If adam miller is the only person they get this team will have trouble scoring. Miller is a very good role player but still a role player. 43% from three is good but 4 shots a game is pretty low volume. They need a playmaker. Sarr is the lynchpin unless they have another long wing out there somewhere. If they can get Sarr AND miller, they could be very good. The roster is going to have some construction issues. Boswell and Ty Rodgers are going to be kind of tough to have on the floor at the same time since neither is a great 3pt shooter (or they'll have to drastically alter their offense, which might be good anyway). The two Ivisics will also be difficult to have on the floor at the same time. Defensively, this could be a good team (Rodgers, Miller, Boswell can all defend, assuming they can all be on the floor together).

Miller's price has gone up from what I heard. Think the staff is debating on paying it (not matching but somewhere in the ballpark) or moving on. Still want to have money for two big additions, so can't overpay massively.
Nah... You either want to play for your state school or not.. Not in the business of getting into a bidding war for Miller. He's a fine player that would surely help us, but we are by no means in "we have to get this guy" mode.

It feels like every player has a stronger market than anyone thought. The money flowing in CBB is crazy!
The root of all evil. Hate that this is where we're at! When it becomes about getting the most money one loses sight (or at least takes their eye off the ball) of other more important things - loyalty, character, being a good teammate, etc. I know many are going to say....get what you can while you can, but I simply disagree.
I'm not against "a little money" for the players. A free education among other freebees is pretty good, then a little money on top makes for a heck of a college experience. Huge NIL figures and the portal are ruining the game.
Here's a thought. How about reserving the NIL money to give to the players after they graduate? For example, if you graduate from our university if you play a minimum number of years at our university we will give you $50k (doesn't have to be this amount - could be less could be more) to kick start your career. And for the record, $50k and no student loan debt would be awesome! I was making $20k/year, granted back in 2004, after graduating from the U of I. I worked my way up through the years and now live a good/financially comfortable life and that was starting from scratch and not making much money out of the gates the first few years. If you had given me $50k to start my career that would've been a game changer as far as buying a vehicle or a downpayment on your first home. Just an idea I haven't even thought through much yet, but the best players will go on to play overseas or in the NBA and will make their money. For those who aren't at that level if they stay and get their free degree they'll get a "bonus" upon graduation. This way we aren't making it all about money w/kids transfering left and right for the biggest bag. We get back to loyalty, continuity, 3-4 year players coming back year after year and quality education.
By the way, I hear 18-23 year olds are REALLY good with a lot of money!!! :cautious:
This way we are focusing on a good education and getting young people out into the workforce with a nice head start. I'm still here to cheer for my team, but I absolutely hate all this NIL and portal stuff. OK, I digress and will let people pick apart my idea (as I said, I haven't thought through it much, it just came to me so I threw it out there.) ILL

Also Loyaly last year: Bring back OA after he left!

and nobody bats an eye. I know not apples to apples, but similar principle.
I'd give a 19 year old kid some leeway...especially when Momma's are involved.

Let's not act like he left and went to a B1G rival...he went to LSU and Will Wade.
I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to play for Will.

Where do fans come up with this stuff?

Let the market be the market.

This market and the potential high costs for obviously flawed folks is just steering me further and further into the Bielema model of investing in relationships and paying to retain talent than heavily investing in more ready-made players in the portal that are only associated with your program based on a financial agreement.

the board is pretty bent out of shape this morning for what I’ve been told is a middling player…

The waiting game with euro with a price tag like Sarr makes all of this incredibly precarious. Cant just go gangbusters in the portal if Sarr’s price is gonna go up another 1M

This is exactly what's going on!
24 year old.
Starter on one of the top 5 Illini teams ever.
Good defender
Peoria Pipeline
Good athlete
43% from 3.
WANTS to come home and win.

I wouldn't be surprised if he started more games than not next year. Maybe he'll 'Ayo' dudes in practice and remind Brad of the way Illinois basketball acted 5 years ago 🤷‍♂️
If he WANTS to come home and win, he will. But as always, money will make the decision.

But Miller "never wanted to leave" and "bleeds O&B" though 😢

Where else will we find an undersized shooting guard with a career 38% FG and 34% 3FG stat line who people also pretend was a huge asset with his 39% FG/34% 3FG as a freshman?

No one is clamoring for Miller to return. How many times in the past 5 years have you heard "Golly, the program misses Adam Miller...". He sucked at Illinois. He sucked at LSU. He sucked at ASU. But but he was a top 40 high school recruit 5 years ago..... 🤣

The program is in a place where players the quality of Adam Miller should be getting offered a walk-on spot.

What's next? Checking to see if Curbelo has any remaining eligibility?

From everything our insiders have posted...it seems like we need to get close $$-wise. Not necessarily outright outbid everyone. But time will tell

There are certainly a lot of interesting examples to point back to in the past few years but I remember last year when we didn't get Storr the place melted down. When we lost Johnson, the board melted down and blamed Underwood.

Freshmen starter who shot 34% from 3 on an overall 1 seed. Then..."sucked". Bold move, Cotton.

Glad you're not in charge of the roster.

Its a new world with the portal. I have a hard time disliking anyone for leaving as long as they go on decent terms and out of conf. Thinking about my 19 year old self, I would be looking for the highest $, no doubt!
