We can add the length of the rotation to the never ending list of useless things to complain about. Florida just played 8 guys in the most important game of the entire season, and won, defeating the other team who played [checks notes] 8 players in their most important game of the year as well
Does anyone really complain about that?

Every team in the country cuts down to 7 or 8 guys come tournament time and only going deeper if it's because of injury or foul trouble.

I like Sarr a lot and I would love him paired with a veteran guy like Coward but if you gave my choice with no money being involved I would have a hard time taking him over Jamir Watkins simply because he's a 24 year old proven college contributor.
I get that but I like 6'8" or 8 with a 7ft wing span athlete tomout next to Boz and possibly Ty or Miller on D. We need thar to help out our bigs on D. Plus I think Sarr cutting with our skilled bigs would be tough on opposing wings.

Last year, three of the four most valuable players added to the roster arrived later in the recruiting season than today. That said, I think it is reasonable to wonder what the plan for this coming year's roster is.

Right now, we are looking at a team that will, with the addition of a young scorer (Saar) and with normal luck (no mono!), wind up a bit better than last year's team: say third in the B1G, participation in the league tournament semi-final or championship game (but likely not win), and get into the Sweet 16. An excellent year.

But to achieve the goals that Underwood himself repeatedly describes, several changes remain to be made I think. Addition of another major talent, in addition to Saar. Also, a backup point guard (with all that that entails, including an ability to score). And unfortunately, an accompanying departure or two from the current roster. (Which is very risky -- returner minutes are very, very valuable.)

Not too different from last year at this point, in other words.
But Miller cares about the jerseys on the opponents. That is worth at least 5 additional wins. I always forget that those kids that have a chip on their shoulder and want to stick it to the Big 10 typically spend half their career in Tempe. It's not a top 3 nationwide party school or anything.

You mean the way he started Ben over the first round draft pick while the first round draft pick had a 14 game stretch where he shot 29% from the field and 18% from 3 while provided nothing on D?

Here was Riley’s shooting stats (total and 3’s) starting with Arkansas on November 28 and ending with Nebraska on January 30:

2-9 (1-5)
4-12 (0-6)
2-4 (0-2)
1-9 (0-4)
1-8 (1-6)
2-5 (1-3)
1-3 (0-1)
2-11 (1-5)
3-7 (0-3)
2-5 (0-2)
7-17 (2-3)
0-2 (0-1)
2-9 (0-3)
6-16 (4-10)

You feel like he should’ve been playing more minutes during this stretch?
Yes the freshman with NBA ceiling who needed more time to get acclimated in his first year of college rather than the 4 year senior who had already reached his ceiling.

34% career 3pt shooter. Eh lol
43% last year which is more relavent. , At LSU he took an avg of 7 a game and they were poor shots and bombs. Miller will get good looks on this team surrounded by the twins that can also shoot he may not shoot 43% but I wouldn't bet against him being at 40 or better and possibly our best 3 pt shooter with these guys.

Okay, here we go again. What would you think about the following 14-player roster in the 25-26 season? Mid-pack in the Big Ten, or contending for the title? Just making the NCAA Tournament, or making it to the second weekend?

Kylan Boswell, Samage Teel, Jason Lee
Cedric Coward, Adam Miller, Keaton Wagler
Dame Sarr, Ty Rodgers, Jake Davis
David Mirkovic, Ben Humrichous, Jason Jakstys
Tomislav Ivisic, Zvonimir Ivisic

It's very similar to the first roster that I proposed in an earlier post. Except that I just had a feeling that Sarr would end up not signing with the Illini, and the thought that the Illini would not be able to afford to sign Cedric Coward in a bidding war. So, I subbed in Andrej Stojakovic and Kennard Davis Jr respectively. I wonder what dollar amount Coward will eventually get from a school for his transfer. And I wonder how that figure compares with how much Stojakovic will get. With how much K Davis will get. Coward was at Washington State this past season. It's rumored that Washington might be leading for his transfer. It could also be difficult to get Coward to leave the West Coast.

As an aside, I think people are misjudging how good Kennard Davis was this past season for SIU, how much better he could be in a system like that of Illinois, one in which he'd be surrounded with better, more athletic players.

No exactly. Adam was an outstanding defender for a freshman, but Damonte -- who went to the bench -- was significantly better. Adam could shoot, sort of. Damonte seemed unable to make shots. And so Adam started on a tremendous Illinois team. With the thought that he'd be back as a key component in the future. That didn't happen.
Damonte shot 54.7% from 3 that season…

Sure, he only shot 2-3 per game, but he stuck to his role.

We will be taller on defense, at minimum.
We were one of the taller teams this year and that didn't mean diddly squat. If we go into the season with Hamer at the helm, I will be skeptical until proven otherwise (and I won't trust any proof until it happens in March).

True...Until a guy or two gets banged up for a couple games and we hope the 9th or 10th guy is good enough to slide into the 7th or 8th role for a while. Depth is never a bad thing.
Except it's not free. Every dollar you spend on the 9th guy isn't spent towards a player who could be a starter. IMO spending on the 9th guy is raising the floor, while focusing spending on the top guys is raising the ceiling. I'd much rather spend on ceiling.

I didn't read the whole thing after seeing Coward and Sarr. Give me those two guys and life is good in Illini land.

On D this roster seems better:
Boz =Boz
Sarr> Riley
Miller or Ty > KJ
Mirk or Ty > Ben
BIG T = BIG T

Plus we are gonna add more options

That team is top 5 in Big Ten and Top 25 nationally. Probably round of 32.

We didn't have two 7 footers last year. We got dominated in a handful of games in the paint. Maryland comes to mind. The twins might not be all muscle, but 7'0" and 6'9" in the paint last year (when Morez and Tomi were in together - smaller when they weren't) vs. 7'2" and 7'0" should be a nice bump protecting the paint. Plus last year it was two 1st year post guys. So we'll not only have the height, but more maturity and experience. Last year we got dinged with so many fouls defensively down low (yes, some were bad calls), but that happens when you're shorter and a freshman. Think about. We can literally have a 7'0" center or 7'2" center who can both shoot the three on the court pretty much the entire game next year if we want to. That's dynamic on offense and defense!
