I like how this board acts like Ace is a scrub.
I don't think people think he is a scrub, but he is also a guy who has been on pretty bad teams since he left without doing much to impact them. He shot much better this past year from three, but on fewer attempts than ever in his career. That lines up well with a role off the bench taking low volume, high quality threes.

That isn't a scrub, it's a role player which is what Ace is at this point. He struggled at the rim as a freshman and from watching quite a bit of him at LSU & ASU, that did not get better post-injury.

Mirkovic doubters: recalibrating?
What about that game would make you change your mind?

I still see a highly skilled big man with below average athleticism and quite frankly a poor vertical. He is the anti-Morez. Morez was a great athlete for a PF and not terribly skilled (at this point). It will be interesting to see how they differ in their performance.

I still think we're going to need to scheme up Mirkovic because he just doesn't have the quickness to do much on his own. I also will be curious to see how he rebounds. He has a very large frame, but he's going to be going up against guys that are significantly better leapers. We'll learn his bball IQ quickly, can he get things done without the athleticism against more athletic players night in and night out.

You're assuming we get Sarr and Coward? That would be quite a coup.
More so being hopeful than assuming lol. But I figure he’s the biggest wing target that could still be relatively affordable since he’s coming off a major injury. And he and Sarr’s styles don’t conflict.

I always make the half-joke that my parents became a whole lot smarter between the ages of 14 and 21. But kids also become a lot smarter and more aware as they mature as well.

He would be coming here to be a role player. If this is our big portal addition then it’s a let down

Miller: he made a mistake transferring from us. fully understand why fans were really disappointed. but when I think back on all the moronic moves I made as a young man, it's easy to let it go
Fair point. Though judging by some of the takes around here, it’s clear youthful misjudgment isn’t always confined to the young.

Anyone else a little confused for the first few minutes with Mirkovic wearing #8 and also Markovic wearing #6 (which also looked like an 8 to me)? I figured out Markovic was taller and had shorter hair after a while but the 6 really looked like an 8 on those dark jerseys haha

Anyway, watching the game... Mirkovich had 8 first quarter points and then they seemed to play Markovich instead for most of the 2nd half. He made a couple 3s but was mostly getting absolutely abused on D/glass by Boozer and ended the game with by far a team worst -19 in the +/- while Mirkovich ended at +2

I mean, after last year I don’t know how anyone could be against a legit “3 and D” guy. Not to mention he checks several boxes this board typically pines for- grit, tons of experience and he is an in-state player who is in his last go round with something to prove. And I’m just guessing that having that “Illinois” running across his chest one last time will mean just a little bit more for him than it will for most players or even for him the day he originally committed- and that’s saying something because I think it DID mean something to him then.

Yep- he’s ready to break out in years 9 and 10! Once you hit double digit years in college, the experience kicks in. Let’s bring back what I can only assume by now is Dr. Miller.

Been a crazy busy week … Apologies for the limited posts … Here’s the updates …

Ace Wolf … Fully expect him to be an Illini … Wants to win … Wants to do it back at home … Really, really solid role player …

Sarr … Meeting with him today … Number is going to be $2.5 million and Duke is very much involved, they aren’t exactly thrilled with how the Ament recruitment is going and don’t wanna miss on both …

Note that MJJ was +20 for Team USA in only 12:10 of playing time in the 2024 game. I wish that he had stayed at Illinois. Big mistake on his part.

Also assuming Jakstys gives us anything and one or both of the freshmen don't redshirt. Also assuming that Mirkovic is capable of being a Big Ten caliber starter or a player capable of playing more than 15 minutes.
That’s why I put them as the 11-13 guys on the roster. I don’t expect them to play much, if at all. And the way the roster stands, Mirkovic should start at the 4 and pretty sure that’s been the indication since he committed.
