Just like last year I’m seeing top Transfer Portal players coming off the board committing to other schools and Illinois as of April 1st has 0 transfer portal commits. Matt Painter and Purdue even had a transfer portal commit
This is a WILD complaint.

Last year we ended up with a top 10 recruiting class (top 20 transfer) with 2 projected first round picks who committed in late May/early June.

My concern is that prices only tend to go up as teams become more desperate towards the end of the portal season.

Our first portal commit last year was Davis on 4/1.
That’s my point . We’re not getting the top talent from The Transfer Portal. Jake Davis is a role player at best. Last year we didn’t get our top targets from the transfer portal and it cost us. We can’t have Transfer portal players like Ben Humrichous , Carey Booth and Jake Davis and expect to be a championship basketball team . That’s not going to cut it. Illinois needs top talent

But more and more players will continue to enter.

You get a rush of portal entries at the beginning as seasons end, more will come as the coaching carousel spins, and more will come after getting draft feedback and electing to return to school.

It’s a little bit of both though. Once major players spend their NIL, they’ll have less to offer fringe guys.

I feel the same way about most FA cycles in sports: target the guys you need early, overpay if you truly believe them to be indispensable. Shop the bargain bin to fill out your roster as time goes on. CBB is no different.

Dude I’m not on here to have an argument with you. If you Think Carey Booth and Tre White who are now both gone and Ben Humrichous , Jake Davis was a good Transfer portal class than I don’t know what to tell you. Kylan Boswell is the only Transfer Portal commit from last season that worked out. Tomi , Morez , KJ , Will Riley are considered incoming freshman. I speaking strictly Transfer Portal.

Yaxel comp is....Saint Thomas? A lot of similarities there, but Yaxel is doing his on a better team than Thomas last year (Northern Colorado).

Makes a lot of sense for a guy who has spent the entirety of his time since entering the portal trying to troll the program. Really liked him as a player and I don't fault him for transferring, if he's going to get paid better and for someone who will let him play the way he wants to play then good for him, but he could have handled this all way better. Haven't seen anything like this from a player who left since Mark Smith.
Also a Mr. Basketball Illinois. Pattern?

Very likely your 6th man next season unless something changes, the staff loves this kid.

I feel good about four different guys right now. Not gif time yet, but nearing it with a couple.

I know that the Euro's were technically later adds.. But isn't it entirely possible they elected to pass on some of the higher priority transfers because they knew they had Tomi, KJ, and Will as viable options that most likely cost less than the likes of Storr?

Their priority has been and should be retention before massive transfer adds.

Does this mean Sarr starts from day one (hope so). A lineup of:

- Bam
- Sarr
- Dix
- 4-Man TBD (Yaxel would be insane here.)
- Tomi

With Big Z, Sellers, Wagler/Lee, and 3-pt specialist/backup PG TBD. Good team right there.

I'd hope we won't do with Sarr what we did with Riley... have him off the bench for Ben H.

Elite stat line for Yaxel in an UAB OT loss to UC Irvine, sounds like one to definitely get involved in.

17/11/4 with 3.5 stocks on plus efg% and ft% on the season has perhaps been accomplished a handfull of times since assists became a statistic. Like, this is triple crown type s***.
