Are you able to share what type of role they would see for him? Based on who we are targeting, it would seem like Rodgers wouldn't necessarily be in the starting lineup. Is he a backup guard? Wing?

The thing is, I'm not sure that TY believes this. At least based on the redshirt this year, and the smoke that he will transfer because of concerns about his role. But @Indy Illini Fan indicated there's more of a chance he stays now - maybe Brad and the staff can convince him to stay and fight for his role/minutes - if so we'll see how that plays out I guess. I'm certainly rooting for him.People liked this post so much the last time I said it, so I'll say it again.
Even if Brad Underwood himself believes and pencils in Ty as a bench player, Ty will be a starter.
In the heat of the moment, the guys who can guard will play.
This … Think Justin Harmon role …
This dude started in the Big 12 … He’s coming off the bench here …
He has some TSJ in him…imoMuch better than Harmon imo. Way more athletic.
Indy and Lville are MVPs, but Sharpshot is doing God's work as well. Nice!I'll say it
Back was feeling good mid season and he wanted to sit out to preserve eligibility.
But that being said, we have fletch and you've seen what he's done for guys like Skyy and TJ. Wouldn't worry about it.
Took me a minute... 'Justin Harmon, who's that?' It's getting harder to remember our one-year rent-a-players, which is partially age related, but still...This … Think Justin Harmon role …

and just for context, his "production expectation" will be much less than ben last offseason (and we know how that turned out). He'll be the sixth man type option. For his role (and $$), he doesn't have to be spectacular for a fine ROI
Yes to all, and I'd never trash him personally nor tell him to turn down the money. But by the same token, please don't expect me to like or follow him anymore. (That's in general, not to you, Second.) He'd be hard-pressed to pick a better location for me to instantly dislike him.I think he's a good kid that's getting terrible direction. If it's 100% money driven, cool. Nobody is going to leave a million bucks on the table. Over a three year stretch, he'll be set up well.
All things (money) being equal, if he's truly bent on being on a team that's going to give him that type of role and the keys to the car to shoot freely and he can't come through..... he'll have painted himself into a corner.
Again, all things being equal, he should have stick around and grown naturally in an environment he knew. He would have started next year and he would have had a bigger role and one of the more senior/seasoned guys.
All things not being equal and if he's banking an additional cool, crisp mil a year.....take the money and set yourself up in a better spot financially. Can't blame a guy for that. We all would have done the same thing..
It'll be interesting!
I'll never forget him because of his interesting role in the Shannon caseTook me a minute... 'Justin Harmon, who's that?' It's getting harder to remember our one-year rent-a-players, which is partially age related, but still...

Which is exactly what everyone said when our first commit last portal season was the below "we have all the money on earth" expectations Tre White who then started 30+ games this year.If Sellers is the 6th best player on a team, you are going to be damn good.

Better than Harmon for sure. Similar performance from Harmon in the WAC vs Sellers in the Big XII. But then of course the book on Harmon when he took what insiders told us was a precious and richly resourced spot on what seemed to be a dwindling number of scholarships was that he was happy coming to be a towel waver for his home state school and barely play.Much better than Harmon imo. Way more athletic.
Now THAT comparison I like. Definitely bigger. But.....couldn't we just keep DGL for much less money? To me I see a bigger bodied, veteran version of...DGL

didn't just start - averaged 16/game in the big 12 which was the best conference in the country (**last season**).This … Think Justin Harmon role …

I was thinking more like a smaller version of TSJ- very similar skill set, great in transition and on dribble handoffs and step back threes but not the guy to start the offense and you don’t want him shooting a lot off the dribble mid range- just get to the rim and force the defense to stop youTo me I see a bigger bodied, veteran version of the role DGL played. Energy, athlete, could score in bunches if needed. But more of a bench/role player than a sure-fire starter.

Dix is going to Indiana
I don't think Illinois is recruiting Jaylin Sellers to come off the bench. JMO.
I thought I read that he would be very good defensively, similar to KB possibly? In addition to a new defensive coach, they need players who like to play defense. We'll see. He'll be the sixth man type option. For his role (and $$), he doesn't have to be spectacular for a fine ROI
Assuming you get Sellers/Sarr, it'll come down to one of those two guys for the last starting spot most likely.I don't think Illinois is recruiting Jaylin Sellers to come off the bench. JMO.
Dix will also be in there, but i'd assume he'd be well established in terms of starting. that scoring ability is pretty potent.Assuming you get Sellers/Sarr, it'll come down to one of those two guys for the last starting spot most likely.
