I'm not super convinced by Sellers to be totally honest. A bit of an empty calories chucker.
He only really had a down year from 3 as a junior. He has been effective from 2 every year, is a good free throw shooter, and shot 45% from 3 on 4 attempts per game as a sophomore (44% on less volume as a freshman).

More importantly though he's a big strong guard that is a quality athlete.

Imo, I want all 3 of Pierre, Sarr, and Sellers. They all add a ton of size on the perimeter and strength/athleticism that was sorely missed this year. I would ecstatic if you could afford to add Keshawn Hall and Big Z to that trio though I don't know if that would be realistic.

Boswell, Pierre, Sarr, Hall, Tomi plus Sellers and Big Z off the bench(or mix and match however you like) is a national championship contending top 7 imo. You would be able to switch 1-4(1-5 with Z), have plenty of shooting, and a ton of guys that should score inside.

The thing is, I'm not sure that TY believes this. At least based on the redshirt this year, and the smoke that he will transfer because of concerns about his role. But @Indy Illini Fan indicated there's more of a chance he stays now - maybe Brad and the staff can convince him to stay and fight for his role/minutes - if so we'll see how that plays out I guess. I'm certainly rooting for him.
Ty was stuck behind two non 3 point shooters - Tre and Morez. Both are gone. Brad loves offensive rebounds. If you can't have Morez who as a freak then Ty is next best thing. Hopefully Ty spent off season working on his jump shot so he can at least make short range jumpers like Tre. Given that Tomas hangs out at top of somebody like Ty would be nice running mate.

Should Morez commit to Michigan, I fear they’d utilize him as an interior presence almost exclusively. Don’t get me wrong, I won’t be cheering for him. But, I also won’t be hoping to see him fail.

I’d be curious to see his role there especially if Danny Wolf returns for 1 more season. I get the sense there’s empty promises from Michigan here.

Go Illini
I think the majority of schools would utilize him as an interior presence, which he will realize once he commits.

Morez list looks like a group of schools that have tons of money. Michigan/Ohio State/Tennessee all huge football $$$$. Morez looking at Michigan wondering how much money would Dave Portnoy pay me…

Then you got Arkansas the highest paid team.

Then two blue bloods in Kansas/Kentucky that will pay.

This was clearly a $$$$$$ decision. If it’s about development and shooting 3s, I would expect Kentucky. Pope lets his big guys do quite a bit. If it were just wanting to go to the best team with best coach of Big men…Kansas. Although Self would likely keep him inside

Calipari if Morez doesn’t care about anything other than getting to the league

Assuming you get Sellers/Sarr, it'll come down to one of those two guys for the last starting spot most likely.
You mean Sellers/Sarr/Dix correct? If we just get Sellers/Sarr they both start IMO

If it’s the former, I think Sellers may start at the beginning of the year but Sarr will be starting before long- too much of a talent not to have him start, I think he’s even more ready than Will was this year

Now THAT comparison I like. Definitely bigger. But.....couldn't we just keep DGL for much less money
I gotta be honest, I've never understood the level of love DGL gets on here. Yes, he is very athletic and makes some truly fantastic plays on offense from time to time. But he never does so on a consistent basis, is undersized, a poor shooter, and an even worse defender. He's fine for the role he played this season, but clearly is not content with that role. I'm all for continuity, but he might be the rare instance where continuity provides negative value, as he'd almost certainly be frustrated again next season (and potentially play like he did down the stretch this year, which hurt us considerably).

Which is exactly what everyone said when our first commit last portal season was the below "we have all the money on earth" expectations Tre White who then started 30+ games this year.

It's really incredible how exactly everything is repeating.

Better than Harmon for sure. Similar performance from Harmon in the WAC vs Sellers in the Big XII. But then of course the book on Harmon when he took what insiders told us was a precious and richly resourced spot on what seemed to be a dwindling number of scholarships was that he was happy coming to be a towel waver for his home state school and barely play.

To be fair, you are assuming that it is repeating. It might be, but we don't know that for sure, yet.

Yeah his stat line at UCF is ugly. 30% from 3, only 1 assist per game. If you are a guard, play 30+ minutes a game, and can only get 1 assist a game you aren’t creating any offense for anyone else and he also had more turnovers than assists.

I like that he got to the FT line at a good rate. He doesn’t look like a Big 10 starter to me though if you want to be a good team. A chucker that shoots poorly isn’t very efficient player to have

Sellers had hand injury in 2023 that may have affected his 3% shooting -- hopefully it was not just moving to a high major.

Looks to me our starting five is trending towards Tommy, Boz, Dix, Sarr, and Sellers (if healthy).

I don't see our other likely transfer gets beating out those guys -- that is a powerful top-15 worthy starting 5
