The NIL has made college basketball a monster. They are paying kids coming in to play and most freshman will sit most of the year then transfer because Brad has decided they don't fit his style of play. [Poor evaluating of players] The NIL has blown up rosters year after year with kids jumping here and there looking for a better deal. No one wants to stay more than a year. Then the coach has all new players that have never met, so I have absolutely no confidence Brad can get all the new players to jell period. I don't think this year's team ever really came together and played like a TEAM. College basketball needs to go back to recruiting High School kids and make it mandatory they must stay for at least 2 years or forfeit a scholarship to another school. If the college kids want to transfer than make them set out a season! This is another MONEY GRAB!

While he will be hard to get as blue bloods are circling, and maybe a bit of a gamble, but one of my top gets right now would be Elyjah Freeman. Heck, sweeten the deal by bringing his coach with him (Jeremiah Samarrippas.)

In theory, sure, but Tomi stayed and played another whole season as a pro in the Balkans.

The NCAA ruling that he was eligible, but as a sophomore, was unprecedented as far as I know.

And it begs the question, uh.... is it open season on just buying any European pro with less than four years experience?
And worth noting that even the two years they overlapped, Tomi played significantly more than Z. In his last season there, Z played 18 ABA games at 9.0 min per.

Tomi played 25 games at 16.8 minutes that season, and then averaged over 15 min a game again during his brother's Freshman year in college. He ended up playing 69 games over 3 seasons, averaging 15.2 minutes a game. It really does raise the question of where the NCAA will draw the line.

I mean, right now he would clearly be a starter and we don't appear to be close to anyone else, so that is a bid odd given the Dix decision
He was a "Plan A" sixth man, not a "Plan A" starter. As far as us "not being close" to anyone else, It's April 4th... The tournament isn't even over yet.

You sell the guy on the role you want him for, don't let him think he's going to start and immediately work on recruiting over him.

For me, the question isn't so much looking for more KJ's (college freshman-aged stud prospects emerging from European youth teams), but looking for more Ivisic's (experienced European professionals who are - for whatever reason - NCAA-eligible)

I still kinda don't understand how Tomi got eligibility so cleanly last year. But we should push that envelope absolutely as far as it can go.
wouldn't call it "cleanly" there was a whole process that ended with him being randomly declared a Sophomore and having to make a payment to charity to account for his professional experience (no idea how that works). Seems more like the NCAA just having no idea what to do about anything anymore.

Love the off season.. why? because we never get our #1, #2 or #3 option.. Curious to see if we get any of our top 3 this year.. Glad we have football this year because not looking forward to another 6-7 seed next year in the tournament at best because we won't be competing for championships but headlines instead...

The thing about those back channel conversations is other programs are having them too, and then when the bidding war begins we aren't the only ones throwing in money.

I do think this notion of us as top-10 in NIL deserves some skepticism though.
If it's mostly about money these days, and we have more money than 95% of other programs, shouldn't we be hitting on our Plan A guys with a little higher frequency?

Bingo! Starting to feel like we are more in that 15-20 range in NIL. Which would be enough to certainly be competitive, but not enough to build a completely loaded top 5 championship roster.

This statement is hilarious 😂. So you basically think we'll add one newcomer this whole off-season?
I took it as, of all the people we get this year, those 5 will be the best of them (starters). Not that we only will bring in 1 person.

DGL reportedly portal bound. Isn't anyone in Div 1 mbb staying home?

1. This is a dynamic and rapidly changing and inflating system. Where you stand in the pecking order one day is almost certain not to be true the next, and exactly how deep the pockets go isn't known for sure even at one's own school, let alone really knowing about anybody else.

2. That being said I dunno man. KJ, Riley and Tomi will not have been cheap last year. Buying TSJ and CoHawk out of the draft the year before will not have been cheap either. We've flexed quite a bit of muscle in this space.
