I don't think Brad is the main problem. There is quite a bit of proof from past players that Brad is a great coach. I think the issue is more related to the current group of assistant coaches and the amount of money being tossed around in the portal.
If that's what you believe, then who is responsible for the Assistant Coaches? Who has ultimate responsibility for the continual turnover? Not all schools have this problem to the degree we do

I... I don't have a Seinfeld gif for this.

Louisville, USC, Illinois and ..... Do these guys even take courses??? The guy is not a potential pro player (just a good college player) so why not stay at Illinois, play BB and try and get a degree from Illinois??

You said it yourself. Tre White isn’t an NBA player. So he needs to maximize each of his 4 college years to make the most money possible each possible season, and that would involve going to the open market each year.

As far as a degree, I’m not sure how any college awards a degree if you been at 4 in 4 years. I think every college requires you to complete at least 60 hours to be awarded a degree. These 4 colleges in 4 years guys can’t be getting degrees in the end

as could have been predicted from a mile away beforehand, BU promoting his son to an AC position on his staff is causing problems.

love JW, but ultimately this falls on him. shouldn’t have let it happen
Good point. Especially after he just went through it with Lovie.

I'm sure Brad got a longer leash to make a move like this considering where the program was when he got here missing the tourney an unheard of four straight years. Sure JW wanted to keep Brad happy.

Note I know nothing about what is going on, so I have trust y'all's opinions of this.

This I actually buy.

The publicly available NIL budget data for P4 basketball school is around $3.2M. And average P4 player NIL is around $200K. I have a hard time buying that someone is throw $1.8M at Morez AND let him play on the perimeter.

In addition, there were a lot of excuses being made that we lost players in the past because of NIL $$, yet all of those guys went to non P4 schools or P4 schools with smaller revenue sharing budget.

I don’t believe Illinois lost players over the years with $$ being the deciding factor in most cases.

I am not hearing anything about Will Riley. He seemed to have a fairly long leash.

This board is moronic. What’s being thrown around is nowhere near the truth. People running with twitter rumors and making up their own to justify their feelings. It’s crazy. Morez SIGNED a new NIL deal late February. 900k….his dad continued to negotiate behind Illinois back and got “offers” in the 2 mil range for Morez. Great. Go get your 2 mil. Don’t throw coaches and former players under the bus to try and make it look like that’s why you’re leaving. Sorry they didn’t let your son shoot 3’s and run the offense through I’m like they did Tomi when that’s not his game. Kylan and Tomi have always been priority 1a and 1b this offseason. They would’ve loved to have Tre back with him being the 6th ish guy off the bench. He didn’t like that whatever it is what it is. That being said Illini0440 out. Good luck everyone. Can’t take the dumba$$ posts on here from people who have no idea what’s actually going on and need to make something up to validate their feelings towards things.

✌🏻
Don't leave the sh*t show. Its all fun and games.

It has nothing to do with performance … Tyler needs to find another job or he should be fired …

And the offense wasn’t good this year … I don’t care what the analytics say …

Last year any coach could've finished with a top 5 offense with that team …
It seems about the amount of time that the son moves out from under his father and moves to a smaller school as a HC, and take his friend along to be his top assistant.

Whether good or bad at his job (I don't think he's as bad as the D coordinator) , its seems about the time to move on for his career

If someone is not a culture fit and causing problems … You remove them, even if they’re good at what they do …

It’s really not that insane … It’s that no one person is bigger than the team/program/company … Whatever example you want to give …

And in this case it just so happens to be the coaches son who has done nothing to deserve the position he’s in, so it just adds fuel to the fire for many …
Agree, this is not HS sports, with NIL and everything being added, this is big business. You don't cut it, you are gone. Its how it is in real life, good lesson that they all get used to.

Assume...I think you are kidding yourselves if you think Tyler wasn't selected by Brad rather than some search committee. How much more immediate can it be than hiring your son for a 6 figure job working directly under you. Lol

One reason we struggle to retain players in NIL world is that there seems to be a systematic refusal to embrace the possibility of PAYING players based on growth into larger and more expanded roles on the team than what they've previously shown.

Already two days ago we've got the insiders talking about Dame Sarr plus two more "big additions". It's always been that way, it's always a mindset of let's lock in what we have while saving as much as we can for volume additions.

Don't the players and the program have a common interest in Morez being more than a 900k value? White being more than a 6th man as a senior?

Whoa whoa whoa, what's with this forward thinking?

Maybe fans should just boycott and sit out a year. See how far this crap goes without fan cash flow . I always thought players were entitled to money to help with everyday expenses but never envisioned this nightmare scenario.

Finally an insider with actual ball knowledge. The idea that Morez was leaving because Humrichhous played over him was the biggest load of bs I’ve ever heard. Morez could be a fine player but he wasn’t ready for a huge role as a freshman. Just because he listened to former players who are salty they were bad and had limited roles doesn’t mean anything about the state of the program

Well, the university already has a nepotism policy which, I assume, was followed here:

Hiring an immediate family member within the same unit through a non-competitive or conflicted search process is strongly discouraged, and the hire might not be approved by the appropriate HR office.
“Strongly discouraged”. “might not be approved”. You can drive a truck through the holes in that policy.
