That’s because St John doesn’t have NIL money like bigger schools. Illinois has plenty of NIL, state of the Art brand new basketball facilities and in the Big Ten conference

Xavier Booker for Sparty was the #13 high school player (RSCI) coming out of high school in 2023. He was a McDonalds player in 2023. Higher rated than Morez J. He has played sparingly for Michigan State the last two years. Around 11 minutes a game. So how does Izzo keep players like Booker while Brad sees them transfer out?

Whether Tyler is the next John Wooden or not doesnt matter. Hiring your kids causes drama. Theres a policy that clearly only applies to most but not big wigs like BU. . My only issue with Whitman is the University has a weak policy against hiring your own family and allowed it. Whether Tyler does great or not isnt the point. Hiring family very often causes drama. At this level it is a major conflict of interests regardless of job performance it can cause issues. Clearly it is whether justified or not. That policy someone listed is a joke. Either you can or can't hire your own son to a 6 figure job. Why have a policy at all if it only applies to some.

This board is moronic. What’s being thrown around is nowhere near the truth. People running with twitter rumors and making up their own to justify their feelings. It’s crazy. Morez SIGNED a new NIL deal late February. 900k….his dad continued to negotiate behind Illinois back and got “offers” in the 2 mil range for Morez. Great. Go get your 2 mil. Don’t throw coaches and former players under the bus to try and make it look like that’s why you’re leaving. Sorry they didn’t let your son shoot 3’s and run the offense through I’m like they did Tomi when that’s not his game. Kylan and Tomi have always been priority 1a and 1b this offseason. They would’ve loved to have Tre back with him being the 6th ish guy off the bench. He didn’t like that whatever it is what it is. That being said Illini0440 out. Good luck everyone. Can’t take the dumba$$ posts on here from people who have no idea what’s actually going on and need to make something up to validate their feelings towards things.

✌🏻
No. Ignore the morons. We need your inside information. That is the only reason i joined.

When threads get out of control, Dan usually shuts them down at the start of a new month/week/day.

This one might need hourly cleanup.

Or maybe we just shut this topic down indefinitely. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have been an Illini fan for 20+ years and I am an alum but this off season drama every year is starting to really wear me out. I’m starting to be convinced, the university of Illinois basketball program is just not destined to have nice things. Henson brings us to national powerhouse status and the Deon Thomas situation occurs, then Lon Kruger comes and rights the ship only to leave for a terrible NBA job, then Bill Self elevates the program but UNCs dumpster fire dominos to affect our program for the next 15+ years then we get underwood who takes us to an elite 8 but hires his son, pisses off one of the most plugged in assistants in. Chicago and now can’t keep a roster for longer than 1 season. Did I miss anything? Exhausting.
Kind of like the nightly news…turn it off for a while you’ll feel better

I think it's placed on both and most people want Hamer gone very badly.

But go watch UConn's, Nebraska, Iowa, Purdue, Texas Tech, BYU, Florida, Gonzaga, or Alabama and legitimately watch how their offensives flow and move and tell me that you think Illinois is a well coached offensive team.

Yeah they have graded out well by the metrics but that's because they have had a ton of talent that last two years. Also, offensive efficiency doesn't necessarily tell the entire story when you light up teams like Iowa for 100+ points but struggle when you play teams that actually play physical defense. Plus, your offense is super volatile and puts you in position to lose games you have no business losing.

Metrics are great and can add a lot of context to why things work but you still need to watch games and other teams play to have the entire picture despite what the consultant class of this country may think.

If you gave Fred Hoiberg this Illinois roster this year he would have had the best offense in the country. Why is anyone excited about the 15th best offense with this roster? You had two extremely talented lottery pick type talents in KJ and Riley, an extremely skilled 7 footer that you can run your offense through and a ton of capable role players in Boswell, White, Morez, DGL, and Humrichous. The one thing they did very well was offensive rebound and basically all of Brad's teams have done that so I'm not going to credit Tyler.

Auburn has the 3rd best offense in the country and I don't know if they have a single NBA player. Like this Illini offense should have been a top 5ish offense, 15 is underselling the talent they had.
What!?!? You don’t think Auburn has a SINGLE NBA player?

That is one heck of a hot take.

I'm going to be taking a break as well. Got a nasty dm from someone in here that put it over the top. We will be fine, I'll see ya'll in a bit.
That’s disappointing someone would do that. I really appreciate the insight you’ve given over the years. I have a pretty strong difference opinion on what is happening now, but no one should have shown you anything but the utmost respect.

That’s ridiculous. I can’t believe that happened to you. People are getting mad at you for just reporting what is said to you?? That’s a joke people.

Lol is it? Broome isn't an NBA big. Chad Baker Mazara is a 25 year old college senior. Neither Kelly or Jones are on draft boards but maybe they could develop in the g league(I like Jones a lot tbh).

Pettiford has had a great freshman year but he's a 5'11 guard(he is not his listed 6'1) so there is an extremely high bar for being an NBA player at that height.

Ahh so the dude is just not ready for high level basketball. Citing his per 40 numbers for a freshman big who couldn’t stay on the floor does nothing for me. Morez is good and I have never disputed that but getting mad because a shooter played over him at the 4 position is incredibly dumb and short sided. A non shooter who fouls frequently is not the best fit as a starting 4 on a winning basketball team with a legit center. You might have ball knowledge, but you never show it on this site

If big donors close their wallets then they lose access to the program. And make no mistake, that’s what it’s all about for them. They stop shelling out the money and their egos suffer.

How many DI basketball programs are there 362 or so? How many transfers are there in the portal already or will there be? We are not alone by a long shot and there are players available. ILL!
