Last day to withdraw from the draft is June 15
Hopefully Will doesn't wait that long - as most have said, I think he's leaving and if he's getting first round feedback, it makes sense for him to go. The only way he comes back is if his measurables (doesn't have the wingspan or the vertical jump teams covet) impacts his stock enough where he gets feedback he's a round 1/2 possibly. In which case him coming back and being all conference and putting on a show could move him to the lottery next year and that would be well worth it financially and security with his team in the NBA, etc. for him to try to improve his stock. I do think he could be a lottery/mid first round next year being a featured guy in our offense for a full season

Sarr and Riley will not be on the same roster. You can bet your beach house on it
Hypothetically if Sarr were to commit and and Riley decided a few weeks later that he wanted to come back I would guess everything would be done to try and find that extra $ to make a run at Riley too. Unlikely? Sure...but not impossible. The argument for the additional $ is easier if you're saying it's for a proven high impact commodity who has already done it at the uni.

I like the way Dan opened this up. I would say Rez and Booth leaving the program were about right. Normally I don't have a problem kids leaving but there is a way to do it and Dra gave us a great example of that. Wish him the best!
I get where your coming from but Dan probably worded it that way because,

Rez and Booth have gone to other teams thus left the program. DGL an Tre haven't gone to another team yet so just entered the portal, technically they could come back (obviously not likely).

I don't think the issue is money (although it is unlikely that IL has enough). Those two wouldn't want to be on the same team.

We can certainly dream about it

If I'm a booster and I'm being told "Hey, we can add Will Riley coming back as the cherry on top. We just need some more money." I mean, if you have the means I'd imagine it would be hard not to contribute to that scenario. I'd buy NIL jerseys for the whole family if that helps!

No, it is likely would not play out like that if Illinois makes a commitment to Sarr. At some point, if Sarr doesn’t want to play with Riley then Riley will lose his opportunity to come back. This exact scenario happened with Illinois last year.

I'm just assuming that a 2nd year Riley would be better than a 1st year Sarr?

@LvilleILL1 @FI_8905
They're the same age and of roughly equivalent levels of experience and development, you should think of them being in the same "class" in that sense.

The Sarr profile feels more NBA-friendly to me, I might bet on his overall basketball career, but you know me, I love continuity, I'd take Riley if given the choice.

Riley should and will test the draft waters, I have no doubt. Which sets up a roster construction timeline problem, as it does for many teams every year.

Thanks for clarifying that

Good summary and I agree with your takes. I'll just add on Sarr, we likely won't have more of an in with an international player in a long time. Given his teammate and good friend just came to our program and became a projected lottery pick, what better sales pitch can you have than that. Even with Duke involved, it would raise questions on how Sarr will be used, they have the #1 recruiting class and will have at least 2-3 other kids who are trying to be lottery picks on that team. We won't have any other players trying to be lottery picks and we can put him in a position to succeed. We really need to take advantage of the year KJ had to attract international players and Sarr is the perfect one to do that with this coming season
I hope all of our players are trying to become lottery picks

I certainly don't - that's not conducive to winning basketball. You need players that will do anything the team needs to win and we certainly have some of those guys. Sometimes the two things line up - Will was a good example of that - we needed him to take over games and show the other team can't guard him and be aggressive, same thing with KJ at times - them being aggressive was what helped the team win and also improved their draft stock

But we can't have a guy like Morez saying he wants to show his perimeter game and shoot threes, when that isn't the best for the team. Roster construction is so important to get guys that are comfortable with their role and can succeed in it - if the team is winning it makes everyone look good, but you need everyone to buy into that - everyone can't be a lottery pick, but players willing to help their teammates be successful and help them shine is what you need. Kylan is a perfect example of that IMO

Insiders-- Anything new to report on Ben and Jake? They kind of in a wait and see mode type of deal?

Said it a few days ago and I'll say it again... I'm in... Great "buy low" opportunity
What’s the most NIL dollars you’d spend on him? Say you have $6m in total NIL to dole out.
