Wow…. Gave us a little strawman, threw in a little Ad Hominem, and maybe just a touch of false dilemma. All in like 30 words. Impressive.

Anyone else think that Morez will get less NIL money after next season and portal again?
Hope he gets it all up front next year, because a lot of bags come up light at the end of the year. Now that would s*ck, especially if his bag was 900K light and he transferred to a sh*t program

If Morez thinks he can shoot, his free throw % doesn't lend confidence. ...
This is the class of post that I find frustrating to read because although it is clearly made in good faith, as a bought-in Illini fan, it kinda contradicts what I think we would hope to see from players on the team. I am NOT picking on you, specifically, so if it reads that way, I apologize.

Onward: why is it, to me at least, frustrating? Because a coach always wants to coach guys that believe they can be better.

Suggesting that a guy should accept his (current) limitations is not, ever, something a good coach wants to engage in.

Should kids be realisitic about where they are right now? Yes, of course, and that is part of the art of coaching: getting kids to accept that they are not gonna help the team by launching jumpers right now, while still leaving the kid with the core belief that, next year, you'll be contributing in more ways than you are this season.

From my perspective, this is the heart of the muddle with Morez. Signals that may have been sent may not have been received. Outstanding coaches make sure signals are received.

Last thing I will say before I head out for a bit-the Humrichous Morez thing is hilarious. Several power 4 schools were heavy in pursuit on Ben. I don't blame Brad for playing him a bit considering how much he paid him and how the dude shot in practice leading up to the season. Still was one of our best 3 point shooters and played decent defense down the stretch. No, I am not Ben's biggest fan. But Morez played a crap ton for a freshman big on a team that had a stud center. They did everything they could to get him back the last week and it still wasn't enough. Lastly, Hamer needs to go, but the Tyler thing is a complete cop out and a huge sham.
The normal fans here have no issues with the info you share. It’s the extremes that cause the issues for everyone in life. Don’t let the minority keep you from being you. We appreciate you and the others that share what they are hearing!

Is that correct? Each of the last 3ish years has seen exponential growth (and to think, I actually know what that exp word means), but is this truly a very large increase in the number of transfers? That's an honest question.

Yep, not the most logically consistent Tweet I've ever read, not to mention all encompassing to an extreme.

If we had actually succeeded in giving him (or his folks) what he wanted, he'd still be in Orange and Blue. Somewhere, the offer (money, minutes, developmental plan, trust etc.) came up short.

I tend to agree with this … I was fine with Tyler in his director of scouting role or whatever it was … That was fine by me and I think many here …

I wasn’t and I don’t think many were fine with the promotion to Assistant Coach and the promotion to Offensive Coordinator … And I don’t like seeing Brad only talk to Tyler all game …

Just as I wasn’t fine with Lovie hiring Miles for LBs coach …
Frankly, nepotism will always have a stink to it. I do not want to hear from anyone about the KenPom offenses the last few years.

Ultimately it is going to rub people the wrong way especially when he has no prior experience at the high major level. The discourse coming out about the players and Tyler is very real and it should be addressed.

To reiterate many others points, if we want to be a top 10 program we need to act like one. A coaching bench filled with Tyler Underwood, Kwa and Hamer is unacceptable and even more so we have objective proof that it is unacceptable.

If this is the hill Brad wants to die on, he will. JW is too pragmatic to allow this to continue. I trust Indy and others on here that conversations are being had and remedies to the coaching bench will be adjusted accordingly.

This portal is FILLED with great, old players and I expect them to reload in all facets of the program. I-L-L

Sorry to Lville for getting nasty messages grow up guys.

But all I can say is with 1000% certainty Tyler rubs guys on the team the wrong way and that is putting it lightly.
First, this is a tough post that would benefit from the addition of some empathy. I think that in general (not YOUR post, KingWolf) that Lville should be treated better, and aggressive dms are certainly not what anyone here should have to deal with. That said, I also think Lville, like 0440, is a tad thin-skinned for the online world (which won't be changed no matter the many reprimands or sermons).

Second, the situation with the Illini staff is an issue for sure: the appearance of favoritism is, according to the world I have been in, favoritism. It is very risky to have family involved in a situation like the Illinois coaching staff, and because of that risk, it should be assiduously avoided. Somehow, this was allowed to develop.

I have been watching Illinois basketball for almost 60 years and what has happened to college basketball is a tragedy. What happened to universities understanding they are there for education. It is just insanity paying a college player millions of dollars. I don't blame players leaving to get more, anyone would do that, it is the system that is totally broken. So basically, every year you are trying to buy a championship. Obviously, the schools with big donors have a huge advantage and have changed the competitive landscape. Small universities have no chance anymore. Following players is useless because they are most likely to leave after a year if they can get a higher payday. I am also not a big fan of Underwood either, but I don't blame him for players leaving. I am sure most players, if they got what they wanted in money, would stay. I don't think Underwood will ever get us to a National Championship. If you watch the top ten college teams you see they run more consistently, better offense and defense. than Illinois. Underwood is a step in the right direction but like Doug Collins we need a Phil Jackson to take us to the next level. If it was me, I would throw the bank at Self trying to get him back. Underwood hiring his son and telling fans that he does not care what anyone thinks is not a coach that is going to take you to the next level. Any knowledgeable fan knows you can't have a point guard be a turnover machine and if he was such a good coach why didn't he fix it. I am sure Josh sees this as well and I am pretty sure winning a National Championship is important to him but at this time firing Underwood would be difficult because there are really few coaches out there that would make a difference. I only hope Josh and the other Athletic Director can find some solutions to this portal system so College basketball can be enjoyable again.

Who got them that high to begin with? Who did we play in those 10 or so games while the other guys rallied around their fallen teammate, etc? Such a small sample size.

If you mention Weber or Groce I can’t take you seriously. Groce hasn’t been the Illinois basketball coach in 9 years and Bruce Weber hasn’t been the University of Illinois Head Men’s basketball coach in 13 years. Brad Underwood fanboys keep crapping on Weber and Groce if it makes you feel better even though Weber Got the University of Illinois to a National Championship Game, A Final 4 , Elite 8 , 2 sweet 16s and 2 Big Ten Championships . In your pretzel logic Brad Underwood can do no wrong. Brad’s record at Illinois is not better than Weber’s record at Illinois

Do you all remember last year? We were SURE certain players were coming. One even received the secret handshake in a hotel room and went elsewhere. Then we started signing a bunch of midmajors that no one had heard of. Plus, a player that had bounced around from team to team. Guys began leaving in droves. One even went to Bloomington ... ugh,

By May, we were all pulling what was left of our hair out, wondering what the heck was going on. I mean, weren't we big game hunting for when guys dropped out before the NBA draft? We didn't sign any of them.

I was convinced Kylan might be the only Big Ten-level player transferring in.

Then, three guys appeared and saved the day.

My point is that this will probably look like the wheels are coming off when we sign some head scratches and miss on other sure things. But someway, somehow we'll put a team together, and come June, we'll all be dreaming of a Final Four.
Bro inFla.

Correct you are. We IIlini hoopster buffs need to settle down, have a beer. take the wife out to dinner

As of Thursday there are all ready 1100 players in the transfer portal. The Illini will get their three or four transfers.
