, Ole Miss, Miss St. Your right friend, Free throw 57%..
We sure as heck could have used him but Daddy and Son probably would have had him only playing 15 minutes per game and yanking him. Big boy played 27 mpg. He would have filled a huge hole in our lane. But our staff is obsessed with 5 out, 35 3's per game.
It was hard to watch this year and I have loved the Illini since childhood in the 80s.

I mean I wouldn’t even pay $1 million for Dix let alone 2 … Sandfort isn’t good enough to play here … He’s essentially Davis but taller … That’s not a shot at Davis we just don’t need more than one of those guys …

Who would I go get if I could pick and knowing what we’ve got NIL wise …

I mean the possibilities are endless but here’s some guys I’d really consider:

Keyshawn Hall … Ryan Conwell … Devin Askew … Dame Sarr … Reed Bailey … Big Z …

Add those 6 to pair with Tomi, Tre, Davis, Bam, Jakstys, Lee, and Wagler …
9 points/game, 40% 3pt shooter; can make open threes - simple, but what this team seriously lacked this past season. I'd take him in a bench role (unless some absurd price tag).

My 5 year old bumped into a parked Tesla on her bike 3 houses down and they guy came over several hours later acting like he was going to charge me to buff out his door, (which was not damaged), then never came back.

Weirdest interaction I've ever had with a neighbor.

I think dad's point re: Kofi & Dain isn't that they weren't successful at Illinois... its that they aren't in the league because we didn't have them shooting 18 footers and 3 pointers... but those guys mid-range and threes did not see any uptick after leaving Illinois...

Whole situation sucks
I really don't believe this is particularly about shooting 3s for Dain and Kofi. It is more about development and utilizing other skills they have. I never believed that any coaching given to these guys was about improving their skills to play at the next level. Seemed to be more about just winning at all costs

Well… it is a team sport. The goal is to win as a team.

Dad specifically mentions mid range shots. Go back and read his comments again. You are correct it's about improving their skills- with those specific skills being that Morez wants to play more on the perimeter.

If he is going to get $2M to go somewhere and be a perimeter big, then good for him.

Dix at $2 million is insane, a terrible allocation of resources, and all but caps next year’s ceiling a heck of a lot lower than any of us would like.
1) They have a a TON of money available-they can afford to add Dix and bring in a couple of other big time guys along with some depth,
2) Josh Dix would be an amazing fit next to Kylan and Tomi.
3) Fat from a done deal, Kansas and Illinois neck and neck right now.

To me, losing Podz bc he wasn't "good enough to play" was a miss. Losing Morez, who was one of the more exciting and dynamic players on the team for nearly the same reason is malpractice and setting a pattern. (I.e. not letting these kids just play free and loose, or getting enough play time) I hate it. Morez, who my kids affectionately named "Big Baby" due to his side ponies was a fault favorite this year. I'm super bummed, and in combination with another underwhelming season, the possibility of the staff not getting retooled, and having constant roster turnover, I'm just about done with the BU Era. (And I love the guy)
We are all entitled to opinions

However, Brad has multiple Big Ten championships, constantly makes tourney, an elite 8 appearance, and consistently ranked in the top 25 kenpom. Not saying prior coaches should be a benchmark but Bruce and Groce were far far worse (Weber more towards the end). Be careful what we wish for as the grass isn’t always greener though sometimes is!

I find it challenging to hear at one time, Morez was offered a lot of money, we're in a bidding war for Sarr, but then also we've got tons of money, we can definitely throw $2 million at a specialist.

This day and age there isn't a coach anywhere who is worried much about getting a kid to the nba. They are trying to figure how to win and get more NIL money.

I do appreciate you giving us some of this info. Wouldn't Conwell (if Illini have a chance) be a better pick up than Dix?

Why is this challenging? Those in the know have said expect $6 million to be the floor needed this year to field a top 25 team. But even if you have that or more you still have to budget your money correctly.
