Anyone remember the movie "Shallow Hal" with Jack Black and Gweneth Paltrow? I feel like Carey Booth is the chick in the movie who looks fat to me but is actually a supermodel. Am I the only person that feels like he's overmatched at this level? I don't see any of what you described above....
They're just talking about being physically gifted. Not the same thing as talent on a basketball court I don't think. He seems to have the least competitive drive of any player I've ever watched.

I have no problem with his attitude. My problem is that he's shown at every stop that he's not good enough at playing basketball.

Wagler and Lee get zero discussion here. What are their roles next year
That largely depends on how the rest of the roster fills out.

But IMO if either of them are playing any more than DGL played last year it would mean we probably failed in our portalling. More likely one of them gets minutes like DGL got his freshman year, the other will end up on the victory cigar lineup with AJ Redd.

Not at all, Booth was a higher rated recruit for a reason. His size/athleticism/skill profile is rare.

He's doing nothing to tap into that talent, but the talent is there.

Storr is a skinny, inefficient jump shooter who can't pass or guard. Guys like him are a dime a dozen.

Better =/= More talented

I'm banging this drum because of the implicit assumption that there's some superstar talent lurking in Storr. There really, really isn't. The more you play that guy, the more you are putting a ceiling on your team.

High school ratings are pretty meaningless more than a year or 2 out. Fact of the matter is Storr has produced at the P5 level which is why he got a bag from Kansas.

Is he in inefficient chucker? Maybe. But maybe in the right role or system you could unlock some of that production. And for the right price I might be willing to roll the dice.

To take another example: Quincy. Now by all accounts a great guy so no disparagement there, but he never matched the production at Oregon that he did at Cuse, probably because he wasn’t a fit in their system. He came here and had his best year shooting the ball and his per 40s were back in line with what he did at Cuse. And I bet we got him for a bargain too.

College BB is like any other job really. After about the first year no one cares about your pedigree it’s how you produce. And Storr does has shown he can produce.

Regarding Storr, let's remember that his offensive stats at Wisconsin were comparable (yes, Tonje's were better) to Tonje's at Wisconsin this season. Storr was a sophmore then and Tonje was a senior this year.... Idk what the asking price is, but if it's as favorable as what Indy hints at, it's a no brainer for me...

My opinion - he’d be successful as a second option …

I also don’t worry about him as a culture fit … Bam, Tomi, Ty … They’re the keepers of the culture …

Bam deserves a lot of credit for how he handled the Tre situation and keeping that kid engaged and getting his mind right … He’s a leader of men …

I trust Kylan and Ty to keep AJ focused and bought in … And hey if AJ doesn’t wanna buy in … That’s fine … 🍑 meet bench …
You could really tell Bam had taken over as the team leader by the time we got to the tournament.

We really need him to stay in that role.

You bring him in to prove it in practice … He knows this is his last shot to get it right …

Tre White didn’t exactly come with the greatest baggage … That turned out alright for us …

You roll the dice on a guy who’s from the state and is an 1st Team All Big Ten level dude …

But for those of us who didn’t watch KU this year, what happened with Storr.

My current theory is between Tonje, Storr, Davis, a Badger fan sold their soul to the devil. But I’m all ears if somebody has a better answer.

Maybe in the counting stats, but efficiency stats paint a very different picture.

Storr 23-24 - PER 19.7 | TS% 53% | BPM 4.9 | WS 3.2 | USG% 23.5%

Tonje 24-25 - PER 24.8 | TS% 65% | BPM 11 | WS 6.4 | USG% 28%

My source on the ground says there may be a recruit visiting today. Any insiders with more comprehensive intel on this?

Give me a break. Creating obvious culture problems for no reason, with a skillset that's extremely fungible in the portal.

It really isn't.
Lol, 6'6 guards with NBA athleticism that have scored 17 points per game as a sophomore in the Big10 absolutely do not grow on trees in the portal.

Especially ones that may be cheap enough you could get them and play them as a 7th or 8th man if they don't pan out.

If you could get something like Boswell, Dix/Sellers, Sarr, Ty, Tomi, Zvonimir, and Storr you would have a ton of size and athelicism and you would just be missing a bigger wing/4 that would ideally function somewhat similar to Guerrier.

I feel like "Eastern Bloc" twins could have ways to keep a guy in line.

Those guys were getting in bar fights against grown men in former Soviet states since they were 16...

I have great faith in BU and I want to believe that you're right and this is just agent chatter on the day Storr hits the portal.

Carey Booth is much more talented than Storr, but just kinda doesn't have the eye of the tiger. As someone who grew up inside the NBA world you wonder if he's just not in love with the game the way you have to be in order to make it.

I think its an issue of wording. Carey is an outstanding ATHLETE but in terms of basketball talent it's pretty slim. His skill set is very limited and he's not even particular good at his "stengths".
When I saw him play in '24 twice for ND in the span of a couple weeks in March he started, was a solid rebounder, and scored in double figures both times. He looked good for them against mid-level ACC competition. When, a month later, BU snagged him in the portal I was surprised but not shocked. Figured BU saw something there. What shocked me is that he did absolutely nothing for us this season.

And nonetheless had only the fourth most win shares on his own team that went 11-9 in conference because he doesn't do anything else

This is absolutely correct, and I'm being misinterpreted as saying Booth is BETTER than Storr, which he very clearly is not.

Tre White, on the other hand, is definitely better than Storr in addition to being much more talented.
I understand that he doesnt do much other than score and that doesnt help the win share much but i feel like this team we are building could use someone who can get their own shot, get downhill and get out in transition. He fits that. Id rather have Sarr, Dix, Sellers before him but if we miss on 1 or 2 i wouldnt mind taking him.

Yeah Tre is better overall in most catagories than Storr. I do think their roads are pretty similar as far as transfering and some baggage.

I agree that Booth has more upside and hope he can put the talent to the floor at his new spot.

I get hating the guy, but these posts are making me wonder if you've ever watched AJ Storr play basketball.

#221
At this point no matter what happens next season smart money says that at least one of them will transfer after next season. HS recruiting seems pointless to be honest.

Unless you can get a kid like Jaylen Mitchell …

I tend to agree …

There’s maybe 15-20 ish freshman that make a major, major impact …

If Wagler or Lee are getting serious minutes next year … Something has gone very, very wrong …

Regarding Storr, let's remember that his offensive stats at Wisconsin were comparable (yes, Tonje's were better) to Tonje's at Wisconsin this season.
Storr: 16.8 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 0.9 APG, 43% FG, 32% 3PT, 3.2 Win Shares (4th on his own team, not close to the top 10 of the 14 team B1G)

Tonje: 19.6 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 1.8 APG, 47% FG, 39% 3PT, 6.4 Win Shares (#1 in the 18 team B1G by half a win share)

Not comparable.

I get you; however, given our history with Storr and his treatment of us (Come here, come here, come here / Get away, get away, get away) I want nothing to do with him at this point. Kinda Matt Mayer bad chemistry vibes.
Matt Meyer has a National Championship ring. Matt was a goofball, but I'm not convinced he was the primary reason for the dysfunction of that team. Having malcontents, Epps, Clark, and our favorite internet troll all in the same locker room certainly contributed. Not to mention that team was wildly inexperienced, and not overly talented.
Matt as a punching bag is a bit over-played. I shudder to think how many games we would have won without him... probably not many.
