Yeah, it sounds like every school everywhere - NIL has been very opaque intentionally, you only hear about it when players complain they didn’t get what was promised. I’m sure if you tried to add up what they are paid for every endorsement or appearance it’s not anywhere close to what the total is they are paid by the collective because it’s straight money from donors and the NIL rules don’t forbid that

The University "shrugs off rules?" What rules? Isn't that the issue? The problem does not reside at the Universities; like most, it is an NCAA problem, full stop. Another clueless "reporter" excusing the corrupt institution (NCAA) and blaming the victims. And a Michigan grad, to boot. Wonder if she was as concerned about scUM's football scandalS?

I believe that was in reference to the Illinois state law. Either way, just seemed like a lot of work to say "this happens everywhere".

Except the article mentions that other Big Ten programs have reported significantly more NIL deals.

I'm not that concerned about the lack of reporting on its own. But I do wonder what the "why" is here, given that other programs are more compliant. Is this a red flag for something else going on? No idea. Also, I've been thinking for a while the NCAA will eventually decide to try and make an example of someone for how they do NIL. Did we just make ourselves a target?

Is it the Sellers and Z camps that are dragging their feet or the Illini ?

Can you give your opinions on why ?

I know all thought we would have word on a couple in the last few days but nothing yet.

I know sometimes it seems like people don't appreciate your comments but more do than don't by a landslide , Thank you both !

I believe you are correct. Add the State of IL as a corrupt institution to my comment. The law requires the athletes to report their earnings to the University (most likely a pure tax collecting effort) but provides no consequence for not doing so. It does not require the University to report that info; it only limits the University's rights to control these deals. It does permit a University to hire a third party to track the info, and that is where the article's primary source, NIL consultant Bill Carter, comes in to also lay blame on the University. The article is slanted to make the University out to be the bad guy. That's what the Chicago press has always done, and will likely always do. Which is weird, because they are products of these ultra-liberal institutions and normally defend and protect them at all cost.

One WR announces one way or the other other dominoes will fall into place…..I think
I agree I think he is sort of the key it sounds like at least with a player like Sarr. It seems almost impossible to see a way WR comes back, yet with his age and the real potential of going from say 17-25 range to a lotto? I don’t know you would have to do the math on if it makes sense from his stand point? I guess it is possible? Or I sure would like to dream it is lol

Not an insider, but I do know that admissions can cause a tiny delay in just making sure everything is squared away before formally announcing the commitment. Would not shock me in the least if both guys already committed but the staff was making sure all ducks were in a row before making it public.
